Night & Ellen, both about to be arrested, reading the names of the dead.
My last posts covered Day 6. This post takes us back to Day 5 of the protest occurring in Congressman Rick Larsen's (D - WA) office in Bellingham's Federal Building.
Three arrests were made on day 5: In alphabetical order, Ellen, Lisa & Night. As before, they & others entered Rep. Larsen's office, & peacefully sat down to read the names of the dead & say a little about those they once knew. Names of soldiers, names of Iraqis ...
Rep. Larsen did not telephone & speak with the protesters, so they continued reading past the building's regular closing time. The police were called, & most of the protesters got up & left when they arrived, but 3 declined to leave. The police ushered the 3 outside & issued trespass tickets as they had at previous arrests, but with a new wrinkle: Arrestees were given no trespass orders, which have now been interpreted as prohibiting entry into the Federal Building until after Dec. 31 (Ellen, arrested again & given a 2nd no trespass order on Oct. 20, is now prohibited for life). Moreover, all protesters were advised that henceforth all arrestees will get no trespass orders added to their tickets (the most costly ticket so far was issued to a 76 year old woman in the amount of $543 during a sentencing hearing at which the judge denied her right to make a statement - she is possibly going to land in jail despite the fact that her protest was wholly peaceful & consisted entirely of quietly declining to leave Larsen's office unless he spoke with her, which he did not do & continues week after week to evade doing with any of the protesters).
The Honorable Rick Larsen (D - WA) is among the few that voted against giving George W. Bush war powers, but since then he has voted for every war budget, for every weapon & weapons system, & failed to satisfy the honest concerns of growing numbers of people who see the disparity between what he says & what he does. Some of the people are parents of soldiers, including soldiers killed in Iraq. I surmise that perhaps the Honorable Rick Larsen evades these people because, if too many people were to hear it, a fully truthful explanation would not serve his interests or ambitions. Thus it may be that it's better for him to let decent citizens be arrested than speak with them. And on Day 6, he found it better to lock them out of his office & have one of them arrested. Just look at the people in the picture up above. That's who he is afraid of.
- Some of us do not like bullies. We find it difficult to be tolerant of gutless arrogance.

Since the arrival of the Fitbit it has suddenly dawned on me that this steps thing is easier said than done.
However, today, in the quest to show stairs on the Fitbit I used the stairs at work instead of the lift.
Going down was definitely easier than going up but even going up wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
AND - first 10,000 steps thanks to missing the bus and walking to the next bus stop!
