A storm is coming.

"I don't just wish you rain, Beloved - I wish you the beauty of storms." -John Geddes

I love storms, violent weather, fierce and bold. I have since before I can remember. My mother told me that before I could walk, I would crawl to the window as quickly as I could upon the first crackle of lighting across a darkened, stormy sky. I would pull myself up on shaky legs, pull aside the curtains, and just watch, mouth open and eyes in wonder.

With each clap of thunder, each bolt of lighting and each slash of rain across the window, I would smile, bounce up and down on wobbly, little legs, point a tiny finger at the heavens and coo and speak in baby jabberwocky talk.

She said at first she feared for my safety, and would pull me away from the windows. But I would howl and cry and struggle to get back when she did. Eventually, she said, she recognized I was safe and secure as storms held no danger for me; that I was at home with them and seemed to feel particularly alive in their embrace.

She, however, would retreat to her chair in the closet to read, smoke cigarettes and just ride them out (she still did this until she could no longer get out of bed. Even when she was 80, when a storm blew in I'd call and say,

"Mom, you in the closet?"

"Damn right, you know I am," she'd reply with a smile in her voice).

Dad would sit in his chair, smoking his pipe, and read the paper as if nothing was happening, while I was free to go to the window, or out on the porch as I got older, and be one with the storm.

I have been ever since.

"Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky." - Rabindranath Tagore

"Nature is impersonal, awe-inspiring, elegant, eternal. It's geometrically perfect. It's tiny and gigantic. You can travel far to be in a beautiful natural setting, or you can observe it in your backyard - or, in my case, in the trees lining City sidewalks, or in the clouds above skyscrapers." - Gretchen Rubin

“To make myself understood and to diminish the distance between us, I called out: “I am an evening cloud too.” They stopped still, evidently taking a good look at me. Then they stretched towards me their fine, transparent, rosy wings. That is how evening clouds greet each other. They had recognized me.” - Rainer Maria Rilke, Stories of God

"Forests, lakes, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes - every form of animate or inanimate existence, leaves its impress upon the soul." - Orison Swett Marden

Light painted still life. Bristol Blue Glass has been made in our city since the 18th century. Cobalt Oxide is added to the glass to give it this deep blue colour. Local legend is that it was developed as a way of hiding the precise amount of taxable liquid in large glass containers from customs and excise officers.

The National War Memorial (also known as The Response), is a tall granite cenotaph with acreted bronze sculptures, that stands in Confederation Square, Ottawa, and serves as the federal war memorial for Canada.

Originally built to commemorate the First World War, in 1982 it was rededicated to include the Second World War and the Korean War. In 2000, the Canadian Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was added to the memorial site and symbolizes the sacrifice made by every Canadian who has died or may yet die for their country.

Tolquhon Castle (pronounced: "toh-hon", and sometimes spelt 'Tolquhoun') is located in Aberdeenshire, north-east Scotland. It lies about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-west of Pitmedden, and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Tarves. The castle was built by William Forbes, 7th Laird of Tolquhon, between 1584 and 1589 as an extension to the earlier tower house known as Preston's Tower. Although ruined, the castle has been described as "the most characteristic château of the Scots Renaissance". It is in the care of Historic Scotland and is open to the public. Preston's Tower was constructed in the early 15th century, either by Sir Henry Preston or by his son-in-law Sir William Forbes, who inherited part of the Preston lands in 1420, following Sir Henry's death. His descendant William Forbes, 7th Laird of Tolquhon (died 1596), began work on a new castle in 1584, retaining the Preston Tower but adding new, more comfortable accommodation. He also improved the gardens and parkland around the house. King James VI was entertained at Tolquhon in 1589. The new buildings were arranged around a courtyard, and included an elaborate gatehouse, and a first-floor gallery. An inscription on the gatehouse records that "AL THIS WARKE EXCEP THE AULD TOWR WAS BEGUN BE WILLIAM FORBES 15 APRIL 1584 AND ENDIT BE HIM 20 OCTOBER 1589". The home of a "Renaissance man", Tolquhon was designed for show rather than defence, and was the work of the mason-architect Thomas Leper or Leiper. Leper's distinctive triple shot-holes flank the main entrance, and are also found at nearby Arnage Castle and Dean Castle in Ayrshire. Also unusual is the stone tilework in the main hall. After William Forbes' death his descendants continued to occupy Tolquhon until 1718, when they were forced to move out due to debts incurred by the failure of the Darien scheme. The castle subsequently decayed and is now a ruin. It is in the guardianship of Historic Scotland and is open to the public. Tolquhon is also a category A listed building and a scheduled monument.

Evening of Wednesday 19th June 2019 and Lothian Buses launches in partnership with Pride Edinburgh their fabulous Pride Bus for 2019! In my opinion this is one of the smartest pride buses I have seen.

Lothian 584 gets the special honours of carrying this striking wrap ahead of Edinburgh Pride on Saturday 22nd June.

The Napier Soundshell was built in 1935 after the 1931 earthquake and 2 years later the surrounding Colonnade and so-called 'New Napier Arch' on the right were added.

This created a public square in front of the bandstand. The forecourt was a popular place for dancing and roller skating through the early 1950s.

The two projects were sponsored by the Thirty Thousand Club.

The Art Deco Sound Shell was the first to be built in New Zealand and it trumpeted Napier's intention not just to rise from the earthquake rubble and ashes but to reinvent itself in the process.

The unpainted columned structure on the left is called Veronica Sunbay .

The HMS Veronica was a U.K. naval ship built in 1915.

On the morning of February 3, 1931, the vessel was docked in Port Ahuriri when the harbor floor lurched upwards during the earthquake and beached the ship.

The crew radioed for help from nearby ships then sprang into action recusing earthquake victims.

The Veronica Sunbay was built in 1934 within Marine Parade Gardens to honor the crew’s bravery.

The curved colonnade on the foreshore of Hawke’s Bay was rebuilt in 1991.

I have added Sii and more Oiii narrowband to an earlier image of this shot in HOO + L and RGB for stars. The longest capture time for me so far totalling 35.5 hours,.

The Bubble Nebula is 7 light-years across – about one-and-a-half times the distance from our sun to its nearest stellar neighbour, Alpha Centauri – and resides 7,100 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. For perspective, I worked out that it would take a Voyager Spacecraft about 140,000 years to travel across the Bubble Nebula.
