ANCIENNE BASE MILITAIRE À ST-ADOLPHE D’HOWARD
La base militaire canadienne du Lac-St-Denis fut en opération des années 1950 aux années 1980. Elle était situé à Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, dans les Laurentides, au Québec, à une heure au nord-ouest de Montréal. Elle avait pour fonction de surveiller l'espace aérien du sud-ouest du Québec et du Nord-Est de l'Ontario. Construite dans la foulé des constructions anti-communiste de la guerre froide, la base militaire du Lac-St-Denis était en étroite collaboration avec la Base Aérienne de la Macaza dans les Hautes-Laurentides.

Celle de Saint-Adolphe-d'Howard, observait l'espace aérien, et la base de la Macaza devait intervenir à l'aide des chasseurs Canadiens. Plus de 1000 personnes y travaillaient. .

Ce fut un grand moteur économique de la région. Sur le village militaire, on y trouvait des maisons de soldats, une hôpital, une épicerie, une salle de quilles ainsi qu'une salle de cinéma, à l'usage exclusive des membres des forces canadienne. Vers la fin de la guerre froide, vu l'amélioration technologique, NORAD et le gouvernement du Canada décidèrent donc de fermer cette base militaire, ce qui entraîna une certaine dégradation du secteur. Maintenant, le village pour les militaires est un lotissement résidentielle, et c'est à cet endroit que loge le Camp musical des Laurentides. .
Du radar et du centre d'analyse, il reste qu'une armature en béton, le tout avait été acheté afin d'un produire un spectacle équestre qui ne remporta pas le succès escompté. Ce site est à l'abandon depuis 2005.

Dit opbrengsthuis in eclectische stijl staat op de hoek van de Adolphe Maxlaan en de Bruidsstraat in Brussel. Het hoekgebouw werd in 1875 gerealiseerd door Adolphe Vanderheggen. In 1994 werd het gebouw beschermd als monument.

Notes: Authorization to reproduce two paintings "Waiting" and "Formerly" for the 1884 salon. Adolphe Block (1829 - 1918) was a studio photographer and from 1863, a publisher of stereoscopic views that he signed with the letters B.K. In 1868, he succeeded Segoffin then took over the collections of François Benjamin Lamiche and Louis Augé. In 1876, he bought the holdings of Jean Andrieu then that of Jules Marinier. He ceased activity in 1915

William-Adolphe Bouguereau
This magnificent portrait has been judged by a number of top experts and master artists, to be one of the greatest portrait heads ever painted ... by any artist ... ever.
Gabriel Cot was the daughter of Bouguereau’s most famous student, Pierre August Cot. Bouguereau was planning to use her for one of his major paintings, and so he started this as a study for that painting, but, as he worked, he was so captivated by Gabriel’s beauty, including her intense inner beauty, that he finished it as one of his only un-commissioned portraits.
I know of no other work that better exemplifies how this master captured the subtle nuances of personality and mood.

The Legion of Honor (formerly known as the The California Palace of the Legion of Honor) is a part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The name is used both for the museum collection and for the building in which it is housed.
The building is a full-scale replica of the French Pavilion at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition, which in turn was a three-quarter-scale version of the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur also known as the Hôtel de Salm in Paris by George Applegarth and H. Guillaume. At the close of the exposition, which was located just a few miles away, the French government granted Spreckels permission to construct a permanent replica of the French Pavilion, but World War I delayed the groundbreaking until 1921.

EROS was the mischievous god of love, a minion and constant companion of the goddess Aphrodite.
The poet Hesiod first represents him as a cosmic who emerged self-born at the beginning of time to spur procreation. The same poet later describes two love-gods, Eros and Himeros (Desire), accompanying Aphrodite at her birth from the sea-foam. Some classical authors interpreted this to mean they were born of the goddess at her birth, or alongside her in the sea-foam. The scene was particular popular in art, where the pair flutter around the goddess seated in her floating conch-shell.
Eventually Eros was multiplied by ancient poets and artists into a host of Erotes or Cupids, as they are commonly called in English. The one Eros, however, remained distinct in myth. It was he who lighted the flame of love in the hearts of the gods and men, armed either with a bow and arrows or else a flaming torch. He was also the object of cult. Eros was often portrayed as a child, the disobedient, but fiercely loyal, son of Aphrodite.
In ancient vase painting Eros is depicted as either a handsome youth or as a child. His attributes were varied: from the usual bow and arrows, to the gifts of a lover--a hare, a sash, or a flower. Sculptors preferred the image of the bow-armed boy, whereas mosaic artists favored the figure of a winged putto (plump baby).

Notes: Humbert de Molard, freed from financial concerns by the wealth of his landholdings in Normandy and perhaps missing the activity of Paris as he settled in the provincial town of Lagny, took up photography in 1843, just four years after its invention. A clever chemist and skilled craftsman, he quickly mastered the new medium of daguerreotypy and experimented with paper photography by the late 1840s.
Clearly attempting to create in photography the type of genre scene he admired in seventeenth-century Dutch painting and its early nineteenth-century French revival, the wealthy baron and gentleman farmer Humbert de Molard posed his caretaker Louis Dodier (standing in elegant contrapposto, wearing wooden clogs) and other workers in a tableau of rural activity at his château at Argentelle, in Normandy. Fresco of the baptism of Clovis (Adolphe Roger, c. 1832-1840) in the baptistery of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Paris, France.
Clovis was a Frankish king of the 5th century who converted to Christianity after his victory against the Alamans in the battle of Tolbiac (Zülpich). This depiction shows his baptism by archbishop Remigius of Reims. It also shows his wife Clotilde, who according to the Decem Libri Historiarum of Gregory of Tours, played a vital role in the conversion of her husband.
The fresco is one of four baptism scenes, the other depicting Constantine the Great as well as the baptism of an Ethiopian and a Peruvian. In this 19th century context, the baptism of Clovis symbolises not only the Christianisation of the Frankish kings, but the imagined foundation of a christian French nation.
