I was really drawn to this thing, candy for my cones :)

#highlightcarnival

tl;dr - tell me what inspires you, okay?

I've recently had several conversations with photographers about inspiration and the lack of it, especially now with all the fascism and nonsense going on.

And I'm wondering if I can even help apart from being a sounding board.

I think a lot anxiety over inspiration is that we expect inspiration to just be there when we want it. By definition, that's just not how it works. I think we're pressured to produce and share far more than we should be. And because of that, we're not okay with taking breaks.

It gets so bad that if we lack inspiration for longer than we want, we start thinking things like "I should just quit photography" (whatever that actually means).

Also, so much of the inspirational advice is either worthless and commodified or it's about other art forms (writing, painting, etc). Photography is different. Unless you are working in a studio attached to your house, photography is one part inspiration and another part opportunity/luck/privilege (and a bunch of other parts of other stuff).

I've been inspired (heh) to write more about this, so if you've gotten this far, comment a bit on how you are inspired, photographically speaking.

A special show for one under the cover of the ancient woodland. Like the Can-can dance over there in Paris...ooh la la!

Here i am combining two technics for more details. This a panorama of three stacks with 29 pictures each. The result has 43 megapixel instead of 20. I cropped it to 34 mp. Shown here with about 9 mp. The subject is Crepidotus spec.

At Repondek Railroad Company's Yankeetown dock facility, they still operate two of the three Yankeetown Dock Co. SD38-2s.

Built in November of 1972 to replace a small fleet of aging Fairbanks-Morse locomotives hauling coal trains on a built-for- purpose, 20-mile line in Southwestern Indiana, they have never strayed. Both 20 and 21 are used mostly for moving cars around the yard or dumper.

Even in 2017, when this was taken, RRC 21 still wears it's YDC paint from the late 80's. Looking closely, the picture shown by the employee is of YDC 1976 (YDC 21) wearing a bicentennial livery in 1976. Both it and 20 (a corner of which can be seen) have each worn at least three paint schemes just for Yankeetown Dock alone.

I have an affinity for coal mine locomotives and have collected slides and researched the lineage of many that once operated in the Midwest. I even bought a pair of the Scale Trains SD38-2s they had painted for Yankeetown Dock Co.

playing around in affinity design again, I need more practice.

Last peach off the tree. Didn't have many this year but this one was good. Focus stack with some light texture.

A view along the track we had just been along, taken on the return from a walk this morning,

I thought I would try the Affinity Photo software for which I took out a free trial a few weeks ago

This result is somewhat over processed. I guess I shall stick with Lightroom for now

Trying out textures in Affinity. I think this has too much impasto.

The island of Versailles is an artificial island of 1.7 hectares, created in 1831 and originally occupied by tanners and shipwrights, was transformed into a Japanese garden from 1983. The composition of the rock gardens and waterfalls are structured around 3 buildings inspired by traditional Japanese housing. Among them, the Maison de l'Erdre, surrounded by a Zen garden, serves as a setting for exhibitions devoted to the river and its aquatic environment. Located in the heart of the island, the Maison de l'Erdre is inspired by a Japanese tea pavilion in which the master of the house receives his guests: The design is inspired by the achievements of Japanese architects and recreates a natural landscape . Maple trees and Scots pines cut into cloud trees structure the garden. The bamboo beds recreate an Asian atmosphere. Azaleas, rhododendrons, cherry trees and cherry trees herald spring with their flowering, echoing what nature expresses in Japan. The Erdre house, designed as a tea pavilion, houses aquariums. The island of Versailles, located on the Erdre in Nantes, is an artificial island that was made with earthworks and dredging materials during the digging of the Nantes-Brest canal. The landscape recreated and structured by rockeries, waterfalls and ponds is richly planted with exotic plants such as bamboos, bald cypresses, rhododendrons, camellias and Japanese cherry trees.
