Rue de Rivoli (Paris)
This is a very unusual view, from the top of the nearby Tour Saint-Jacques (a medieval tower that is off-limit, no trespassing and permanently closed to the public). The photo was taken at night using long exposure.
The camera is facing the North-West direction. The Rue de Rivoli is the one going from the bottom-center to the top-left of the image. The street going to the center-right is the Boulevard de Sébastopol. The street branching off from rue de Rivoli and going up toward the center-top is the Rue des Halles. In the upper-right of the photo you can clearly see the Église Saint-Eustache and the hill of Montmartre in the distance.

The huge Tesla coils of the Sextant camp are being dismantled.
Sadly, they blew up a critical part of their electrical system during some testing on Monday, so the large Tesla coils were off the whole week.

This is a photo of the total solar eclipse of March 9 2016, that I took in Sulawesi, Indonesia. The whitish hair-like structure around the sun is called the "corona", and it is formed by the hot gas particles (plasma) ejected by the sun into space (eventually forming the "solar wind").
The bright spot on the left is a solar prominence,
I used a regular DSLR camera (Sony A65) with a 300mm telephoto. No filter needed since this was taken during the moment of "totality", when it is safe to look at the sun with the naked eyes.
Initially I just processed this photo and this other one (both are single exposure).
Later, I processed all the good exposures I had to make an amazing image of this total solar eclipse.

Beautiful winter halo around the moon over San Francisco on Christmas eve 2012.
The planet near the moon is Jupiter. This is a 30 sec long exposure.
Moon Ring is a rather common phenomenon in winter. It happens when there is a thin layer of high clouds formed of ice crystals.

Disassembling the Medusa Madness sculpture.

Medusa's face was made of mirrored stainless steel and standing 14' tall by 11' wide. The 25 snakes protruding from Medusa's head reached a height of 27' and a distance of approximately 60'.

HSB Turning Torso is a skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden, located on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait. It was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and officially opened on 27 August 2005. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 stories. Upon completion, it was the tallest building in Scandinavia, and Europe's second highest apartment building, after the 264-metre-high Triumph-Palace in Moscow.
The 86-metre (280 ft)-high Kronprinsen was the tallest building in Malmö before Turning Torso.
The design is based on a sculpture by Calatrava called Twisting Torso. It uses nine segments of five-story pentagons that twist as it rises; the topmost segment is twisted ninety degrees clockwise with respect to the ground floor. Each floor consists of an irregular pentagonal shape rotating around the vertical core, which is supported by an exterior steel framework. The two bottom segments are intended as office space. Segments three to nine house 147 luxury apartments.
The Twisting Torso sculpture is a white marble piece based on the form of a twisting human being. Johnny Örbäck, former CEO of the Turning Torso contractor and Board Chairman of the Malmö branch of the co-operative housing association HSB, saw the sculpture in 1999 and contacted Calatrava to ask him to design a building using the same concept. Construction started in the summer of 2001.
One reason for the building of Turning Torso was to re-establish a recognizable skyline for Malmö since the removal of the Kockums Crane in 2002, which was located less than a kilometre from Turning Torso. The local politicians deemed it important for the inhabitants to have a symbol for Malmö — Kockumskranen, which was a large crane that had been used for shipbuilding and somewhat symbolised the city's blue collar roots.
As Turning Torso is a private residential building there is no access for the general public.

Illumacanth, by: Rebecca Anders
From the Burning Man website: The Illumacanth is a massive fishy monster surging up from the ground, with mouth agape and brain alight. Its dark, deeply textured exterior surrounds a bright, reflective interior, into which one may venture through its toothy jaws. Elevated over its open head is a halo of silver bird-fish which dance and spin. Flame effects and undulating lights enliven this mysterious beast, and invite the participant to rest on its fins, gather inside, and sneak through its gills. The Illumacanth is a free-standing, interactive sculptural installation made primarily of metal. It provides seating and gathering space, and features flame and light effects as well as kinetic elements.

Kumbh Mela is the largest festival on Earth, taking place once every 12 years, with more than 50 million Hindu pilgrims gathering to pray and bathe in the holy Ganges river.
Thousands of Hindu devotees gather on the bank of the Ganges river at the Sangam where they will take the Holy Dip. The Triveni Sangam is the confluence of the Yamuna and the Ganga (Ganges) rivers, and this is the holiest place to take the ritual baths during the Kumbh Mela.

Loads of pressurized gasoline and propane gas are blown-up around the base of "the man" at the end of the Burning Man Festival. They use a controlled BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion).
Can't we burn that "man" thing without blowing up that much fossil fuel? This is not environmentally friendly at all. It's just a big orchestrated pyrotechnic show like those you see at Disney World or Hollywood. We don't need that. Am I the only one to feel that way?
By the way, I was in the crowd with everyone else when I took this photo, I did not have an "Inner Circle Pass" this year. Camera was handheld, no tripod.
