I was driving near Hanksville, Utah when this arresting scene caught my eye. A cottonwood in full autumn regalia stands out starkly against a backdrop of red rock, with a dark, threatening sky overhead. It made for a gorgeous contrast.
Is it me against myself?
I feel like someone else
'Cause I can't find my way back home
And I don't wanna do it alone
Is it me against myself
And everybody else?
'Cause I can't fix this on my own
I don't wanna do it alone
Had a talk with myself
Try to smile and wish me well
Feel like I'm a broken shell
Hard to lie when you're overwhelmed
It still hurts when you're already numb
Every walk becomes a run
It's gettin' hard to hold on
When you come undone
'Cause lately everything around keeps changing
I've been thinking that maybe
Maybe I'm to blame
Maybe we're both the same
Is it me against myself?
I feel like someone else
'Cause I can't find my way back home
And I don't wanna do it alone
Is it me against myself
And everybody else?
'Cause I can't fix this on my own
And I don't wanna do it alone
No, I don't wanna do it alone
(Alone, alone)
It's hard to look back
When you have to face the facts
That the person that I was
Isn't coming back
'Cause lately everything around keeps changing
I've been thinking that maybe
Maybe I'm to blame
Maybe we're both the same (both the same)

Me Against Myself - Wage War
A big thank you to Abigail Hunter for allowing me to use her private SIM and forest for the shoot as well as for the idea as my original idea for this shoot was far different.
I'm a little late jumpin' on the wagon here, but I did make it! lol In case you're living under a rock and haven't heard what's going on here's a link .
Ezekiel 5:17 “I’ll send famine and wild beasts against you that will rob you of your children. Pestilence and bloodshed will devastate you when I declare war on you. I, the LORD, have spoken.”

I've probably shot Godrevy Lighthouse dozens of times, but never from this vantage point. It was nice to spend some time taking in the view of the waves crashing against the rocks from a slightly different angle.
This shot is an exposure blend of four shots (taken moments apart), combined to show more wave action in one image.

Reeds struggle against the wind while the water gets choppy at Steepbank Wilderness Resort North of Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada.
I love the way the Kodachrome captured the colours of this scene. So I have a few variations of it to share. I couldn't choose just my favourite.
A forest fire was threatening the resort during my stay at Steepbank Lake. We were on alert to evacuate via helicopter, should the need arise. We were not evacuated, but we did need to drive around the fire on our way home. It ended up that the forest all around the lodge did burn, but the lodge was saved.
Check out an album containing more of my photos shot in 2002.

▶"Strelitzia reginae — commonly known as the crane flower, bird of paradise, or isigude (in Nguni)— is an evergreen species of flowering plant, growing 6.5 feet tall (2 m), native to South Africa in the Cape Provinces and KwaZulu-Natal. The common names reference the open flower’s resemblance to the head and beak of a colourful exotic bird.
Strelitzia reginae is very popular as an ornamental plant for its dramatic flowers. It was first introduced to Britain in 1773, when it was grown at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Since then, it has been widely introduced around the world, including the Americas and Australia, growing well in any area that is sunny and warm. In the United States, Florida and California are the main areas of cultivation."

▶ Photographer's notes:
☞ The color of the church's outside stucco wall is actually ecru. Early morning shadow induced the blue tint.

Cortaderia selloana, commonly known as pampas grass, is a flowering plant native to southern South America, including the Pampas region after which it is named. There are around 25 species in the genus Cortaderia.
It is a tall grass, growing in dense tussocks that can reach a height of 3m. The leaves are long and slender, with very sharp edges. The leaves are usually bluish-green, but can be silvery grey. The flowers are produced in a dense white panicle 20–40 cm long on a 2–3 m tall stem.
