The rain opened the possibility of raindrop abstracts! In the morning, of course! Here we have multiple repetitions of the wet palm tree trunk! Three more images will follow as part of the raindrop abstract series...

Pathstract.
Monday morning I woke to rain ~ hooray! Raindrops hanging from the railings on the balcony, roof tiles soaking wet, and sidewalk shiny. Before breakfast I stepped outside to my balcony to see what I could see before the wet dried up!

Intriguing Water Inspired Abstracts
Taken on a evening boat ride off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. It was too bumpy and the light was disappearing too fast to get any shot in focus, so I decided to use that to my advantage and shoot the waves passing the boat. We were doing around 7 knots, the exposure was 1.3 secs. I was very pleased with a couple of the resulting shots.

Technical: Nikon D3x. CPL, 4 stop ND
The setting of this abstract is a small Scottish stream heading into Loch Clair. I had noticed some wonderful ice patterns by the banks and on some rocks, however no direct light was available to bring the scene to life.
The next day was different (as often is the case) and I had my fun with compositions I had rehearsed the day before. But then, I saw this, a beautiful rock capped with star-like ice…at an angle, the sun would just create THE glow. To me it looked more like an ephemeral crystal coated gem. A lot of fun.
The meandering stream had some movement in it and noticed that the sun and water acted in concert in efforts to slowly disintegrate MY subject! Seriously, all of this happened a lot slower than it sounds.
Other than making sure I was set-up to catch the direct light beaming in, well, I had decided not to put boots on, my subject was in the middle of the (not so deep) stream, I needed / wanted to take the shot perfectly top down, my tripod legs were getting in the way…and all of me and my gear was casting shadows.
So, I learned a) that I am more flexible than I thought and b) that my hiking shoes are waterproof for at least as long as I needed. Cable release is cool.
I was very excited after this session and still am.

UFO landing area or Asphalt photograph .
Asphalt has been around for millions of years in crude oil, it doesn't last forever when used for paving roads. Few of us can have missed jolting over cracks and ruts in heavily trafficked roads.
A number of factors impinge on the performance of asphalt. These include its composition and the crude oil source, the type and amount of aggregate used, the presence of moisture, the method of road construction, temperature, and, of course, the volume of traffic.
