Enjoying coffee on a pleasent day!

To truly find peace, we must reconnect with our natural selves. Step away from the noise of everyday life and listen to the subtle whispers of the wilderness. Slow down, breathe in the cool air, and absorb the tranquil beauty of the trees, the silence of the mist, and the secret lives of the creatures that roam beneath the canopy. Here, in this quiet space, we find solace, a place where we can rediscover our own sense of wonder and find peace in the presence of the untamed world around us, as God meant it to be.

Montmartre, Paris, France

Happy weekend 💐

Why, so many years ago, I deciced to darken *some* backgrounds for some floral images. I'm uploading two at once, so I have no idea which will come up first, but if it's the one with the natural background, when seeing an absolute field of Indian Paintbrush, I couldn't distinguish one flower from another. So many flowers have indistinct structure, they blend from one flower to another. I decided to see what I could do with a single Paintbrush, and I'm very happy with it.

However, I do understand that a good blurred (depth of field) can make the subject pop just as well and give a better idea of habitat. Still, the "artist" in me demands a little more skill, and I'm still trying to perfect it by first composing and focusing well. When I return to aloe, you'll see many more closeups with black backgrounds. I like them, and I want you to have something to talk about after I'm gone (not that I'm going anywhere soon so talk about me now if you so desire).

Castilleja, commonly known as Indian paintbrush or prairie-fire, is a genus of about 200 species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants native to the west of the Americas from Alaska south to the Andes, northern Asia, and one species as far east as the Kola Peninsula in northwestern Russia. I have never seen a profusion of these flowers more than in the western half of Washington state and, in this case, at Nisqually Meadow on Mt. Rainier.

Uses: The flowers of Indian paintbrush are edible, and were consumed in moderation by various Native American tribes as a condiment with other fresh greens. These plants have a tendency to absorb and concentrate selenium in their tissues from the soils in which they grow, and can be potentially very toxic if the roots or green parts of the plant are consumed. Highly alkaline soils increase the selenium levels in the plants. Indian paintbrush has similar health benefits to consuming garlic, though only if the flowers are eaten in small amounts and in moderation.

I was out and about near the bus garage - got a snap of this interesting looking character on a bus. Another street technique - I took the garbage man head-on, the girl from the side a little further away and now this guy through a window

This pretty frog has smooth, bright skin, generally green, although there are also specimens that are brown or yellowish. A characteristic trait is the black line running from the edges of the eyes, with horizontal pupils, to the back of the eardrum. It also has suckers on the toes of its front and rear legs.

Its cryptic colouring, blending with the vegetation where it lives, is a strategy to foil predators.

Its area of distribution ranges from North Africa to southwest Europe. On the Iberian Peninsula, populations are concentrated in specific points of Andalusia, Catalonia, the Basque Country and Minorca. This species is quite generalist, living in all types of temporary and permanent bodies of water and a large variety of environments.

They primarily feed on insects as adults, while the tadpoles scratch the surfaces of aquatic plants or walls to absorb detritus, algae, etc.

To attract females during the reproductive period, the males emit their croaking songs en masse. The female lays 140 to 680 eggs in small clusters of 3 or 4, which stick to plants under the water. The tadpoles hatch after 8 to 15 days, completing metamorphosis 2 or 3 months later.

... it's funny how we spend money to have a latest gadget and

then get absorbed in it little realising that we have lost our freedom ... 😊😊

A small seaside village, mostly abandoned in winter, absorbs the last and most beautiful light of the day shortly after sunset. I've shot this scene a number of times from different vantage points along the opposing shore, but the changing light is what makes the difference each time.

Testing a Konica C35 FD with the glorious Hexanon lens. I bought this copy on-line ex-Japan and it was described as “mint” but sadly that wasn’t the case. I did get a partial refund because it’s clearly taken a knock and the range finder doesn’t work either. The lens isn’t as sharp as it should be either, but using zone focus at f8 or f11 and the results weren’t too bad.

I notice this clump of maple leaves in the midst of changing their colors, the edges have turned red but the center of the leaves remained mostly green.

Like a bouquet of flowers.

"As days get shorter and colder in autumn, chlorophyll molecules break down and leaves lose their green color. Some leaves begin to look yellow or orange because they still contain pigments called carotenoids.

But red is special because some plants (including maples) actually produce new pigments, called anthocyanins but it's actually strange because it takes a lot of energy to make anthocyanins.

It was found that plants that can make red pigments continue to absorb nutrients from their leaves.

When chlorophyll breaks down, a plant’s leaves become vulnerable to the sun’s harsh rays. By turning red, plants protect themselves from sun damage. They can continue to take nutrients out of their dying leaves."

Once I finally managed to tie my boot laces this morning, I headed up to Meaher State Park for a couple of early morning hours before the heat index topped 100°...it was likely the last hike before my surgery and probably the last for quite some time...I was glad to encounter this guy while there!

At dawn, the plants appear occasionally covered by a thin drops which are known as dew. This is one of several events related to the condensation of water vapor accumulated in the air.

The amount of water vapor present in the atmosphere can not exceed a maximum value, because when the water passes the liquid phase is exceeded. Furthermore, the amount of water that can absorb a mass of air increases according to the temperature. Early in the morning, the air is colder, representing a loss of the ability of air to hold water vapor. This is condensed and dew appears.

This young lady was brilliant, elegant, talented and gracious. The best I have ever seen.

There were moments that she was lost in a world of her own, oblivious of the public...

I found out that her name is Lisa Lottie.
