ANGKOR WAT
Angkor Wat ("City Temple") is a vast temple complex near Siem Reap, about 200 miles from the capital of Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
Built in the 12th century by the king of the prosperous Khmer empire, Angkor Wat was built as a royal temple dedicated to a Hindu deity.
After the city of Angkor fell to invaders, Angkor Wat receded into the jungle but continued as a Buddhist temple and a pilgrimage site over the centuries.
Angkor Wat is the best preserved example of Khmer architecture in Cambodia and is so grand in design that some rank it among the seven wonders of the world. It appears on the Cambodian national flag, a very rare instance of a flag incorporating an image of a building.
The "lost city" of Angkor first attracted the interest of Europeans in the 1800s after Cambodia was colonized by the French. Today, Angkor Wat continues to draw thousands of visitors anxious to see this remarkable ancient temple in the jungle.
In addition to many tourists, Buddhist monks are daily visitors to Angkor Wat, their bright orange robes making a vivid contrast with the grey stone of the temple.
HistoryThe city of Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire from the 9th to the 15th centuries. The Khmer empire was one of the most prosperous and sophisticated kingdoms in the history of Southeast Asia, and its prosperity was expressed through a wide range of architecture.
The city of Angkor was founded on political and religious ideas adapted from India, and the temples of Angkor were intended as a place of worship for the king and a way for him to ensure his immortality through identification with the Hindu gods.
Angkor Wat was built by King Suryavarman II in the 12th century as a vast funerary temple that would hold his remains, symbolically confirming his permanent identity with Vishnu.
Many of the bas-reliefs in the temple depict scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, Hindu sacred texts that recount the adventures of two major incarnations of Vishnu.
During its six centuries as imperial capital, Angkor went through many changes in architectural styles and in religion. The city of Angkor transferred its from the Hindu god Shiva to the Hindu god Vishnu, and finally to the Mahayana Buddhist deity Avalokitesvara.
By the late 13th century, the once frenzied pace of Angkor's architectural pursuits had begun to die down, and a more restrained type of religion was on the rise under the growing influence of Theravada Buddhism.
At the same time, Angkor and the Khmer Empire were increasingly threatened and attacked by invading armies. By the 16th century, the golden age of Angkor was over and many of the great temples began to recede into the jungle.
From the 15th to 19th centuries, Theravada Buddhist monks cared for Angkor Wat, and it is thanks to them that the temple remains mostly intact. Angkor Wat became one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Southeast Asia.
European visitors to Cambodia towards the later end of this period were intrigued by the "lost city" of Angkor. After the French established a colonial regime in Cambodia in 1863, the entire site became a focus of scholarly interest.

Another addition to my city of Mophet over on GoH at Eurobricks. Inspired (sort of) by the hanging gardens of Babylon and ancient roman baths.
In addition to all the butterflies seen at the Cecil B Day Butterfly Center, the butterfly conservatory has lots of beautiful plants and flowers to see at every turn.
Yes, these plants and flowers are planted specifically for the butterflies, but when you turn a corner and spot some beautiful orchids, like the ones above, you just have to grab a shot. Right?

Excerpt from Wikipedia: Pfalzgrafenstein Castle (German: Burg Pfalzgrafenstein) is a toll castle on the Falkenau island, otherwise known as Pfalz Island in the Rhine river near Kaub, Germany. Known as "the Pfalz," this former stronghold is famous for its picturesque and unique setting.
The keep of this island castle, a pentagonal tower with its point upstream, was erected 1326 to 1327 by King Ludwig the Bavarian. Around the tower, a defensive hexagonal wall was built between 1338 to 1340. In 1477 Pfalzgrafenstein was passed as deposit to the Count of Katzenelnbogen. Later additions were made in 1607 and 1755, consisting of corner turrets, the gun bastion pointing upstream, and the characteristic baroque tower cap.
The castle functioned as a toll-collecting station that was not to be ignored. It worked in concert with Gutenfels Castle and the fortified town of Kaub on the right side of the river. Due to a dangerous cataract on the river's left, about a kilometer upstream, every vessel would have to use the fairway nearer to the right bank, thus floating downstream between the mighty fortress on the vessel's left and the town and castle on its right. A chain across the river drawn between those to fortifications forced ships to submit, and uncooperative traders could be kept in the dungeon until a ransom was delivered. The dungeon was a wooden float in the well.

Chlamydomonas nivalis is a species of green algae containing a secondary red carotenoid pigment in addition to chlorophyll. Unlike most species of fresh-water algae, it is cryophilic (cold-loving) and thrives in freezing water.

Although only in the Everglades area for about 1 1/2 days, we saw multiple invasive species. We did not see a python.
Northern Curly-tailed Lizard - Native to the West Indies. In addition to potentially spreading parasites and disease, northern curly tails threaten native lizards’ food sources and prey on their hatchlings.
Auschwitz II-Birkenau gatehouse; the train track, in operation May–October 1944, led directly to the gas chambers.
Birkenau was the largest of the more than 40 camps and sub-camps that made up the Auschwitz complex. During its three years of operation, it had a range of functions. When construction began in October 1941, it was supposed to be a camp for 125 thousand prisoners of war. It opened as a branch of Auschwitz in March 1942, and served at the same time as a center for the extermination of the Jews. In its final phase, from 1944, it also became a place where prisoners were concentrated before being transferred to labor in German industry in the depths of the Third Reich.
The majority—probably about 90%—of the victims of Auschwitz Concentration Camp died in Birkenau. This means approximately a million people. The majority, more than nine out of every ten, were Jews. A large proportion of the more than 70 thousand Poles who died or were killed in the Auschwitz complex perished in Birkenau. So did approximately 20 thousand Roma and Sinti, in addition to Soviet POWs and prisoners of other nationalities.
Before getting into the title, let me address the image. In addition to the Finchette on the left side of the feeder, we see here a couple of new additions, not necessarily to the yard but definitely to the camera. So, why not introduce them simultaneously in a sitting pose plainly showing the backside as well as a snazzy flight maneuver by, yes, some of you may have guessed, Pine Siskins. As you can see, they are a pretty colored bird with beaks that are more slender than that of a Finch. We used to have a couple of green ones coming around but no such luck this year yet. One more reason we are looking at this flight shot is that I have encountered some criticism regarding my yard management techniques. I want to make it clear that Levitation is not the only thing happening here, although and perhaps because of my dislike for rules (in spite of my German upbringing – nothing is Verboten here) Levitation is practiced a lot.
The reason I am bringing up the “Counting Flowers on the Wall and Inner Peace” in the title is that I simply neglected to mention a couple of things in my previous exposé on Inner Peace. Not only do I do a lot of bird watching (as you may have realized by now), there are other things such as counting ducks that I previously mentioned. Playing solitaire and watching TV have actually taking a back seat to my taking pictures. Smoking cigarettes is still high on the list. Some of you, however, posted such marvelous flower shots with such vivid colors that I now find myself Counting Flowers On The Wall. These, of course, only exist in my mind but are not any less vivid than the real thing.

This mating pair of American White Pelicans appear to be enjoying each other's company on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. They are fairly recent additions to the River, much to the fisherman's dismay.

L&C train 14 has just departed Lancaster and is seen rolling westbound towards Richburg on a misty and rainy morning with a G&O painted GP40-2LW leading the L&C blue high hood GP38AC, and a recently acquired MP15DC. With nearly no two of the same model locomotives on the railroad, the L&C is a haven for oddball mashups of power like this.
This chunky, flying brick was a late-addition to the list of imperial shuttles. This particular boat has just ferried Minister Pol-Atumba to T'Rena for trade talks with The Empire. Unbeknownst to the Minister and her guards, she will not be leaving the meeting alive...
This boat is pretty heavily based on this piece. I made a few changes, most of which are pretty obvious. I made the wing tips fold and the cockpit more in line with the brutalist Imperial design language. The rear detailing is based on the lambda shuttle and the windows and guns are based on the zeta shuttle.
I wanted a nice imposing access ramp and I managed to fit two reasonable levels and a spacious cockpit. The main roof lifts off and the cockpit roof hinges up/is removable to see the upper deck. Sliding doors separate the cockpit from the main room and engine access is opposite. The upper deck's floor lifts off to reveal the lower deck/entryway and a ladder connects it all.
The internal structure here is the chonkiest I have ever made. It makes my 2020 SHIP look like a pile of leaves. I am very proud off all of the angles I managed to stick in here, although I do think the cockpit is a tad messy compared witht the rest of the build. All-in-all, I am confident that this boat would be able to support itself and then some irl.

As I have continued to consume photography related content at a ridiculous rate, I feel like I have continued to add tools to my arsenal of editing techniques, while removing old, useless ones. I did my best imitation of an Adam Gibbs style edit, and I am really liking how this looks.
This is yet another image that I had left to rot in my archives because I just didn't know what to do with it. If you look closely enough you're sure to find the many issues because I still didn't understand how to use proper shooting techniques, but I'm incredibly happy with the post processing nonetheless.

Eines dieser Papiere ist das Record Rapid. Ich konnte eine größere Menge dieses Papiers in 50x60cm erwerben. Ursprünglich wurde es laut Versandaufkleber geliefert an Bernd und Hilla Becher, die damit letztmalig gegen Ende des vergangenen Jahrhunderts gearbeitet haben.
Um Frustrationen zu vermeiden, hier ein Hinweis zur Verarbeitung.
Der Lithentwickler darf nicht so hoch verdünnt werden, wie sonst üblich.
Garantierte Lithresultate bringt die Verdünnung 75+75 ml auf 900 ml Wasser.
Die resultierende Belichtungszeit ist durch Versuche zu ermitteln. Bei „richtiger“ Belichtungszeit liegt der snatch point zwischen 8 bis 11 Minuten.
Some very old papers have such a high storage fog that they are only suitable for lith development. In addition, sensitivity also decreases, resulting in even longer exposure times than is usual for the lith process.
One of these papers is Record Rapid. I was able to purchase a large quantity of this paper in 50x60cm format. According to the shipping label, it was originally delivered to Bernd and Hilla Becher, who last worked with it at the end of the last century.
To avoid frustration, here is a tip for processing.
The lith developer must not be diluted as much as usual.
Guaranteed lith results are achieved with a dilution of 75+75 ml to 900 ml of water.
The resulting exposure time must be determined by trial and error. With the ‘correct’ exposure time, the snatch point is between 8 and 11 minutes.

My son & I experienced another big loss in our lives, after just losing my parents whom I took care of. We had to put down our beloved dog Sammy. She was 14 yrs old & died of old age.
This sweet half lab, half cattle dog fell into our laps pretty much. I'm friends with a foster mom for the rescue called Cold Nose Warm Heart Rescue. Max was available for pickup right after Easter! He is such a blessing & wonderful addition to our family!

A caravanserai (Persian: كاروانسرا kārvānsarā) was a (usually Persian-inspired or built) roadside inn where travelers could rest and recover from the day's journey. Caravanserais supported the flow of commerce, information, and people across the network of trade routes covering Asia, North Africa, and South-Eastern Europe. Most typically a caravanserai was a building with a square or rectangular walled exterior, with a single portal wide enough to permit large or heavily laden beasts such as camels to enter. The courtyard was almost always open to the sky, and the inside walls of the enclosure were outfitted with a number of identical stalls, bays, niches, or chambers to accommodate merchants and their servants, animals, and merchandise.
Caravanserais provided water for human and animal consumption, washing, and ritual ablutions. Sometimes they even had elaborate baths. They also kept fodder for animals and had shops for travellers where they could acquire new supplies. In addition, there could be shops where merchants could dispose of some of their goods. The word is also rendered as caravansarai or caravansary. The Persian word kārvānsarā is a compound word combining ''kārvān (caravan) with sara (palace, building with enclosed courts), to which the Persian suffix -yi is added. Here "caravan" means a group of traders, pilgrims, or other travelers, engaged in long distance travel.
This particular shot was taken in Virani caravanserai in Mashhad currently used as Mashhad Anthropology museum which nicely shows how the daily life in such a caravanserai looked like. The woman in the photo is actually no mystery to me but a dear friend Mashid who was kind enough to take her chador (A chādor or chādar (Persian چادر) is an outer garment or open cloak worn by many Iranian women in public spaces; it is one possible way in which a Muslim woman may follow the Islamic dress code known as ḥijāb. ) to "model" for me to add a human element into such an environment. I have purposely chosen low shutter speed (1/15 s) to capture the movement.
