Last sunrise on the old trusted berth. The last sunrise for the Noordhinder on this old trusted berth. It is the day of the relocation to the new Koningskade also in Hellevoetsluis. A beautiful fresh sunny day to festively welcome the Lightship in the historic naval harbor where she will become a real maritime attraction together with other historic ships and the dry dock.

Lichtschip 12 De Noord-Hinder - Relocation
This Lightship (Est. 1963) is the last lightship built in the Netherlands. On March 21, 1994, this last Dutch lightship was definitively taken from the sea and is now a museum ship in Hellevoetsluis. The all orange ship in maintained by a group of passionate volunteers keeping the ship in authentic state. The ship has been in service at several places on the North Sea off the Dutch coast and is still well known to many shipping crews.
The Noord-Hinder is 45.4 meters long, 8.35 meters wide, draft 3.2 meters, displacement 510 tons and was equipped with a few small diesel engines. The light, in an 18-meter tower above sea level, had a range of 27 nautical miles. The light from the 4,200-watt lamp was amplified by a Fresnel lens and emitted 2 flares every 10 seconds. It was also equipped with a radar beacon and fog horn.

Rockanje: Strypemonde Nature reserve
A nice walk on this 100-hectare Strypemonde estate leads you through a beautiful varied forest and past a flowery forest meadow and many special trees, such as the Metasequoia Glyptostroboides and exotic oaks. The former owners of the then 2000 hectare estate were shipowners, they brought many cuttings and seeds from abroad and they still grow here. The area is also rich in tawny owls, long-eared owls and woodpeckers and you will find many mushrooms in the autumn.
The name Strypemonde comes from a wide creek, the Strype, which flowed into the sea here in the Middle Ages and which was later dammed. The hunting lodges Olaertsduin and Strypemonde (anno 1930) are national monuments and the Schaapskooy is a municipal monument.

Hellevoetsluis - Fortresse Holland - Droogdok Jan Blanken
Droogdok Jan Blanken - the Dry dock Jan Blanken is a national monument built for the Dutch navy between 1798 and 1822 (architect Jan Blanken) in Hellevoetsluis for the construction and maintenance of ships. Equipped with new techniques such as a pump house (rebuilt in 2001, now a restaurant) with a James Watt steam engine and hundreds of piles were driven into the ground for the dock foundation. The dock has a ship door (type of lock, French invention), and devided in a maintenance and construction section, the walls of which are constructed as an amphitheater to facilitate easy ship maintenance. The naval frigate Euridice was the first ship to be docked.
After the departure of the Dutch Navy until 1970, in operation, completely restored in 2005, and now a museum with the still fully functioning dock for maintenance on ships.

I noticed almost every house isn't equal to the ones next to it. This results in a very nice variety of architecture making it easy to remember where you are. I think it's a healthy way to live because it gives the inhabitants a way to express a unique identity. For others a unique way to be remembered by.
This kind of communities are nowhere near to the modern way of living. With endless rows of equal houses, many even stacked several floors high where the most don't actualy know their nextdoor neighbor.
So it's a feast for me be in Monpazier, my greedy eyes direct my camera where to go click after click. For some photos I add my own bit of bricolage, creating perfect views of places where many of us dream to live.

It almost didn't change in the past centuries, a medieval town square lined with an arched arcade, a 16th-century covered market, three of the original six rampared city gates remain and many other traces of medieval history. This picturesque small village is one of the "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" villages, said to be one of the most atractive in southwest France.

The bike of the hat shop owner is all about simplicity. It's clear his work travel is less then a few miles, no traffic jams, no luggage, no rush, no super gears and it looks like the bike is many, many years old. It might be easy for the man to become over hunderd years in age.

The small village Monpazier, a 13th-century bastide town, founded in 1285 and built by King Edward I of England for trade, commerce and justice.
