The answer to that question is no, there was no song. He is just stretching his beak. Anyone that is familiar with Cactus Wrens know that when they are singing they barely open their beaks. They have a very unusual and amazing song. To me it is the sound of the desert. I took this photo of a Cactus Wren sitting on a Cholla cactus on the trail leading to Sabino canyon north of Tucson Arizona USA

Today's view of Salthenge includes two folding chairs to give it scale.

Q: Who created it?
A; Still unknown. I am betting on aliens, and its a secret signal
Q: Where are the footprints?
A: Further proof of aliens......this section of salt is rock hard and not like beach sand. Many areas of the lake has loose / soft salt that is fragile, but this area is sunbaked hard, like concrete.
A bigger problem is tracking dirt/sand on the salt and leaving those dirt footprints (I was extra careful)
Q: Where did the rocks come from?
A: Aliens or an area of rocks about 66 meters / 216 feet away
Q: How large is this?
A: Did my photo today help give it scale? Maybe I should let you know those folding chairs are 12.7cm /5 inches tall :-) No drone involved, just the mini chairs and my Sony a7iii :-)
Q: How long will it last?
A: Humans create things, and just as fast, they destroy things. It becomes much harder to take apart if it lasts a few months as the salt will act like concrete holding them in place.
Q: How big are the rocks?
A: The largest one is maybe 6 inches / 15cm. The entire circle is about 2 meters / 6.5 feet
Q: Roy wants to know why comments are always off
A: Roy, they are only off for you :-) No one else has this problem.

The question of the month is always : will there be leaves on the trees on May 1st or not. Three weeks ago we all thought that the answer was easy and there would be naked trees at the beginning of May. The warm end of April led to an explosion in nature and today we face a green paradise in our fields, gardens.
Monsoon, a glorious word. It is not an overstatement to say the entire west is on fire this year. It rained today, hard, soaking, drenching rain.. worth dancing in rain.

Spring is just around the corner and the overwintering group of swallowtails in chrysalides sure do know it. They began eclosing (hatching) in mid-February.
This is a Polydamas Swallowtail, also known as the goldrim. It very well could be one of the swallowtails I released. Although, it could be one that survived in the wild and has come home in search of a nice host plant, some nectar and a date with another goldrim. Either way, I am happy to see it.
This image was taken a few weeks ago while I was in the backyard with the camera. In my yard seeing goldrims and pipevines is a sure sign that spring is in the air. They are seasonal, unlike monarchs that are here year-round.
I will officially begin raising butterflies soon. Most likely the on first Saturday of April. That happens to be April 1st, this year. Does that make me an April Fool? He, hee... Don't answer that.

C'était une énorme surprise quand ma femme m'a prévenu que cet oiseau est venu se poser sur la bâche d'hivernage de la piscine pour y faire sa toilette. Il y est resté 11 minutes ce qui m'a permis de le photographier longuement, un moment magique. La plupart d'entre vous vont l'identifier facilement, pour les autres la réponse dans les jours à venir.
It was a huge surprise when I saw this bird land on the winter cover of the pool to wash up. It stayed there for 11 minutes, which allowed me to photograph it at length, a magical moment. Most of you will identify it easily, for others the answer in the following days.
Each full moon night something goes on the shrine to sacrifice.

On many a hike I've pondered (yes, aloud) why am I doing this? On most of those occasions there has been a payoff of some sort. Today was something different. When I neared the pinnacle of the trail to Silver Falls and was hit by a sudden chill in the otherwise oppressive heat of the dense forest that I'd been traversing I knew that I'd found the falls that I sought. The moment that I topped the hill into the clearing facing this marvel is difficult to explain. I picked up the camera two years ago and ever since have tried to convey the beauty around me and today I stumbled upon a place of indescribable, soul wrenching, heart surging, peace inspiring beauty like I've never seen. This photo can not convey the sound of the boulders being heaved, the pounding of the flow as it raced by, the sheer knee shaking euphoria that one gets from standing here and witnessing this force of nature. Everyone in the world should stand right here for ten minutes, if they did there would be no more strife.
