Last sunrise on the old trusted berth. The last sunrise for the Noordhinder on this old trusted berth. It is the day of the relocation to the new Koningskade also in Hellevoetsluis. A beautiful fresh sunny day to festively welcome the Lightship in the historic naval harbor where she will become a real maritime attraction together with other historic ships and the dry dock.

Lichtschip 12 De Noord-Hinder - Relocation
This Lightship (Est. 1963) is the last lightship built in the Netherlands. On March 21, 1994, this last Dutch lightship was definitively taken from the sea and is now a museum ship in Hellevoetsluis. The all orange ship in maintained by a group of passionate volunteers keeping the ship in authentic state. The ship has been in service at several places on the North Sea off the Dutch coast and is still well known to many shipping crews.
The Noord-Hinder is 45.4 meters long, 8.35 meters wide, draft 3.2 meters, displacement 510 tons and was equipped with a few small diesel engines. The light, in an 18-meter tower above sea level, had a range of 27 nautical miles. The light from the 4,200-watt lamp was amplified by a Fresnel lens and emitted 2 flares every 10 seconds. It was also equipped with a radar beacon and fog horn.

Castrum - The village Pays-de-Belvès used to be called Belvès, it's fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategic position and came to be known as the "Pope’s city" as it was under Clement V protection. Belvès still bears witness to a tormented past with fortified walls, a castrum (fortified camp), an 11th century auditeur’s tower, 14th-15th century castle and belfry, city hall tower, covered market, hotel with a Renaissance façade and even some ancient troglodyte dwellings. It has been designated as one of the most beautiful towns in France with impressive panoramic views on top of a hill, enough reason to be member of the "Plus Beaux Villages de France".

Hellevoetsluis - Fortresse Holland - Droogdok Jan Blanken
Droogdok Jan Blanken - the Dry dock Jan Blanken is a national monument built for the Dutch navy between 1798 and 1822 (architect Jan Blanken) in Hellevoetsluis for the construction and maintenance of ships. Equipped with new techniques such as a pump house (rebuilt in 2001, now a restaurant) with a James Watt steam engine and hundreds of piles were driven into the ground for the dock foundation. The dock has a ship door (type of lock, French invention), and devided in a maintenance and construction section, the walls of which are constructed as an amphitheater to facilitate easy ship maintenance. The naval frigate Euridice was the first ship to be docked.
After the departure of the Dutch Navy until 1970, in operation, completely restored in 2005, and now a museum with the still fully functioning dock for maintenance on ships.

I noticed almost every house isn't equal to the ones next to it. This results in a very nice variety of architecture making it easy to remember where you are. I think it's a healthy way to live because it gives the inhabitants a way to express a unique identity. For others a unique way to be remembered by.
This kind of communities are nowhere near to the modern way of living. With endless rows of equal houses, many even stacked several floors high where the most don't actualy know their nextdoor neighbor.
So it's a feast for me be in Monpazier, my greedy eyes direct my camera where to go click after click. For some photos I add my own bit of bricolage, creating perfect views of places where many of us dream to live.

This picturesque small village is one of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" villages, said to be one of the most atractive in southwest France.

Esterenburg Farm, one of the many historical sites and structures at the Voorne-Putten region. This monumental farm dates back to 1738. Nowadays it's almost a view back into history, over time nothing or very little has changed and only those with a sharp eye see what brings this farm into today's time.
In history it was originally a farm and owned by a wealthy family, who leased the use of the land and the building to a farmer. Because the owner sometimes stayed on the farm in the summer, such a farm could be given the character of a country estate. The Esterenburg is one of the most authentic farms in the region.

Haringvlietdam
Haringvlietdam (Est. 1971) - the Haringvliet sluices are a construction that closed off the estuary of the Haringvliet, Netherlands, as part of the Delta Works. Instead of damming 17 sluices were constructed in order to be able to let in salt water to prevent freezing of the rivers Meuse and Rhine and to drain these rivers in case of flood. The sluices have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction.
There are plans to open several sluices permanently to restore the estuary function of the Haringvliet and to improve the ecological situation in the river Meuse and Rhine. It will allow the return of brackish water and the main route for migrating fish.

The Vestingdagen (Fortress Days) in Hellevoetsluis, an annual multi-day event since 1979. Very popular and with lots of activities in and around the former naval base of the Netherlands. With many historic and vintage ships and vehicles, steam engines, fair and market, various types of demonstrations in the air and ofcourse on the water. Also, lots to do like short boattrips, visit the various musea, watch the naval parade and fireworks show late at night. With about 200.000 visitors in total a well attended event.

Twickel country estate - Landscape
Twickel is a protected historic country estate with 81 complex parts near Delden in the hamlet of Deldeneresch, in the municipality of Hof van Twente in the province of Overijssel in The Netherlands. The estate dates back to the 14th century. The moated castle with early Renaissance style traces forms the center, the various surrounding farms are part of Twickel, they can be recognized by the white shutters with black edges.
Besides the woods and fields around the castle, Buitenplaats Twickel, the castle and gardens, vegetable gardens are often visited by day trippers. In the orangery, where citrus trees hibernate, there is a tearoom in the summer months. The stables and coach house in the forecourt are open on Open Monument Day, as well as the De Breeriet landscape park.

Sparrowhawk
After taking cover from the rain I ventured out and found this juvenile Sparrowhawk feeding on a feral pigeon under the canopy of a tree. The light was duller than ditch water and for a bird that was frantically feeding I did not expect to get many sharp shots. Fortunately raptors like many other birds tend to look up and hold still for a fraction of a second to survey their surroundings, enabling the opportunity to make an image. This bird was eventually disturbed by a dog which ran at it. Anyway I have finally got the ubiquitous Sparrowhawk feeding on prey image that I have wanted for a long time. I would now like an adult doing the same...in better light!
I'd also like an 800mm lens and a full frame camera...but alas it ain't gonna happen :( My motto...make do with the best you have, try not to lust over gear and enjoy the birds:) and don't get anal about pixels...life's too short:)
You would just pass by the small medieval village of Berbiguières. However, the village is full of peace and serenity, the landscape is beautiful. A small church where the dry sounds of the church bells sound every hour.

Berbiguières - Architecture
Château de Berbiguières (Est. 12th to 17th century) - a somewhat hidden castle in the Périgord Noir in the small mainly medieval village of Berbiguières. The castle was classified as a historic monument in 1948.
In the second half of the thirteenth century, Château de Berbiguières was owned by the Castelnau family, who also owned the Château de Castelnaud. In 1365, Magne de Castelnau married Nompar de Caumont. Special because later François de Caumont built Château des Milandes around 1489, the main house of the lords of Caumont, who preferred to live in this manor house instead of the large, uncomfortable medieval castle of Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle..
