A guided visit to the wine cellars is like you enter a vault with precious wines. Cistercian-style cellars from the 12th, 14th and 16th centuries extend under the Château and its outbuildings and can hold up to 800,000 bottles and more than 2,000 oak barrels.

Afterwards some "Degustation", wine tasting, while the guide talks on and on. Ask some questions so you'll enjoy your stay longer.

Tulips, rapidly introduced during the sixteenth century into Europe. During the time of the Tulip mania, an infection of tulip bulbs by the tulip breaking virus created much admired and valued variegated patterns in the tulip flowers. The closest available specimens today are part of the group known as the Rembrandts. Fequently depicted in Dutch Golden Age paintings, today the Netherlands still is the major producer for world markets ever since.

Foudre Mercier - originally made to blend a huge batch of wine. Cooper Jolibois and sculptor Gustave Navlet completed after 2 years (1879) of construction, a (5.5high/6.5 meter long) oak barrel (they used 170 oaks), capacity 1600 hl (213 bottles of 75 CL), empty weight 23 ton.

On 7 May 1889 the Foudre Mercier made its eagerly-awaited entrance at the Exposition Universelle1889 in Paris. Drawn by a team of 24 oxen all the way from Epernay, Mercier’s giant Champagne barrel was greeted as a worthy rival to the Eiffel Tower and received a rousing reception from the audience

Mercier anual production was 4 million bottles, enough to share some Champagne at this event. Mercier is a popular champagne and the company, founded by Eugène Mercier in 1858, has always advertised to persuade the masses to drink champagne. In 1889, at the World Exhibition in Paris, Mercier presented a barrel that could hold 210,000 bottles of champagne. In 1900 thousands of visitors to the World Exhibition, with a glass of champagne in hand, were allowed to float above Paris in a large balloon.

Place de Cornieres - medieval centre (est.+/-1250). A very nice square surrounded by medieval buildings with little shops and restaurants - Monpazier/FR

It's nice and quiet at Disney's Main Street USA. A rare photo, almost without any people, of the detailed but also typical Disney architecture.

Main Street USA - designed to resemble the center of a turn-of-the-century typical American Midwest town of the early 20th century. I has a train station, town square, movie theater, city hall, firehouse with a steam-powered pump engine, emporium, shops, some restaurants, arcades, a double-decker bus, horse-drawn streetcar, and jitneys.

In architecture inspired by Walt Disney's hometown of Marceline, Missouri (as in the film Lady and the Tramp).

Often the most special are the animatronics, the lower parts of a figure that has to perform this many times a day without any problems.

Vougeot: Architecture Photography

The Clos de Vougeot vineyard, a highly recognised name for centuries, was created by Cistercian monks of Cîteaux Abbey, the order's mother abbey. The land making up the vineyard was purchased by the Cistercians, or donated to them, from the 12th century to the early 14th century. A wall had been built around it and was finished by the year 1336. The French revolution ended all the ownership of all the vinyards by the church. Nowadays about 80 owners share a part of the vineyard producing Burgundy Clos de Vougeot and Grand Cru wines.

Château du Clos de Vougeot, situated inside the wall, was added in 1551 by rebuilding and enlarging a small chapel and some other buildings previously existing at the site. From 1945, this building has served as headquarters of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.

Oostvoorne: Landgoed Mildenburg - Nature Photography

The "Landgoed Mildenburg" estate dates back to the sixteenth century. In the course of the 18th century, the Van Leyden van Leeuwen family built a country house and laid out the surrounding landscape still visible today. In even included a lighthouse and In the southwest corner of the site a variant of a starry forest with avenues and wooded areas, a copy of the labyrinth at Versailles according to an image by Charles Perrault from 1679.

The house has since been demolished and the garden has become a wilderness. Nowadays the estate is a monument and a beautiful nature reserve and managed and maintained by the Zuid Hollands Landschap. What remains for visitors is to enjoy the remaining walking routes with majestic lanes through a beech forest with many traces of the former park along the Dunes of Oostvoorne. Visitors might also like an unique Stinsenplant garden and many other features of this park.

Chateau des Milandes - Freda Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975), naturalized as Joséphine Baker, was an American-born French dancer, singer and actress. Her career was centered primarily in Europe, mostly in her adopted France. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture. During her early career, Baker was among the most celebrated performers to headline the revues of the Folies Bergère in Paris with her costume, consisting of only a short skirt of artificial bananas and a beaded necklace. She became an iconic image and a symbol both of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties.

She raised her children in France at Chateau des Milandes. She aided the French Resistance during World War II and awarded the Resistance Medal by the French Committee of National Liberation, the Croix de Guerre by the French military, and Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur by General Charles de Gaulle.

On November 30, 2021, she was inducted into the Panthéon in Paris, the first black woman to receive one of the highest honors in France. As her resting place remains in Monaco Cemetery, a cenotaph was installed in vault 13 of the crypt in the Panthéon.

Service buildings in brick and stone flanking the avant-cour. Vaux-le-Vicomte was originally planned to be constructed in brick and stone, but after the mid-century, as the middle classes began to imitate this style, aristocratic circles began using stone exclusively. Rather late in the design process, Fouquet and Le Vau switched to stone.

Details

Vaux-le-Vicomte (Est.1658) - a baroque French château on a 33 hectares (100 acres) estate with formal gardens along a three-kilometer axis. Built between 1658 to 1661 as a symbol of power and influence and intended to reflect the grandeur of Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV.

The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. The architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on this large-scale project. This marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. Their next following project was to build Versailles.
