The village center of Sarlat, a very nice historical area with lots of medieval architecture in little streets and alleys in the old city center. This type of medieval houses have half-timbered facings, wooden corbels and the old roof is tiled with "lauzes", flat limestone typical for the Périgord.

Sarlat-la-Caneda - One of the most prominent villages in the Dordogne region is Sarlat-la-Canéda. A very popular destination in the Périgord Noir, maybe because modern history has largely passed it by. Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. The old centre consists of impeccably restored stone buildings, with 77 protected monuments it's on France's tentative list for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Largely car-free with lots of narrow ancient streets and small stores, an absolute pleasure to walk through and to discover.

Twickel country estate - Landscape
Twickel is a protected historic country estate with 81 complex parts near Delden in the hamlet of Deldeneresch, in the municipality of Hof van Twente in the province of Overijssel in The Netherlands. The estate dates back to the 14th century. The moated castle with early Renaissance style traces forms the center, the various surrounding farms are part of Twickel, they can be recognized by the white shutters with black edges.
Besides the woods and fields around the castle, Buitenplaats Twickel, the castle and gardens, vegetable gardens are often visited by day trippers. In the orangery, where citrus trees hibernate, there is a tearoom in the summer months. The stables and coach house in the forecourt are open on Open Monument Day, as well as the De Breeriet landscape park.

Minckelers statue - inventor of "eternal" gaslight. On Maastricht's market square stands a statue (Est. july 10, 1904) of Jean-Pierre or Jan Pieter Minckelers (also Minkelers, Minckeleers) (1748-1824), a Dutch academic and inventor of coal gasification and illuminating gas and as the first to do this at a practical scale.
The invention was a result while searching for the best gas for balloon purposes, in the early 1780's gas filled Montgolfier balloons were widely used. The statue carries an "eternal" gas light. For sustainability and budget reasons, the "eternal" flame only burns via a programmed time clock during the evening, holidays and the whole month of December.

Steam engines - very impressive!. Many historic steam engines, impressive, large and hissing, and beautifully lit in the evening. Not only were they parked somewhere but they also drove around the old city center which got a lot of attention from the public. The sound of the steam whistles has long been the typical sound for another summer edition of the Vestingdagen event.

The station building is richly decorated, with a landing and large overhanging roof with chalet-style wood ornaments, constructed from approximately 300,000 bricks with distinctive horizontal patterns. The name "Rijksmijn Baron 1898" is placed above the door. Next to the station building is a 22 meter high chimney and an enormous shaft tower with the characteristic large wheels for the mine lift.

Oostvoorne - Architecture
Oostvoorne - a nice town surrounded by a large countryside and several nature reserves and dunes, since 1980 part of the municipality of Westvoorne. In the centre of Oostvoorne are the ruins of a motte-and-bailey castle, built around the second half of the 12th century by the Lords of Voorne, which also served as a residence for Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut (Jacoba van Beieren). Oostvoorne was since before World War II the only location in the Netherlands were automobiles were permitted on the beach. In 1992 it was proposed to close the beach to cars resulting in consultations and negotiations lasting many years. The provincial government finally decided to close it permanently in 2004.

Thermes de Spa - in the 16th century, the commercialization of the thermal baths began and many spa guests came to Spa. The first bathing establishment was built in 1764 and the city became known as a health resort. A health resort (German: Kurort, English: spa) is a tourist resort that focuses on relaxation and recreation, but with a medical emotional value. A stay in a spa is considered beneficial for health due to medicinal springs, in this case the iron and carbonated water of the thermal baths of Spa, but also the healthy air. In Nivezé there are three springs of which the water is used for the thermal baths of Spa: Marie-Henriette spring, Tonnelet spring and Wellington spring. The term Spa has become a generic term for spa tourism in English and some other languages.
In 1764, the first bathing establishment was built in Spa and the city became known as a health resort, so in 1774 the second casino in Europe was also opened. A grenade impact in the facade of the house at the "Fransche Molen" (Est. 1804) as a result of the liberation of Valkenburg in WW-II in September 1944. The large hole is still clearly visible, the soft marlstone may must have absorbed the impact that preserved the house. The fleeing Germans had severely damaged Valkenburg, blew up houses, buildings and bridges. Deep in this still visible deep scar from the Second World War is now a small statue of Saint Mary.
During WW-II, Valkenburg was like a German center with various headquarters of the feared units such as the SS and Wehrmacht. There was even a large elite boarding school for privileged boys and girls who were to lead the intended German Third Reich. As it turned out, it was a crual German occupier, instigator of WW-II with a legacy of persecution, mass murders by the millions, many war crimes and atrocities that are indelible in history.

In the basement of this house, Spanish merino wool was washed and dyed using lime-free water. Spinning and weaving took place within the pre-industrial publishing system by homeworkers. Architecture that's build to withstand time. With grapevines above the pale blue colored doors, the nice shutters at each window, even the stones used to build the walls. It looks so very nice, fresh and friendly with an age back in history. Wouldn't we all be very proud and happy to be living in a house situated, decorated and designed like this? We like and will preserve it in time, I can't imagine it will be the same for our modern type of houses.

One of the Travers le temps sections. Vintage shops, facades and decorations constructed just like how it was in the early beginning of modern-day Paris. Nice vintage posters decorate the walls, the few streetlights illuminate the scene. Even the train accident at the Montparnasse trainstation can be seen.

At this location a group of five dolmens (D21, D22, D23, D24 and D25) located near the place Borger - Bronneger in the province of Drenthe. Dolmen D21 contained most of the archaeological finds dated to 3400 BC. It is also the most photogenic dolmen due to the huge beech tree. Also a short distance away are two burial mounds from the Bronze Age.

De Hondsrug UNESCO Geopark - Hunebed (Dolmen) - a megalithic burial chamber from the Neolithic (4000-3000 BC) of the Trechterbeker (Funnelbeaker) culture. As a portal grave built from huge stones that were dragged along by the ice from southern Sweden and Finland during the Ice Age for about 150,000 years. There are 52 dolmens in Drenthe and two in Groningen and traces of dolmens have been found in at least thirty other places, but without the large stones. Originally there would have been at least 88 dolmens in the Netherlands.

UNESCO Geopark de Hondsrug - the only European Geopark in the Netherlands, a landscape with ridges and valleys that originated in the Ice Age about 150,000 years ago. Known for the various Dolmens from the Neolithic and burial mounds dating from the Bronze Age. In 2016, the Hondsrug was added to Unesco Geopark areas.
Mushrooms at the Mildenburg Estate. The protected dune and nature reserve is exceptionally rich in many types of mushrooms in autumn. The many mushrooms are the most special characteristic of this area in the autumn season.

Landgoed Mildenburg - originally the estate dates back to the sixteenth century. In the course of the 18th century, the Van Leyden van Leeuwen family built a country house as a country house and laid out the woods. The house has since been demolished and the garden has become a wilderness. But the estate is now a beautiful nature reserve and managed by the Zuid Hollands Landschap. There are marked walking routes over the old oak avenues, through a beech forest, over the dunes and along a Stinsenplant garden.

The Vestingdagen (Fortress Days) in Hellevoetsluis, an annual multi-day event since 1979. Very popular and with lots of activities in and around the former naval base of the Netherlands. With many historic and vintage ships and vehicles, steam engines, fair and market, various types of demonstrations in the air and ofcourse on the water. Also, lots to do like short boattrips, visit the various musea, watch the naval parade and fireworks show late at night. With about 200.000 visitors in total a well attended event.

The Tram Museum Rotterdam is a museum about the history of public transport in Rotterdam. The museum is located in the former Hillegersberg depot of the Rotterdam Electric Tram (RET) on the Kootsekade in the city of Rotterdam Hillegersberg. The museum gives a representative picture of the tram types that ran in Rotterdam. There is also a workshop where museum trams are restored and maintained. In addition, they provide tours through the Rotterdam city center while enjoying a drink, snack, some music and everything that can be seen along the route. The Rotterdamse Electrische Tram (RET) was founded on October 15, 1927. Its founding came about after a decision by the Rotterdam city council to take over the operation of the trams in the city from the Rotterdamsche Tramweg Maatschappij (RTM).
