Using a homemade adapted 700mm and a really dirty double glass window on the tenth floor, I managed to pull this off.
The towers are1+miles (2+km) away and the building is .... much further.
Tomorrow will be spectacular if the sun doesn't go past the towers. Should hit right on the right tower at sunset.
The 700mm: I took a Tamron 500mm Refractive and removed the back. Took the Canon plastic body cap that came with the camera and drilled the center out just right and glued it on the 500mm,.... just right. (JB WELD glue, not budging)
No electronics, but known to be a constant f/8 and I shoot on Aperture priority which kicks out a fast enough shot to use the lens for distance.
I made an glass insert from a Minolta 250.. that I didn't have any use for. I say 700mm, but I believe more
Using 'Lens Adapters' is a good way to have a more versatile outfit and can save a lot of extra buying ! I have a selection which enables me to use all my lovely 'M42 Pentax / Praktica Screw Thread lenses' on my other cameras , including Digital .I got my Pentax M42 to Pentax 'K' Bayonet and my Canon 'P' adapter for a Fiver each from the famous Dealer David S.H Leung of Goodmayes. The M39 Leica thread to M42 Screw came with my Russian MTO 500mm mirror lens and I have used it for sports with my Pentax Screw models and with the 105mm f4.5 E-Rokkor enlarging lens ( shown) for Macro photos. The latest addition was an adapter to enable me to fit M42 screw lenses on my 2005 'Gift' Olympus E-500 digital and I use it with a 50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar, or my 50mm f4 SMC Macro-Takumar. Of course, you loose all the 'Electronic Contacts' for Auto-Focus and such like so you have to use 'Manual Focus and Manual Exposure' but it's WORTH IT ! Got a Nikon D60 with 24$ from Goodwill auction, only 4.000 shots done with the camera :D Mix with a Pentax 28-90mm and Fotodiox Adapter.

This thing weighs a ton. Sort of negates the whole point of getting a small camera.
