The equestrian statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy stands on the Danube terrace, in a prominent position, high above Budapest. The Neo-Baroque statue was made by sculptor József Róna for the town of Zenta but the town could not afford its price. The monument was bought in 1900 as a temporary solution until the planned equestrian statue of King Franz Joseph was completed. This never happened so Prince Eugen remained on his plinth. This plinth is decorated by two bronze reliefs, showing the capture of the earth-works in Zenta and the decisive cavalry charge in the famous battle in 1697.

Shot at night, very well lit from below, the oxidation patterns of the bronze statue are quite visible and stark and some of the highlights from the marble are washed out. I mistakenly scanned this at 100Mpix+ and the detail that Scala offers in this image is incredible. Even the Bronze relief on the side of the base is faithfully rendered. This was a long exposure (on the order of 8-10 minutes) probably at f22, the softness at the base of the statue was due to people walking in and out of the scene as the entire square was very crowded. #sculpture

We spotted it from the air when my wife and I arrived in Budapest at midnight and we couldn't figure out what it was. It stood out amongst all the rest of the familiar buildings but it looked bigger (and bluer) than the St. Stephan's Basilica that was near to it. Several evenings later we took a stroll to Erzsebet square and there it was! The "Budapest Eye" Ferris Wheel, the Largest mobile ferris wheel in Europe at 60 meters tall.

So I thought; Well, if I'm going to do the cliche and overdone 'blurred ferris wheel' shot, I'm going to put the Danubius Fountain, (symbolizing Hungary's rivers, built in 1880) in the foreground! This Exposure was long enough to get some shadow detail from the fountain (of which was within the luminance range of my spot-meter). I have another exposure that has the fountain in silhouette.

Opened to the public in AD 80, the Colosseum remained in service for 450 years.

The Szabadság híd (in English: Liberty Bridge or Freedom Bridge) in Budapest, Hungary, connects Buda and Pest across the River Danube. It is the third southernmost public road bridge in Budapest, located at the southern end of the City Centre. It was originally named Ferenc József híd (Franz Joseph Bridge).

At its two ends are:

- Gellért tér (at the foot of Gellért Hill, with the Gellért Spa and Hotel Gellért) and

- Fővám tér (with the Great Market Hall and the nearby Budapest University of Economics).

The bridge was built between 1894 and 1896 to the plans of János Feketeházy. Although radically different in structure, the bridge imitates the general outline of a chain-type bridge, which was considered an aesthetically preferable form at the time of construction. The bridge was opened in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph; the last silver rivet on the Pest abutment was inserted into the iron structure by the Emperor himself, and the bridge was originally named after him.

It is 333.6 m in length and 20.1 m in width. The top of the four masts are decorated with large bronze statues of the Turul, a falcon-like bird, prominent in ancient Hungarian mythology.

Many trams used to cross the twin-road bridge, which was also heavily burdened with car traffic, and there is an initiative to convert it to a pedestrian-only crossing once the fourth underground metro line is completed in Budapest in the coming decade.
