It is always a pleasure to be on the water on a whale-watching trip.
Transient Orcas, one of at least three distinct species of killer whales, travel in small, loosely organised pods. They are deadly hunters and eat other mammals. Circling like sharks, the pod have found a seal or some other animal. The blood is faintly visible on the water. One of the other whale-watching boats is well placed to witness the struggle.

Alpine Falls is on the Washington map but is seldom visited. It's located on the Tye river and accessed from a wide spot in the road. The climb down to the river is a bit steep and if it's flowing at it's "normal" Winter volume, you probably wouldn't want to stand right here. At least for very long!

This is the primary helipad site for the fire a few minutes after we landed. In the background some crew members are long-lining gear in on a lower pad. It's awfully picturesque.
