Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, or TJ, is the nation’s top-ranked public high school. Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) recent changes to TJ’s admissions process specifically aim to reduce the number of Asian-American children—and only Asian-American children—who can attend TJ. The school district’s race-based admissions scheme garnered nationwide interest and strong opposition from the Coalition for TJ, a group of over 5,000 parents, students, alumni, staff, and community members who advocate for school diversity and excellence through race-blind, merit-based admissions. Represented by PLF in federal court, the Coalition is challenging FCPS’ race-based admissions scheme as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment.

by false propaganda. This intake of 2008 is an incontrovertible 18% increase in seats over that of 2006 th at cannot betaken back or altered .

by the university in any future. Fresh lists are still being brought out, and we must do the utmost to ensure that all seats are duly filled. .

However. the misplaced debate over a non-existent 'seat-cut' is a motivated smokescreen that is deliberately deflecting from the real problem at hand: the fraudulent criterion behind non-fulfilment of OBC quota-an issue on which the ped'dlers oflie of "seat-cut" are completely silent. This matter calls for vig1lant monitoring and sc:u~iny: an~ the JNUSU's careful scrutiny of the process has identified that illegal calculation of 'cut-off is the cause for non-fulfilment of OBC quota. Th1s IS explained below. Why is the OBC quota in JNU not being fulfilled: Where lies the administration's fraud? .

The present moment is acritical juncture in implementing OBC reservations.Until last year, OBC students seeking admission were given 5extra marks on the basis of the deprivation point system. According to theOBC reservation law, OBC students can be given ar~uction of upto 10 marks. Why is it that with a5mark reduction.OBC students constJtuted 12% of the university'sstrength, while with reservation JNU is not able to fulfil even this number? Clearly, t11ere is adiscrepancy mthe way JNU is implementing thequota. In the meeting of the Standing Committee held on 11 111 August, the JNUSU Office-Bearers exposed the complete illegality of the basis on which the JNU .

Administration is defining and implemer.ting the law on OBC reservafion. According to the law and the MHRD directives, the university must fix "cut-off marks" for both unreserved and OBC candidates well in time. This cut-off is institution specific: it is the clear parameter on which it is evaluated whether students fit the standards of the institution or not. InJNU, for the unreserved candidates the cut off mark is 40, meaning that this is the benchmark that sets the standard of the university. The Supreme Court has stated that a maximum relaxation of 10 po1nts can be given to OBC candidate with regard to the un-reserved candidates as adifferential .

Accordingly, in JNU, the "cut-off mark" for OBC candidates should stand between 40 and 30. But this is something the university has .

not done. .

The crucial pomt of contention has to do with where we apply the 10 mark relaxation The Administration is presenUy arguing that this relaxation is to be .

applied on merit. In such acase, let us take the example of a particular centre: .

In this centre.suppose the merit list for the unreserved category is filled between 90 to 70 marks. Then,as per the JNU's argument, the 10 marks relaxation .

for the OBC cand1dates means that the quota has to be filled by students getting marks between 70 and 60. In this example,60 marks is the last benchmark .

.

for an OBC candidate to get admission. After this,if the quota is unfulfilled. the remaining seats will go to the general category. .

If the rematnrng seats are offered to the general category, then astudent of the general category can be given aseat at 65 marks,or 60 marks, or 55 marks. .

.

In the first situat1on.where a seat is given to an unreserved candidate getting 65 marks, then aseat has already been given to an OBC candidate at 65 marks.wh1ch means that the OBC candidate who has received the seat should actually be in the General Category and not in the OBC ment list' In the second situation, the general and the OBC candidates have been admitted at the same cut-off which is iflegal as OBC's should receive a10 mark relaxation in the cut-off! In the tflird situatjon, where the general candidate is taken in with 55 marks, ti1en the new general category student is below in merit to the last candidate .

· ofthe OBC merit list! Each of these situations is not only absurd, but illegal, and in contravention of the letter and spirit of the law. When confronted by JNUSU '.

on this issue of blatant illegalities, the Administration was left completely silent. s indefinite hunger strike enters its fifth day, the question to be asked is why is a particular organization bent on targeting.

As JNUSU'.

JNUSU? Why are they harping the issue of a non-existent "seat cut" and remaining completely silent on the illegalities of OBC .

reservation, which is one of the key reasons for non-fulfilment of the increased intake? .

The Challenge that faces us in today's UGBM There is avery real challenge that faces us in the UGBM today. It is clear that there for aparticular organization and its allies on campus, the prime concern .

is not implementing OBC reservation but targeting JNUSU. They would prefer to undermine JNUSU rather than struggle with JNUSU for social justice, only so as to serve their narrow political interests. JNUSU believes that the struggle for social justice cannot be held back by opportunist political forces that are spreading false rumours based on afalse 'smokescreen' of numbers. Ifthe opportunist politics of these organizations is allowed to play havoc, then the real focus of implementing OBC reservations will be defleqed. What is more, in aforum such as ~eJNUSU Council meeting, the councillors belonging to aparticular organization, when asked to darrfy their stand, took the minuted position that they "do not careabout rules orlegality."Such an attitudeis one of grave irresponsibility for the Central Act .

on OBC reservation is alaw that has to follow certain provisions. To hold that JNUSU "need not care about any law or rule" for the implementation .

of such an extremely important ACT of OBC reservation is tantamount to leaving the field open to anti-reservation forces both inside .

and outside the administration to challenge and obstruct the implementation of OBC reservation. This is an illegal and motivated .

position that JNUSU opposes in every way. .

JNUSU as aco/ledive student body has always stood onthe side of social justice. The implementation of OBC reservation in this campus has .

required vigilance and struggle every inch of the way. At each juncture, JNUSU has informed thestudent community of the developments at hand. We thank .

the student community for their support at every juncture. JNUSU appeals to the student community to stand in solidarity with JNUSU in .

today's UGBM against all those forces that have been targeting the union based on misleading and legally untenable arguments, and .

to ensure that the struggle against all existing anomalies in JNU's admission process, for fulfilment of PH, OBC, SC/ST quota and overall .

intake, extension of date of admission and for social justice is a victorious one. .

.

JNUSU congratulates the students for their support for the ongoing Indefinite Hunger Strike and their spirited participation in today's Demonstration at UGC. UGC Secretary met the JNUSU Delegation. On hearing our position on wrong application of OBC cut-off rules he assured to intervene with JNU today itself. .

🔹 1. Introduction: The Path to Becoming a Doctor

The MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is the essential undergraduate degree for those who wish to pursue a career as a doctor. It is one of the most respected and sought-after programs in the healthcare sector. Admission is highly competitive, requiring academic excellence in science subjects and success in national entrance exams like NEET-UG.

🔹 2. Academic Eligibility: The Foundation of Qualification

To apply for MBBS in India, candidates must meet specific academic standards:

✅ 10+2 Science Stream: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects.

✅ Minimum Marks: 50% aggregate for General Category; 40% for SC/ST/OBC.

✅ Compulsory English: English must be one of the subjects in 10+2.

📌 Strong basics in science are crucial for handling medical coursework.

🔹 3. Entrance Exams: Gateway to Medical Colleges

📝 NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is mandatory for admission to all MBBS colleges in India, including government, private, and deemed universities.

️ AIIMS & JIPMER also now accept NEET scores post-2020.

💡 A good NEET score improves chances of getting into top-ranked colleges.

🔹 4. Age Limit: Know the Required Age Criteria

🎂 Minimum Age: Must be 17 years old on or before December 31 of the admission year.

🚫 No Maximum Age: As per the latest NEET guidelines, there is no upper age limit, allowing more flexibility for aspiring candidates.

🔹 5. Top Medical Colleges in India: Government vs Private

Compare leading institutions based on cut-off ranks, annual fees, and seat availability.

✅ Government Medical Colleges

Madras Medical College (MMC) – Cutoff: 50 | Fee: ₹13,610/year

Stanley Medical College – Cutoff: 100 | Fee: ₹13,610/year

Anna University (CEG) – Cutoff: 200 | Fee: ₹50,000/year

Saveetha Medical College – Cutoff: 30,000 | Fee: ₹22,00,000/year

💡 Government colleges are more affordable but highly competitive.

🔹 6. Required Documents: Be Ready for Admission Process

To ensure smooth admission, prepare the following:

📄 10th and 12th Mark Sheets

📊 NEET Scorecard

🎂 Birth Certificate

️ Passport-size Photos

🆔 Identity Proof (Aadhar Card/Passport)

Caste Certificate (if applicable)

📝 Keep originals and photocopies ready for verification.

🔹 7. Conclusion: Build a Strong Medical Foundation

Pursuing MBBS is a challenging but fulfilling path that requires dedication, academic strength, and timely preparation. Meeting the core academic, exam, and documentation requirements is essential. With the right mindset and planning, you can embark on a successful journey to become a healthcare professional committed to saving lives and serving society.

JNU DRAMA FESTIVAL 2008 .

12'h Aug, 2008 .

Friends. .

NSUI would like to invite the attention of student community towards the annual drama festival that is going on in the theatre of Ad. Block. Scripted by a vicious and malicious plot and enacted by the impuissant juvenile comrades of AISA and SFI who are fighting with their heart and soul to gain the best drama a~:vard of 2008. However this year's edition of the August drama is just a continuation of the political farce played out in the name of apology drama last year. The actors are the same; the manipulative undercurrents are the same only the year is different. Friends, NSUI has repeatedly pointed out the anomalies and irregularities in the 2008 admission policy right .

from its forming stage. If the irregularities in the admission policy and process are there, then none other than left-led-JNUSU is to be held .

responsible for their misconduct, misinterpretation and misguidance of the student community in the campus. Ever since the Supreme Court of India vacated the stay on 27% OBC reservation in higher educational institutions NSUI has strongly demanded the full .

implementation of it in our university but unfortunately our JNU administration has been trying to water down the UPA government's inclusive reservation policy through various kinds of manipulation and conspiracy with the full support of AISA-Ied-JNUSU. This has become obvious when the Ministry of Human Resources Development rejected the initial guidelines brought out by JNU Academic .

Council with regard to the implementation of 013C reservation in this year's admissions. The subsequent meeting of Academic Council has reviewed its early proposal and decided to have a stage by stage implementation of OBC reservation and seat increase on the basis of 2006 as a Base Year. When all this was happening the JNUSU President and his lieutenants were enjoying their cup of tea and giving big 'ls with the administration the red stooges are now round ofapplause to the administration. After signing all their clandestine and dirty deaout with their manipulative third rate drama unpalatable to any human consciousness on this earth. The whole administrative mess that has brought the admission process under a serious cloud ofsuspicion and cynicism is the result of the farcical rotten underhand deals that the .

casteist comrades have entered into "'ith a retrogressive. inefficienr and callously indifferent administration. Friend's. this drama is nothing .

but an attempt to divert attention from the catastrophic failure ofJNUSU to address the burning concerns of the student community. NSUI strongly demands that the betrayers of the student community should show at least some principles of political morality at this stage and .

step down from their positions and call for an urgenr UGBMto reestablish the lost sanctity of the JNUSU .

\Ve demand A High Level Committee be setup so that a comprehensive and impartial inquiry can be hr ld regarding the flaws and .
