Actually a great model: Living and working in one house. Both are spatially separated and there is a separate front door for every purpose..
Camera shy! Noisy! hyper energetic! and a tail that is actually longer than its body! Always fun to watch., and this one finally (for a second at least) posed for a pic!
actually the name of the Mountain is Walmendinger Horn. And it's top is a smart place for a sunset ... one of my future projects. Allgäu, Kleinwalsertal Austria, Österreich; Vorarlberg.
This gull is actually about two miles from the power plant in the background, but the distance is compressed due to my telephoto lens.
This Edgewater Generating Station is coal fired and is due to be closed down next year after 91 years of service. The site will be cleaned up and repurposed for another use.
Update: this is actually not a geyser, but a pool at the Black Sand Basin.
From the website: www.yellowstonenationalpark.com/blacksand.htm
Temperature 180°F Dimensions 145x191 feet. Depth 23.5 feet. Sunset Lake is a shallow thermal pool with a soft sinter bottom and yellow and orange bacteria and algae edges. The pool discharges into Iron Creek, and overflows into Rainbow Pool creating a large microbial mat between the two thermal features. The 1959 earthquake triggered an eruption of Sunset Lake and the surge of hot water killed the bacteria and algae in the run-off channels. It has erupted only occasionally since 1959; during eruption it surges three feet high but may reach eight to ten feet. No known underground connection exists between Rainbow Pool or other Black Sand Basin thermal features.
Thank you for taken your time to visit me, comments or faves are always much appreciated!
actually a part of Ilhéu de Vila Franca do Campo, this vulcanic fomation with the perfect circled crater for which you need a drone .
I actually had to turn around to pull over on the side of the road to take this image.... I will never do that unless it is abandoned or like this one for sale. Living in the country myself I honestly would not like my home being photographed without my knowledge, so I try to always think about that over the past couple of years. This place had so much character and I enjoyed doing some landscape photography for a change of pace.
After being shut out the night before by a stubborn storm that refused to break up over Jasper National Park, we had our fingers crossed as we headed back to Maligne Lake the following morning. We all seemed pretty happy with our blue hour shots, but as sunrise approached, it really began to look like we might not see the sun at all that day. I think we had all resigned ourselves to the fact that we were looking at another completely gray day when I glanced up an noticed the faintest wisp of pink on one of the clouds. Sure enough, the sun broke through just enough to throw some fleeting color across the the clouds that were continuing to roll in from the West. I think Tom and I are the ones in our group who really have a problem standing still during moments like this. Both of us went off in all directions at once, and both of us had two camera bodies for just such an occasion. Leaving my D800 on the tripod, I took off running with my D750 and cranked up the ISO a bit while I looked for other comps in addition to what I was getting down at the lakeside.
As I was racing back to my spot in front of the boat house, this puddle caught my eye and I spent the next few minutes trying to shoot if from several different angles with the 14-24. There have been times where I have doubted my run and gun approach, but I usually reserve it for situations where I feel like I've got a decent shot on the tripod before setting of to see what I might be missing maybe just a few steps away. If I had stayed camped out where I was I would have missed this particular shot along with quite a few others. We ALL gave in to temptation two nights before when we had a perfectly good view of the late afternoon sun up at the Opabin Prospect, but curiosity got the better of us and we full out RAN back up the trail to get more shots of the larches behind us. So I think there is something to be said for making sure you KEEP MOVING once you believe you have a decent shot...especially when you might only have another few minutes of good light.
This being said, it helps to be able to TRUST the guys who you are shooting next to. Maybe leaving the camera on the tripod while you run like a maniac in all directions should be reserved for those times when you actually know the people around you...or you might not have a camera when you get back. :)

Lol, actually this lovely nanna was helping what I guess to be her little grandson to wave jump. I have my outrageous hat on today because my mood isn't so good....Alas Beau my Golden Retriever has misplaced one of the two ancient teddies (well the lost one is a Lion actually but was soft and raggy ) the same as the old Teddy we purchased quickly for when I bought him home from the whelping pen. I rubbed both into his smelly fur and and he has suckled on one or the other over the ten years of his life... we have searched for days but can't find Lion anywhere. I woke at 4.30 am and at 6.30 am was almost sick with tiredness trying to think of new places to look. Even my son joined the search yesterday and both Jon and I resumed this morning. No Lion ........
Several hours later 4 worn knees ( I even knelt on the bar divider between a cloak room and hall and am limping badly. We are going to try the shed in a little while when we feel a little recovered…Beau keeps lying all morose in his dog bed in the kitchen 😞
Actually, he's just napping. I'm working hard (to support those cute freckles) and the weather is warming up and colors are suddenly starting to appear outdoors so again, I'm disabling commenting.
Actually taken on November 15, 2010, with an iphone, somewhere over the US midwest. I ran across this on the phone and decided to work with it a bit. Not sure why the info is lost.
A actually planned for a thin crescent moonrise about an hour before sunrise, which means I set my alarm an hour earlier than normal... Well there ain't no moon in that sky that morning(I must have misplanned somewhere) , so I just sat and waited for the sun to come up, Yorkie at my side.

Actually I don't know real the name of this creek that flows through the forest at Buttermilk Falls in New Jersey. A lady in the parking lot saw all our cameras and said she was sad nobody ever photographs this part of the scene because they are all looking at the huge waterfall across the road. She sounded so proud and satisfied with her observation that I didn't want to spoil it for her, but I had already taken this picture of the spot from above.
Actually it's not so easy for wildlife but anyone who decides to live in my garden has a much easier day to day way of life. This chipmunk spent his lazy summer days in the coolness of my fern last year. He would roll and cover himself with the cool damp soil and then rest. It was a good life.
I actually put my camera on a tripod today (October 23, 2005) and shot some deep dof shots at about 3- or 4-second shutter speeds. I think I had the 70-300 on for this one. Check EXIF data. Obviously the pond was VERY calm. Schoepfle Garden, 23 October 2005.
Oops: Just noticed the data didn't upload on this: How about 300 telephoto, f22 at 3 seconds. I used the aperture-priority program, closed down all the way and let the camera select the right shutter speed. Also used the timer function to release the shutter.
Note for autumn 2009: This has been viewed more than 2,200 times ... far behind my most-viewed photo, which is at 21,641: www.flickr.com/photos/jonfobes/64021923/
Actually, Salisbury market place on a rainy evening in October. Salisbury is a stunning, historical town with much to commend it. However, it is still struggling with reduced visitor numbers after the novichok poisoning episode several years ago. I was standing in this market square looking at a signpost that gave distances to other Salisburys around the world and a local resident stopped to ask if I needed help, I told her I was just visiting and she actually thanked me for visiting. If you are passing and can spare the time Salisbury is worth a visit and you will be made welcome by residents and businesses alike.
Actually taken a couple years ago on our fishing trip in Montana. I found this following a dirt road for 14 miles across ranch lands. It looks like the rancher was mimicking the "3- pink caddy's" artwork only his own twist on it.
What I couldn't figure is where they were located who would ever see them except a few stray cattle or maybe some lost fool like myself.
This one actually makes me smile. I was out in a local town shooting a roll of film through a camera that I intended on selling just to make sure everything worked. There were some stairs going up to a parking lot on top of a building and I was looking at the stairs to see if there was a picture there to be had when these two young lads bustled past on their way up the stairs. They had noticed my camera and when they got to the top of the stairs one of them turned around and shouted down - did I want to take his picture. I laughed and said sure and he gave me that pose and "attitude" before laughing and running off.

Actually one of two cubs. Luluka is pretty well known around Masai Mara and her two cubs are certainly star attractions.
Here is one simply chillin' in the morning sun. Life is good eh?
A princely, or actually a kingly 1908 Daimler produced in England and powered by a silent sleeve-valved 9.5 liter engine capable of 75 MPH (imagine that on 1908 roads) and outfitted with a phaeton body of a style known as Roi des Belges, as it was first chosen by the King of Belgium in 1901, and remained in form for a number of years. The car is better than new in it's pristine restoration, and comes with a gallon of brass cleaner and a dozen rags..........just kidding.

Mirror Lake is actually an impoundment of Dell Creek. A dam to provide a head of water for a flour mill was first installed in 1860, creating Mirror Lake. The really beautiful thing about this reservoir is that it sits in a narrow canyon. The canyon is believed to have been formed when the proglacial lake in the Dell Creek basin (connected to glacial Lake Wisconsin) emptied catastrophically. A place of great beauty with scenic sandstone "dells" that are covered with White and Red Pines. The high sides of the canyon keep the wind from disturbing the surface of the lake most of the time, so the name "Mirror Lake" is really justified.
The structure in the distance behind the fallen tree is the famous Ishnala supper club. A destination for special family occasions for over 60 years. Some of the pines actually are growing through through the building itself. Have a great Sunday.
Actually the first Burr Truss covered bridge in Lehigh Valley that my sweet west coast damsel and I ventured to that October day last fall, ironic that it’s image would be the last of the three Burr Truss covered bridges that I post, located in Northampton Pennsylvania is the Kreidersville Covered Bridge, built back in 1839 over the Hokendauqua Creek. In 1959 a grass roots movements by the local citizens recognizing the historical significance of the vanishing covered bridges when the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation State Highway Department wanted to knock down the bridge replace it with a concrete bridge, banded together to save the 116 foot long Hummel's - Koch's - Solt's Bridge as it was then known, named after the families that resided near the bridge and organized & formed the ‘The Theodore Burr Covered Bridge Society of Pennsylvania’ named after the gentlemen whose patented truss design was used in the construction of this bridge and actually the other two which my west coast damsel and I visited on that day. The state has 250 of the remaining 1500 covered bridges left in the United States.
Actually several motorboats out on St. Lawrence River still fishing from here. This is access from Lamoureux Park. They have taken off boat Docks as at some point in winter this section gets iced, but not yet. I could paddle there too
Actually taken a day after the full moon so it's waning. A blue moon is the last of four full moons in a season when there are usually three. A fairly rare event, hence the expression "once in a blue moon". This one is also a 'supermoon' which is when it is orbiting closer to Earth and appears slightly larger in the sky.
A clear night last night so I nipped out the back garden for a quick hand held shot of it.

Actually it looks like a broccoli/cauliflower hybrid, writ large.
I asked around for answers as to what this is called.
Mary says “Crepe myrtle.”
Tom says: Melaleuca linariifolia. Also known as Paperbark or "snow in summer" tree. www.marinatreeandgarden.org/treelist/melaleuca_l.html
Actually taken by my glamorous assistant: David Fryer-Winder, on my instruction with focus/framing. Take a look at his stream if you get chance:)
Taken climbing on a haystack on a friends farm.
Actually, a young looking Australian reed warbler, having a fine time singing in the water-lily pads. I could hear this little guy for twenty minutes or so before the head suddenly popped up!
Actually, I now believe this may be a Yellow Warbler. Due to two great Flikrites I actually did some looking in my bird book and came up with my best guess. I do at least know that it is not a Goldfinch. Cute though.
Three into one won't go!
Actually the female in the front had spent some time right down the bottom of the nest. Whether she had laid an egg or not, I don't know. Then, while she was having a little break to stretch her legs, the other pair moved in. Duck No 1 was distraught, and loudly complained before flying in to what she thought was her nest. But she just didn't have the numbers, and lost that round.
Eventually they all flew off, leaving the nest unguarded for whoever else might fancy it.
And here was I thinking wood ducks were the most peaceful non-aggressive birds on the reserve.

I actually took this (and a few other ornaments) to the beach but it was so overcast that I decided not to take photos. So they got a trip out, and a walk along the beach.
When I got back to town it was nicer, so I went to a park and had a little photo shoot there instead :-)
So I looked through my photostream today and saw how many beach related photos I've got. And at least a quarter of the 'non-beach related' ones actually were taken on the way too, from, or next to, a beach!
All these lovely little purple shells were found and carefully collected by me at Himatangi beach, NZ.
Another couple of shots of these purple shells

Actually not Elephant Ears at all, but Taro plants, which love it along the swampy shore of Lake Verret!
Well, after doing some research, I don't think these are Elephant Ears at all, but a close cousin, called Taro. Don't confuse the two, as one (Elephant Ear) is poisonous and the other is completely edible. Check out the link below...

Actually, there were several rocks which had been spray painted by city power crews. Sorted through them to find the one I liked the most, because that's the sort of idiotic stuff you do for Iron Photographer. Right?
Actually it no longer acts as a train station. It now is a meeting venue, a hotel, and has other attractions, in Saint Louis, MO. USA
