Well actually southwestern Illinois, but it isn’t as catchy. :-) For people like myself who’ve only seen the tabletop-flat plains of the top 5/6ths of Illinois, covered with hundreds and hundreds of miles of corn and soybeans, the southern tip of the state near the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers comes as quite a surprise.

I actually put my camera on a tripod today (October 23, 2005) and shot some deep dof shots at about 3- or 4-second shutter speeds. I think I had the 70-300 on for this one. Check EXIF data. Obviously the pond was VERY calm. Schoepfle Garden, 23 October 2005.

Oops: Just noticed the data didn't upload on this: How about 300 telephoto, f22 at 3 seconds. I used the aperture-priority program, closed down all the way and let the camera select the right shutter speed. Also used the timer function to release the shutter.

Note for autumn 2009: This has been viewed more than 2,200 times ... far behind my most-viewed photo, which is at 21,641: www.flickr.com/photos/jonfobes/64021923/

I actually don't know the name for this pond but it was in the morning ;-) This was shot on the road to Red Rock Canyon in Waterton National Park, Canada.

For those interested, 'Crown of the Continent' is the title of an article in National Geographic this month about Glacier-Waterton. The link to the article is here.

Actually the best thing to do is to watch an Atlantic Puffin enjoy the rain-taken off the shores of Grand Manan (New Brunswick, Canada).

Actually it was dawning, but that’s less poetic

Lol, actually this lovely nanna was helping what I guess to be her little grandson to wave jump. I have my outrageous hat on today because my mood isn't so good....Alas Beau my Golden Retriever has misplaced one of the two ancient teddies (well the lost one is a Lion actually but was soft and raggy ) the same as the old Teddy we purchased quickly for when I bought him home from the whelping pen. I rubbed both into his smelly fur and and he has suckled on one or the other over the ten years of his life... we have searched for days but can't find Lion anywhere. I woke at 4.30 am and at 6.30 am was almost sick with tiredness trying to think of new places to look. Even my son joined the search yesterday and both Jon and I resumed this morning. No Lion ........

Several hours later 4 worn knees ( I even knelt on the bar divider between a cloak room and hall and am limping badly. We are going to try the shed in a little while when we feel a little recovered…Beau keeps lying all morose in his dog bed in the kitchen 😞

This young pup was only born last night. Already it was well adept at wooing the crowds.

As always I extend my sincere appreciation to all those who take the time to stop by and comment on my photos.

Actually a rather lucky capture of a bluebell meadow ... in mist at Hembury Woods ... utilising the cosmicar tv lens on an old Panasonic Lumix G2.

Great effect I think :D

Actually we were on our way back home, with Iceland Air!

Actually taken a couple years ago on our fishing trip in Montana. I found this following a dirt road for 14 miles across ranch lands. It looks like the rancher was mimicking the "3- pink caddy's" artwork only his own twist on it.

What I couldn't figure is where they were located who would ever see them except a few stray cattle or maybe some lost fool like myself.

This one actually makes me smile. I was out in a local town shooting a roll of film through a camera that I intended on selling just to make sure everything worked. There were some stairs going up to a parking lot on top of a building and I was looking at the stairs to see if there was a picture there to be had when these two young lads bustled past on their way up the stairs. They had noticed my camera and when they got to the top of the stairs one of them turned around and shouted down - did I want to take his picture. I laughed and said sure and he gave me that pose and "attitude" before laughing and running off.

Actually managed a day out with my camera today, and had the chance to tick 2 locations off my ever-growing bucket list. This beautiful old abandoned church really tickled me, with the oak tree growing up through the middle. Unfortunately we were plagued with very harsh sunlight today, so a return trip is on the cards....;-)

The buildings are actually red.

Actually, I'm quite a domesticated person. I love the little things of home.

Actually unsure if this is ICM or ME, playing about with a phone and the Slow Shutter app.

Actually yes just a hole in the ceiling in a building, but what a great historic building allows here in Aix-en-Provence the great view of the blue summer sky of southern France free.

Actually taken a day after the full moon so it's waning. A blue moon is the last of four full moons in a season when there are usually three. A fairly rare event, hence the expression "once in a blue moon". This one is also a 'supermoon' which is when it is orbiting closer to Earth and appears slightly larger in the sky.

A clear night last night so I nipped out the back garden for a quick hand held shot of it.

Actually one of two cubs. Luluka is pretty well known around Masai Mara and her two cubs are certainly star attractions.

Here is one simply chillin' in the morning sun. Life is good eh?

Actually, it is a chalk stream. This means, it flows when there is a lot of rain (as is now) and during a dry summer there might be only a trickle. The River Ver begins just outside of Markyate in Hertfordshire and passes St Albans on its way south where it becomes part of the river network feeding into the Thames. Here, squeezed in between Chequers Hill and the old A5 (Watling Street, the ancient Roman road), the stream has created a flood plain (to the delight of water fowl). Fuji X-E3 plus Samyang wide-angle lens.

Actually the first Burr Truss covered bridge in Lehigh Valley that my sweet west coast damsel and I ventured to that October day last fall, ironic that it’s image would be the last of the three Burr Truss covered bridges that I post, located in Northampton Pennsylvania is the Kreidersville Covered Bridge, built back in 1839 over the Hokendauqua Creek. In 1959 a grass roots movements by the local citizens recognizing the historical significance of the vanishing covered bridges when the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation State Highway Department wanted to knock down the bridge replace it with a concrete bridge, banded together to save the 116 foot long Hummel's - Koch's - Solt's Bridge as it was then known, named after the families that resided near the bridge and organized & formed the ‘The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania’ named after the gentlemen whose patented truss design was used in the construction of this bridge and actually the other two which my west coast damsel and I visited on that day. The state has 250 of the remaining 1500 covered bridges left in the United States.

Actually, a young looking Australian reed warbler, having a fine time singing in the water-lily pads. I could hear this little guy for twenty minutes or so before the head suddenly popped up!

Actually vanilla with coloured flash and some sliders. Happy Smile on Saturday

Actually it looks like a broccoli/cauliflower hybrid, writ large.

I asked around for answers as to what this is called.

Mary says “Crepe myrtle.”

Tom says: Melaleuca linariifolia. Also known as Paperbark or "snow in summer" tree. www.marinatreeandgarden.org/treelist/melaleuca_l.html

Actually not Elephant Ears at all, but Taro plants, which love it along the swampy shore of Lake Verret!

Well, after doing some research, I don't think these are Elephant Ears at all, but a close cousin, called Taro. Don't confuse the two, as one (Elephant Ear) is poisonous and the other is completely edible. Check out the link below...

www.mauijungalow.com/2012/03/taro-vs-elephant-ear-telling...

This is actually an early evening moon, I was just going to capture & caught some birds going to roost for the night.

For my 365 in January I’m only capturing black and white photos Thanks for looking!

Well I actually bought two gerbera daisies yesterday. The orange one posted prior and this red one. Of course with a hundred or so ladybugs flying around, I took several shots. I chose to put this ladybug on the flower because she has no spots on her back shell. Haven't seen many of those. She dares to be different. ;)

I added Soulful Action- BerriesNCream- 30% opacity.

EXPLORE #446

Actually this ship never leaves it's spot. It is a restaurant but only during the summer.

sand looks warm but it was actually pretty cold

Actually I don't think this is a wetland or a swamp. It's just a few old boggy areas right off a hiking/biking trail called Lost Valley here in St. Charles County. I just love the obvious old age of the trees in this area. & although the water has this algae, or whatever it is atop it, the water is actually clear, which just adds to the beauty of this awesome place. Not to mention how much I love a late winter landscape & these skies.

I actually took this (and a few other ornaments) to the beach but it was so overcast that I decided not to take photos. So they got a trip out, and a walk along the beach.

When I got back to town it was nicer, so I went to a park and had a little photo shoot there instead :-)

So I looked through my photostream today and saw how many beach related photos I've got. And at least a quarter of the 'non-beach related' ones actually were taken on the way too, from, or next to, a beach!

All these lovely little purple shells were found and carefully collected by me at Himatangi beach, NZ.

Another couple of shots of these purple shells

These may look like real monks but they are actually incredibly realistic waxworks

Actually a small swamp behind it.

The lake is actually behind the trees 😄

......actually there are 5 babies on board, 2 are hidden, the remaining 2 had to follow on behind. E-M1-MKII/100-400mm.

Actually Im not sure when Im not in the mood for stripes? They are my very favoritist and a staple of my own actual wardrobe :P

España - Cantabria - Santillana del Mar

***

ENGLISH

Santillana del Mar is a historic town situated in Cantabria, Spain. Its many historic buildings attract thousands of holidaymakers every year. The name actually derives from Santa Juliana (or Santa Illana) whose remains are kept in the Colegiata, a Romanesque church and former Benedictine monastery. The UNESCO World Heritage site Cave of Altamira is nearby.

***

Actually they were white.

Actually, that red building has six rather unattractive gables, but I think the colors, shapes, and textures work nicely with that icon of Manhattan architecture, the Flatiron Building.

The Flatiron Building, located at the crossroads of Broadway and Fifth Avenue at 23rd Street, is considered, at 285 feet tall, to be one of the first skyscrapers ever built. Upon completion in 1902 it was one of the tallest buildings in New York City. My how things change.

Taken near Fort Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

Not the best shot, but posted in the public interest.

Many an experienced bird bander worth their salt will no doubt have a replete collection of whoppers concerning his or her near misses in the handling of the the fairly uncommon "Horned Variant" of American Goldfinches.

The same caution should be applied as one would employ, say...removing a slippery catfish from off the hook...watch out for those sharp little barbs! These little 'tusks' will likewise deliver a nasty sting much the same way as the spurs on a rooster or the aforementioned catfish.

American Goldfinch "Horned Variant"

Actually, I think she may be moonlighting at the cake shop. Maybe she's just trying to pick up some tips from the experts. :)

For this week's Macro Mondays group theme, Stack.

I was actually drawn to this tree branch by its shape and the delicate plant (some sort of vine or creeper?) encircling it. So I just had to sit there - focus on the interesting bit of the branch and wait for a bird to land on it.

Male Green Honeycreeper.

Taken at the edge of the rain forest, Costa Rica.

Actually, this is not quite true. Truth is not my strong side, but it has to be said that I make sure that I have enough. But, when it comes to others, I don't give a shit about anything. What have others ever done for me? Yes, they empty the bins. But apart from that, what have the others ever done for me? OK, they stack the shelves in the shops for me and deliver my mail, but apart from bins, shelves and mail, what have the others ever done for me? What, policing the neighbourhood, children's education and medical support? I'll give you that. But apart from bins, shops, post, police, school and hospital, what have the others ever done for me? And so on, and so on.

This is the actual print from the negative. Split toned in sepia and selenium toners. It actually looks more pinkish than the phone photo shows. Printed on Ilford Multigrade Classic FB paper.

These are actually metal crosses - there was once a foundry in Burnham. Once you know that, you notice metal stuff all over the village, from gates to architectural wall tie plates, that you now know must have been made here. And the odd grave marker.

This morning I found that I actually did push the shutter speed down further to 1/30 at 840mm. Above image is 100% cropped with no sharpening. Other than the details the noise level is very good compared to what I am used too. Typically with m4/3 I needed to apply selective aggressive NR. I actually had 5 successive shots with this sharpness and details. Shot in burst mode.

Thank you my friends and appreciate your visits & favourites & comments.

Wishing you a beautiful day.

We actually just wanted to watch a movie and order something to eat, but then someone started taking off their pants... maybe it was me... but it's just more comfortable without pants :P and beside how i can resist my pretty cute Latisha♥

Actually, I now believe this may be a Yellow Warbler. Due to two great Flikrites I actually did some looking in my bird book and came up with my best guess. I do at least know that it is not a Goldfinch. Cute though.

This bug is actually called a Goldenrod Soldier Bettle, Chauliognathus pennsylvanicus Or Pennsylvanis Leatherwing Beetle
