Historyland

Historyland, a unique historical theme park and museum in Hellevoetsluis. One with a high educational value. Many themes, from prehistory to the recent past that belong to history, are exhibited here. Mostly life-sized models or even real objects comprise the ever-growing collection. Often with an educational character in which you can even participate actively, such as participating in paleontological excavations or prospecting for gold, make this theme park particularly suitable as a learning environment. The park and a number of buildings offer enough subjects for a nice day with lots of fun but also an educational day.

These French castles are still dominating the surrounding valleys and see every single move at the Dordogne river. Just a little downstream the Dordogne river there's one of it's greatest rivals, Château de Beynac. Upstream the's Château de Montfort. They, any many more castles like these, all took part in many medieval wars.

These castles must have been very impressive during the ancient middle ages but still are today. The beauty of these French castles, these fortresses and castle grounds of medieval times are huge, most of them restored with taste and respect to it's history. Nowadays our precious monuments of European history. The various views of these castles give a feeling of time travel in modern times, allmost unique proof of human medieval history.

Chinese Terracotta army weapons.

.

Some arrows part of the weapons included with in this grave. Most of the figures originally held real weapons, which would have increased their realism. The majority of these weapons were looted shortly after the creation of the army or have rotted away. Despite this, over 40,000 bronze items of weaponry have been recovered so far, including swords, daggers, spears, lances, battle-axes, scimitars, shields, crossbows, and crossbow triggers. Most of the recovered items are arrowheads, which are usually found in bundles of 100 units.

Terracotta Army - L'Armée Terracotta

Exhibition "L'armée Terracotta - l'héritage de l'empereur chinois éternel". It shows items part of one of the greatest discoveries of the last century, the terracotta army discovered in 1974, dated about 2,200 years ago, then ancient China of the first Chinese emperor.

The 8,000 terracotta soldiers were a burial gift for Emperor Qin Shi Huang Di (259 -210 BC). The archaeological site, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, encompasses a stunning 98 square kilometers (38 square miles). As many as 700,000 conscripted workers have worked on the project to recreate the army of the Chinese emperor in terracotta, that is more than have worked on the pyramid of Cheops. Some time after the burial the collection was destroyed and weapons stolen by a rival emperor. The exhibition shows realistic replicas and unfortunately not the originals because they are too fragile to transport.

The Hague - Binnenhof

The Binnenhof - a complex of buildings in the city centre of The Hague, Netherlands, next to the Hofvijver. It houses the meeting place of both houses of the States General of the Netherlands, as well as the Ministry of General Affairs and the office of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands. Built primarily in the 13th century, the Gothic castle originally functioned as residence of the counts of Holland and became the political centre of the Dutch Republic in 1584. The Binnenhof is among the oldest Parliament buildings in the world still in use.

It's almost like with the condenced colors of the past months, a harvest in september when the rest of nature begins to fade into autumn. In all sizes, shapes and forms. They are also called Winter squash, an annual fruit representing several species of the Cucurbita. Harvested and eaten in the mature fruit stage when the seeds within have matured fully and the skin has hardened into a tough rind. At this stage, most varieties of this fruit can be stored or used for decorative and culinairy purposes for months to come.

Delft: Delftblue Mural Art

The "Delftblue Mural" (Est. 2005) - to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Parking Delft, Hugo Kaagman was asked in 2005 to create a mural in the corridor of the Zuidpoort garage.

In the Zuidpoort parking garage, a tens of meters long wall has been transformed into a large tile composition with typical Delft scenes, the Nuna, the Roos mill, the girl with the pearl by Vermeer, the Oostpoort, the van Leeuwenhoek microscope, references to the VOC, the coat of arms of Delft, the Nieuwe Kerk, Hugo Grotius, the murder of William of Orange, Milkmaid, solar car from TU Delft, tulips, Escher, cartoon characters and even a fisherman in a boat. A work of art where you discover a different figure every time.

Many small fishing vessels really add color to the harbour. Many of those in a typical design frequently seen at the Côte d'Azur of the French Riviera. Fishermen still go out to the Mediterranean sea for various catch of the day portions. Overall the harbor looks like time has no great influence, so little had changed because it's almost the same view just like the vintage photos and paintings.

Goedereede

Goedereede - the island of Westvoorne arose around the 3rd century in the area around the Maas estuary. The island was conveniently located along an important trade route to England and the Mediterranean. Numerous merchant ships anchored on this "Goede Reede" and it was soon inhabited by all kinds of merchants and fishermen.

The city received city rights in 1312 from lord Gereart van Voorne and in the fifteenth century it developed into a thriving trading center. It was rebuilt several times after fires and storm surges and conflicts such as the Hoekse and Kabeljauwse quarrels. In the course of the seventeenth century the harbor silted up and Goedereede fell into disrepair, the dilapidated city walls were eventually demolished.

Today, the high monumental church tower is clearly visible in the wider area. This belonged to the formerly imposing Saint Catherine's Church (Est. 1453). From 1467 to 1512, the Gothic church tower was built, which served as a lighthouse and landmark to help ships navigate from 1552 to 1924. The tower is now a monument and functions as a museum, a detached church rebuilt in 1706, reminiscent of the former much larger church with side aisles. Goedereede now has a very attractive picturesque center located on the old harbour, of the historic grandeur of Goedereede is still little to see but it now has the silence and beauty of a very beautiful historic harbor town, a must to be visited.
