A photo from a hike up to Lake Agnes and the Big Beehive yesterday with my family. The water was calm, the air was chilled, and the chipmunks were already out begging for/stealing food.

Another Lake visitied on our trip was Lake Agnes which is a mile hike or so above the (very) popular Lake Louise.
I captured the two images for this Vertorama at Lake Agnes… after huffing and puffing my way up along the 3.5km hiking trail from Lake Louise.
The Lake Agnes Teahouse hike is one of the most popular hikes in the Lake Louise area. Although the climbing is reasonably moderate, the gain in elevation is 387 meters (about 130 flights of stairs) and there are a few fairly steep sections.
Lake Agnes was named in honour of Lady Agnes Macdonald, second wife of Canada 's first prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Lady Agnes visited the small lake in 1886, and her words, "This is lovely!" still ring true today. Hikers are treated to a mixture of trail that begins in old-growth forest of spruce and fir before leading to an open view of the waters below (the magical blue of glacier-fed Lake Louise ). Further up the trail, slightly less than one kilometre from the teahouse, Mirror Lake appears offering a nice view and a chance to rest. The "Beehive" looms above, and the waterfall from Lake Agnes beckons a photograph. The trail continues up the right side of the waterfall, and leads to the rustic teahouse. The teahouse serves hundreds of different kinds of teas, and some basic sweets and sandwiches. The apple crumble is delicious!
