I was 'allowed' 3 shots...this was one of them!
I do have a few other options... but whenever I get a nice portrait of one of my kids, that's always the best pic of the day for me... it's so hard to be objective with my mommy goggles on ;)

Not allowing the dull grey white of Winter Days to depress me.I created this winter scene scene along with my camera to satisfy my love of COLOUR.
During lockdown I used the allowed hour for walks outside to explore my local area.
Fortunately there is a river only 15mins walk away and I've been hearing kingfishers along it for weeks.
This perch is a favourite spot for them as it overlooks a calm pool of water for fishing. I noticed as it had a load of poo splashed on the leaves below it!
So I left a camera buried in the foliage for a couple of days with a sensor to trigger it, and this was the result... :)
This is another photo of one of the Border Leicester sheep at our zoo. They are among my favourite animals there and I'm always pleased when they stop grazing for a moment and allow me to take a nice photo. :)
View of Owachomo Bridge in Utah's Natural Bridges National Monument (March 2013). This remote park has a nifty loop hike that allows you to visit three very photogenic natural bridges in one day.
Version 2:
The distinctive triangular shape of the Flatiron Building, designed by Chicago architect Daniel Burnham and built in 1902, allowed it to fill the wedge-shaped property located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway. The building was intended to serve as offices for the George A. Fuller Company, a major Chicago contracting firm. At 22 stories and 307 feet, the Flatiron was never the city’s tallest building, but always one of its most dramatic-looking, and its popularity with photographers and artists has made it an enduring symbol of New York for more than a century. www.history.com

A point of interest in this semi-basement space is that it is open to the air on the left hand side allowing for natural ventilation, and a view through to the adjacent landscape.
Rila Monastery, southwest Bulgaria, after sunset in autumn. They don't allow visitors to go up to the upper floors, which would have been a better POV, but oh well....
I'm uploading 3 versions, there wasn't much light later at night, but I'll upload a blue hour version some day, it wasn't so bad.

Hooded Merganser, upright. I enjoyed my morning last week watching their behavior and interaction. A little slower shutter allowed just a bit of wing blur and still kept the head sharp.

I have to get busy and write out my Christmas cards today so I'll catch up with you all a little later. Have a wonderful Monday and week everyone!
Okay, you've seen me, so go away already. Can't you see I'm hunting? You're scaring away my lunch, move along...
Thank YOU JESUS, for allowing me to find one so early this year. I think their adorable little owls. So I give credit where that credit is due, and it's not me and my ability to do anything. Yes really believe it was all the grace of God.
I was freezing in the cold winds searching for Sparrow Hawks, which I also love and with very little success I was packing it in, when for some reason I stopped to take in the view just before hitting the trail, when I happed to look down and to my left almost completely hidden in the grasses. There he stood looking up at me like I was about to step on him. How scary that must have been. Yep, it's all Jesus, every good thing is! ❤️🙏❤️
------------------------------ JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

On a drizzling grey afternoon this lady certainly lit up the street. I had to ask for a shot and she graciously allowed me to direct her into the middle of the street for the shot! She was quite concerned about me having my back to the oncoming traffic but I was anxious to not miss the photo opportunity. I took one more shot from closer range and then we had a little chat about where to park her car and that was it! A wonderful little brightness to my afternoon!
Detail of red zip wrapping around the suitcase. Beside the unusal form, I love the color.
Don't have the exact size, since the photo was taken trough a shop window, but less the the allowed 7.6 cm in length.
The Hollow Forest is a great place for pics. Have fun everyone, but don't forget the Templum! I'll be posting more pics from that pool soon.

There are many items created by people we know and others we don't here. It's fab. SPECIAL special thanks to Amellier Spitteler for allowing us to visit this pretty place.
Low tide at meols beach allows you to get up close to the many fishing boats and yachts. It is great during the summer because the sun sets in burbo bank the offshore wind farm.
The snow dozer pauses briefly at the Merritt crossing to allow a maintenance employee to climb down from the dozer cab and join a co-worker in the waiting hi-rail truck. A quick briefing is had between crews before the work train will get underway once again and continue plowing eastward while the hi-rail will split, probably driving back across the pass to the west side.

The San Juan Bautista Indian Church in San Juan Chamula does not look great from the outside, but it's amazing inside (unfortunately photos are not allowed inside).
There is no bench. Instead, pine leaves dot the entire floor of the church. Thousands of candles are lit, and complete Indian families pray fervently on the floor.
The walls are dotted with statues of saints.
There is no priest, the bishop has the right to enter the church only once a year, for baptisms.
I felt inside this church an incredible mysticism and fervor!

I am pretty excited with my first narrowband image. Narrowbanding allows me to do DSO imaging from my light polluted suburban Bortle 6 backyard and even if the moon is in the sky.
Filters with a tiny bandpass of only 4,5 nm around the wavelengths of singly ionized sulfur (Sll), ionized hydrogen (H-alpha) and doubly ionized oxigen (Olll) are used with a monochrome astro camera to capture 3 different images that can be combined into a color image.
There is a catch though: SII and H-alpha are in the red spectrum, while Olll is teal. This makes it hard to produce an image with colors like the human eye would see.
The most common solution is to not even try to. That's what NASA did with the famous "Pillars of Creation" image from the Hubble Space Telescope. They assigned Sll to the red, H-alpha to the green and Olll to the blue channel. This is called the Hubble palette, a false color image that shows the distribution of the different gases.
My image shows the normally red Rosette nebula in the Hubble palette.
Here some additional facts from Wikipedia: The Rosette Nebula is a large spherical HII region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter. The cluster and nebula lie at a distance of some 5,000 light-years and measure roughly 130 light years in diameter. The radiation from the young stars excites the atoms in the nebula, causing them to emit radiation themselves producing the emission nebula we see. The mass of the nebula is estimated to be around 10,000 solar masses.

An unusually late CSXT/Pan Am train LA-2 (local freight from Lawrence) that normally comes down to Boston under the cover of darkness surprised me when they showed up right in the midst of the morning rush hour as I was getting off work. The Terminal dispatcher made quick work of them allowing them to come down off tbe New Hampshire Route High Line up to the front ladder and then make their reverse move back east toward Reading Junction and over on to the Eastern Route to clear up in the Coke Works at Everett Junction.
Here are the pair of B40-8s (MEC 5976 and 5958) shoving 22 cara over the hump of Draw 7 bridge crossing the Mystic River at about MP 2.2 on the MBTA/Keolis Eastern Route mainline. All of the new development in the background,at what is now known as Assembly Square, sits in the middle of what was once Boston and Maine Yard 21 that as late as the early 1980s was bustling with cars and rated its own switcher. Less than four decades on and you'd never know it existed....
