Lacave: Chateau de France - History
Belcastel Castle is located in the town of Lacave in the Lot department, in France. At the confluence of the Dordogne and the Ouysse, 150 m above sea level, it overlooks a cliff about 55 meters above the rivers.
The castle consists of a residential building dating from the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century, incorporating a keep from the 15th century. A chapel mentioned in a charter of 1154 but today in the 15th century style is distinct.
Built by Adhémar de Turenne, viscount of the Échelles (898-941), the castle was mentioned in 930 in his will for the benefit of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Martin de Tulle under the name Castrum etiam bellum (“Castle still beautiful”). It's a private property and cannot be visited. Château de Belcastel is situated nearby to the place of worship Église de Lacave and Grottes de Lacave.

Rockanje: Strypemonde Nature reserve
A nice walk on this 100-hectare Strypemonde estate leads you through a beautiful varied forest and past a flowery forest meadow and many special trees, such as the Metasequoia Glyptostroboides and exotic oaks. The former owners of the then 2000 hectare estate were shipowners, they brought many cuttings and seeds from abroad and they still grow here. The area is also rich in tawny owls, long-eared owls and woodpeckers and you will find many mushrooms in the autumn.
The name Strypemonde comes from a wide creek, the Strype, which flowed into the sea here in the Middle Ages and which was later dammed. The hunting lodges Olaertsduin and Strypemonde (anno 1930) are national monuments and the Schaapskooy is a municipal monument.

Belvès still bears witness to a tormented past with fortified walls, a castrum (fortified camp), an 11th century auditeur’s tower, 14th-15th century castle and belfry, city hall tower, covered market, hotel with a Renaissance façade and even some ancient troglodyte dwellings. Hellevoetsluis - Fortresse Holland - Droogdok Jan Blanken
Droogdok Jan Blanken - the Dry dock Jan Blanken is a national monument built for the Dutch navy between 1798 and 1822 (architect Jan Blanken) in Hellevoetsluis for the construction and maintenance of ships. Equipped with new techniques such as a pump house (rebuilt in 2001, now a restaurant) with a James Watt steam engine and hundreds of piles were driven into the ground for the dock foundation. The dock has a ship door (type of lock, French invention), and devided in a maintenance and construction section, the walls of which are constructed as an amphitheater to facilitate easy ship maintenance. The naval frigate Euridice was the first ship to be docked.
After the departure of the Dutch Navy until 1970, in operation, completely restored in 2005, and now a museum with the still fully functioning dock for maintenance on ships.

Maincy: Landscape Photography
Vaux-le-Vicomte (Est.1658) - a baroque French château on a 33 hectares (100 acres) estate with formal gardens along a three-kilometer axis. Built between 1658 to 1661 for Nicolas Fouquet, Marquis de Belle Île, Viscount of Melun and Vaux, the superintendent of finances of Louis XIV. The name means a symbol of power and influence and was intended to reflect the grandeur of Nicolas Fouquet. The château was an influential work of architecture in mid-17th-century Europe. The architect Louis Le Vau, the landscape architect André le Nôtre, and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun worked together on this large-scale project. This marked the beginning of the "Louis XIV style" combining architecture, interior design and landscape design. Their next following project was to build Versailles.

In history it was originally a farm and owned by a wealthy family, who leased the use of the land and the building to a farmer. Because the owner sometimes stayed on the farm in the summer, such a farm could be given the character of a country estate. The Esterenburg is one of the most authentic farms in the region.

I noticed almost every house isn't equal to the ones next to it. This results in a very nice variety of architecture making it easy to remember where you are. I think it's a healthy way to live because it gives the inhabitants a way to express a unique identity. For others a unique way to be remembered by.
This kind of communities are nowhere near to the modern way of living. With endless rows of equal houses, many even stacked several floors high where the most don't actualy know their nextdoor neighbor.
So it's a feast for me be in Monpazier, my greedy eyes direct my camera where to go click after click. For some photos I add my own bit of bricolage, creating perfect views of places where many of us dream to live.

Haringvlietdam
Haringvlietdam (Est. 1971) - the Haringvliet sluices are a construction that closed off the estuary of the Haringvliet, Netherlands, as part of the Delta Works. Instead of damming 17 sluices were constructed in order to be able to let in salt water to prevent freezing of the rivers Meuse and Rhine and to drain these rivers in case of flood. The sluices have two doors each of which the door on the sea side is the lowest. This has been done to mitigate the effect of the waves on the doors and the construction.
There are plans to open several sluices permanently to restore the estuary function of the Haringvliet and to improve the ecological situation in the river Meuse and Rhine. It will allow the return of brackish water and the main route for migrating fish.

Castle Ravesteijn (Est 1250) monument - the first wooden reinforcement was probably built around the year 1100. In 1254 as "Heerlijkheid Heenvliet" of Hugo van Voorne, the first lord of Heenvliet.
The main part, very heavily constructed by 13th century standards, consisted of a donjon with four corner towers and a moat around it. This had both a military and a residential function. The entrance gate was protected with a gate. In the 14th and 15th century, the castle was extended for a more comfortable way of habitation.
After it had been destroyed by the Watergeuzen in the Eighty Years' War in 1572, the castle was no longer restored. However, the cellars of the ruin remained in use for more than a century as a prison. According to some, before the ruin of the castle, the Pastor Angelus Merula accused of heresy has been imprisoned here for a while.

Chambres d'hotes 'Villa Marguerite' in the village of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin. Really nice architecture without the presence of modern architecture elements..One of the many "Chambres d'Hotes" in the Périgord region. Excellent spots to stay, and to discover even more nice places.
It's excellently maintained and restored with respect for the original design. The building appears as it must have been in the past, which makes the appearance timelessly beautiful.

Typically a nice French village a little further away from the tourist crowds along the Dordogne river. A beautiful village with a beautiful abbey, a Romanesque church, a covered market, some restaurants but most important of all an inmense history.

The sound of the roaring 45cc one cylinder engine, the long leather jackets, leather headgear, this time it is a colorful parade of vintage Solex old-timers. It's a nice group of Solex drivers who enjoy a nice trip along the dunes and forrests of Voorne.
They also could have been a group of VW Beetles, Delorians, Zundapp, Porches, historic old-timers or other motorized clubs. Many enjoy one of the many beautiful routes on the island, with enough reasons to use and enjoy... the breaks.

Oostvoorne - The French company Solex became known for the bicycles with auxiliary motors, which it produced between 1946 and 1988 under the name Vélosolex, abbreviated to Solex in the Netherlands. Production of 45 cc clip-on motorcycles began in 1946, a small moped with an engine block that drives the front wheel via a friction wheel. To date, the Solex is still in production and is particularly popular in tourism as rented vintage, easy-to-handle mopeds.
Anemone in my garden in deep colors of blue, purple and red. Fragile to wind but a beauty to see. A very nice flower for some close-up photography. Anemone are called "wind flowers", its name derived from the Greek word anemoi, which in English means "winds".
