The sky was on fire and I was allowed to witness - a truly spectacular show.

It took so long that I had time to take a series of portrait shots. I later merged them into a panorama in GIMP.

I wish a great weekend to everyone.

The shell of the common Garden snail, Cornu aspersum, contains pigment-containing cells known as chromatophores. A physiological colour change can be initiated in these cells to allow the animal to change its colour to match its surroundings and so provide protective camouflage. The mechanism is similar to that found in cephalopods such as cuttlefish and octopus, although the snail is much slower to produce the colour change than these other molluscs.

Sorry, I wanted to post this on April 1 but that would have missed the theme.

No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

When you are in Lauterbrunnen, another "essential" excursion is "Jungfraujoch Top of Europe". To do this, you have to take two trains: from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg, then from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch.

When you get off the train, you have fallen straight into winter. The snow is still intact even in mid-August. The spectacle is once again awe-inspiring. Several hikes are available to you. But personally, my knees did not allow me to walk on the snow :( What a regret!: (((

Hard to image that using a tripod to take a photo of this fountain would be a problem, but yes it was... I was told I could not use it by a security gaurd because it was on private property. Oh well... I just walked out into the street (no traffic whatsoever) and took the photo from there!

After a short pause, I find my courage and allow my mind to venture further within this vision like some drunken bee. Or am I floating about like a ghost? A whisper on the breeze catches my ear. A voice? Focusing on the ledge of a single petal, I find an anchor. I must catch my bearings. Why is my vision fogged? For some odd reason, the smell is becoming a bit more pleasant. My stomach is no longer hurling in knots. Ahead of me, the warm glow feels quite inviting. From out of the light, loom long giant arms. As I peer closer they appear to beckon me forward? The effect of the breeze or something else? "Come to me..." Now, I am hearing voices. It must have been the wind. I must move forward.

Continuing the adventure into nature. I will be catching up this weekend and look forward to being back. Happy Friday my Flickr friends!

I bought this bee themed water jug from a craft potter called Berber Dister based in the idyllic village of Cromarty on the Black Isle just north of Inverness. The artist had made her mark on the base and I'm hoping that one day it will rival Clarise Cliff's work for value. We are allow dreams.

Have a great Saturday SOS friends.

As well as trees and leaves and many other things...a lake allows that perspective....

I can't stop allowing myself to go back to Smithville to capture this tree. I love to photograph it in all the seasons and one important thing I have learned is to never take it for granted. I had a very special tree in the Smithville Lake area that was taken down without notice and I regret not photographing it more. I guess this can apply to many things in life (family, friends, etc). So here I am, early in the morning mesmerized by the shape of the extended branches along the country fence line and the glow of the sky. I ended up blurring out the grass to give the sole focus on the this magnificent living specimen. I am just awed by the shapes here as if it were drawn on the page.

☄ Michel Pagliaro at the 2019 Quebec National Day (St-Jean-Baptiste). Pag, as he is called here is the most famous rock musician of Quebec, a real legend. He’s been on the scene for many, many years and believe me, he stills rock the crowd hard ... with the help of excellent musicians of course. So I allowed myself a small photo montage by mixing a portrait of the artist with the Fireworks.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is ostrich

The cardinals were already visiting when I placed peanuts at the palm stump. Normally they wait for me to go on about my business before heading over to partake in a peanut treat. This guy surprised and delighted me. I watched as he started working his way toward the stump. I was only about ten feet away when he decided to come on down and get a peanut. In this image I think he looks like he is admiring the bounty before choosing just the right nut. He stayed long enough to eat two peanuts before carrying a third one to a branch in oak tree one. I felt very privileged to be allowed to point the camera in his direction and take a couple of shots while standing so close.

I hope everyone has a delightful weekend, happy snapping.

The robin is one of the most familiar birds of the UK, regularly visiting gardens. Robins are also common in parks, scrub and woodland, making their presence known with a loud, territorial song. They sing from prominent perches right through the winter, when both males and females hold territories; indeed, they are fiercely territorial, driving off intruders and even fighting. During the breeding season, the female is allowed into the male's territory where she sets up a nest of dead leaves, moss and hair. Nests often crop up in the oddest of places, such as plant pots, old wellies and shelves, but Ivy and other shrubs are their natural choice. Robins have been associated with Christmas ever since Victorian times; Victorian postmen, who were known as 'Robin Red-breasts' because of their red waistcoats, are thought to be the inspiration for so many robins appearing on our Christmas cards. Whether it's the case or not, robins certainly make themselves known in winter with their loud, aggressive song!

If we allow ourselves to stay amazed and astounded at the vibrant instants of every day and do not feel ashamed of admitting to being speechless or dumbfounded sometimes... we can uncover unsuspected sparkling gems hidden all around us..

St. John the Baptist's Church (15th ct.) in Ribčev Laz on Lake Bohinj, Slovenia

Here, just by chance, we're caught, in the shade

staring, surprised, into eyes of the past

while watching the ducks as they circle the pond

It seems they are hands on a clock sweeping time

where silence is gentler,... because now we are friends

Today, on this bench, lost men will linger,

while waiting for nothing, and no place to go

Once we had claimed this 'our' place to hold hands,

planning a future that never began

Children we were with the world at command

I'm glad we aren't talking in circles, .. like then

Other children are playing in the rust afternoon,

zippered up tight, against winter wind

Talking of children..you tell me there's two

You show me a photo,…then, I share a few

I am all out of bread, as the sun starts to fade

taking away all the stains of the day

East of the bandstand shadows grow long,

falling in corners like memories do

We've learned to know twilight can be bittersweet

And taste what dim recall has only allowed

Goodbyes are said, and you then, kiss my cheek, ..

then you turn and you wave, as you are crossing the street

Left wondering now, where those lost men will go,

it worries my brow, what lost men will eat

A shadow of you, is still left in the park, …

of us holding hands, as it starts to get dark

I leave a few dollars here, on our bench

Checking my watch,… I will leave no regrets.

Old fishing boat on the shingle bank at Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England.

A scene from the many tracks that cross Hillock Wood, Buckinghamshire. The mist certainly helped soften the mood and allows the shapes of the trees to stand out.

The band of clouds moving in added to the mystic along Oxbow Bend. Was great being here with no one else at this time, allowing it easy to move along the riverbank.

After a week with me Timmy is allowed for the first time

on the terrace secured with a cat net. The cat net is planned for about 4 weeks.

Update: 2 years later the cat net ist still there - I close the door to the freedom around midnight, but Timmy is allwed to be on the terrace every time, and he enjoys that.

Update: in 2022 the cat net was finally removed :-)

The shafts are the lifelines of a mine because they only can be reached trought perpendicular entrances. This allows materials and miners to be brought down an the mined materials to be brought up.

The transport in the shafts is done with giant elevator machines.

What we see is the giant elevator machine of the coalmine of Winterslag (Belgium), equipped with 2 Direct Current motors of 10.000 Volt each and it raised or lowered the lift cages at a speed from 72 km per hour until a depth of 750 meters.

This crafty lady has been in operation from 1916 to 1988 and has raised a total of 66.593.000 tons of coal from below the mine.

The big wheel in the middle is the so called "Koepe disc" around which an arm thick steel cable, weighing 100 tons, was wound half a turn. The lift cages were attached at both ends of this cable.

The machine operator had a very responsible task and no computers were available: it was purely manual and was done with hands, eyes and ears.

The dashboard stands in front of the machine and consists of bells with which signals were passed from below, volt and ammeters and a level gauge which shows the movement of the lift cages and its speed in the shaft.

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE!

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so they might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH! Because JESUS LOVES YOU! ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

A kind neighbor called me over to his home last evening, alerting me to this lovely owl that was peeking out of one of his backyard evergreen trees.

The owl allowed me to spend 15 minutes with it while I fired off many good captures. It never moved and showed no signs of agitation, and I kept a quiet and respectful distance across the yard.

This seems to be an adult brown morph (Northern). There are also grey and red morphs in this species.

Screech owls are very small and their body size range from 6 to 10 inches in length. Proportionally, their heads are quite large and, since they have such short necks, that head size seems even larger :)

The light was poor and quickly fading. Fortunately I had the house to lean against for a bit of stability as I handheld my heavy gear. I captured this image at 1/5 sec. shutter speed, though it took many attempts to pull this off :)

This experience was a real thrill for me since I have never photographed a wild owl in the 12 years that I have been doing nature photography.

Thank you, kind neighbor, for your thoughtful invite into your backyard for this fulfilling experience!

The Bayon is a richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the center of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman's death, it was modified and augmented by later Hindu and Theravada Buddhist kings in accordance with their own religious preferences.

The Bayon's most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and smiling stone faces on the many towers which jut out from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. The temple has two sets of bas-reliefs, which present a combination of mythological, historical, and mundane scenes. The main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (the JSA) has described the temple as "the most striking expression of the baroque style" of Khmer architecture, as contrasted with the classical style of Angkor Wat. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayon)

What a thrill it was to float, wade, and cast to big Brown and Rainbow Trout in this beautiful river. There were a lot of fish in the river at this time, so the catching was easy.
