This image is a composite. It was constructed in Affinity Photo.
The process of building it from a good photo taken in poor conditions is described in a video that can be seen at
The video is a workflow demonstration - it is not good enough to be called a tutorial.
Outdoor activities can often be difficult to photograph. My pastime is sailing, and I now have a motorboat. It is surprisingly difficult to get images of your own boat at sea. So you have to use what you can beg, borrow, or steal.
The video is about using a photo taken by a friend, taken from a moving platform(another boat) under less than ideal weather conditions. We take the image and transform it so it can be used in an entirely different context.
I have used three techniques described in official Serif Affinity videos by James Ritson. They are
"Bringing Out Water Detail" vimeo.com/202899215
"HDR from one exposure" www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar6CZvfyFvk&feature=youtu.be
"Making Images Pop" vimeo.com/178575803
The first part of the video deals with enhancing the basic image, including two different applications of tone mapping.
The second part deals with four different approaches to selection, to deal with different aspects of the image and how to combine them.
I have not seen the use of the pen tool to create fine detail precise selections before, but maybe I did not look far enough. So far as I know, it is a first.
The same problems apply to a lot of outdoor activities including windsurfing, climbing, motocross, horse riding. Wherever there is equipment, wild background, fine details (such as reins or ropes) then complex selection may be needed so you can blag an exciting picture.
This striking Vivid installation illustrates the complexity and connectivity of the human brain. It's the creation of industrial design firm Amigo and Amigo and technology company S1T2, and explores the effects of Alzheimer's disease on electrochemical activity in the brain (not to mention the camera's colour sensors).
Touching the sculpture triggers a colour response. Purple light represents the emergence of Alzheimer’s disease. When the purple path reaches a neuron, it disconnects, signifying that memories will be lost.
For the technically minded, "Affinity" features Onled LED's lighting and 19 Intel Galileo boards in an interactive display using over 56 colours, 114 capacitive sensors and 4200 meters of LED strip lighting. There are 70 balls each with six sensors, and about 48 arms.
I love the beach at low tide. There are lots of tidal pools and things to see.
This High Dynamic Range 360° panorama was tone-mapped from three bracketed 360° photographs with Photomatix, straightened with PTGUI Pro, processed with Color Efex, and touched up in Affinity Photo and Aperture.
Original size: 7000 × 3500 (24.5 MP; 131.43 MB).

Affinity diagramming is used to sort large amounts of data into logical groups. Existing items and/or new items identified by individuals are written on sticky notes which are sorted into categories as a workshop activity. Affinity diagramming can be used to:
* analyse findings from field studies
* identify and group user functions as part of design
* analyse findings from a usability evaluation

I think it looked kind of neat seeing almost the same form in the sky as in the water. A little bothered about the horizon not being straight. But what the hell :D
The Shiba Inu is an agile dog that copes well with mountainous terrain, its original habitat in Japan, were it was used to hunt small game. They typically do not like water (or have an aversion to it). Our dog, Misha, is a purebred and has many Shiba characteristics, but fear of the water is not one of them. Here she can be seen hanging over the gunnel sniffing our wake. She has been in the canoe several times and has never attempted to jump ship.
And your hand will stay in mine for a long time, it's a promise

Affinity developed a prototype mixte for the shorties in the house. There's some kinks to be ironed out but it is (possibly?) going into production at some undetermined point. In which case I totally want one.
To my utter samazement, I find that I have not uploaded this image to flickr.
It was used as the source for the pencil sketch at

Affinity Series, pattern by Jean Power from Beadwork Feb/Mar 2012. It made from Miyuki seed beads and Chinese rondelle. Just be careful when you use Chinese crystals, make sure you have enough of them before starting a project. My new stock of these same rondelles got slightly different shade of blue. Since I don't have enough rondelle, I was forced to use the new stock. But it's just one row on this bangle, nobody will notice it (but I know. lol)
I have taken the dust cover off Affinity Designer again and used some textures and vectorised art from Design Cuts to refresh my memory :)
