This was the day the new building of BBC Sheffield started...

The Safety helmets were somewhere else, loved the placement!

All the rest is in Pickering station, manned by all the volunteers.

Twine is a light string or strong thread composed of two or more smaller strands or yarns twisted, and then twisted together.

Knots are bonds.

Playing with twine, lol.

I mean, at my age? And why not, the creative juices were flowing, you try and stop them! Hahaha

A HOT Sunday afternoon in London.

Taken from The Embankment, the shadow side of the Thames. The London Eye or Millennium Wheel has been photographed zillions of times, I tried to still give it a 'different' twist... my own... a pod and a plane, both in flight,

The Millennium wheel is a massive attraction, a must when visiting the English capital.

The London Eye is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.

It is Europe's tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3.75 million visitors annually.

The structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres (394 ft).

When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel.

The wheel's 32 sealed and air-conditioned ovoidal passenger capsule are attached to the external circumference of the wheel and rotated by electric motors.

The capsules are numbered from 1 to 33, excluding number 13 for superstitious reasons.

Each of the 10-tonne (11-short-ton) capsules represents one of the London Boroughs, and holds up to 25 people, who are free to walk around inside the capsule, though seating is provided.

The wheel rotates at 26 cm (10 in) per second (about 0.9 km/h or 0.6 mph) so that one revolution takes about 30 minutes.

It does not usually stop to take on passengers; the rotation rate is slow enough to allow passengers to walk on and off the moving capsules at ground level.

There are not that many green flowers to be found!

Leaves aplenty, but not blooms.

ARC DE TRIOMPHE. Molucella or Bells of Ireland.

These two stems of Irish Bells seemed to welcome, in the form of an ARCH of TRIUMPH, the three small red roses ...

Moluccella is a genus of annual and short-lived perennial plants native to Central + southwestern Asia and the Mediterranean.

They are tall, upright, branched plants to 1 meter or more with toothed leaves and small white fragrant flowers.

Whether Moluccella is actually a flower or variety of foliage is often open to debate.

In fact, Moluccellais a member of the mint family and has a unique perfume all of its own.

Bells of Ireland, a hardy annual with flowers that never fail to impress, blooms which are the most exquisite shade of lime green.

Since Victorian times, Bells of Ireland have been considered a symbol of good luck - the perfect flower to send to someone starting a new job, or moving to a new home.

The second: TIDDELY-OM-POM-POM... Green Trick ‘Temarisou’...

Bred by Hilverda kooij in Holland, and winner of countless awards is a stylish Dianthus barbatus called Green Trick ‘Temarisou’

First, this is not a true carnation at all (Dianthus caryophyllus) which I thought it was judging by the leaves and stems but rather, it is a Dianthus barbatus cultivar, or Sweet William.

But a Sweet William that looks more like a ball of moss?

As far a cut flower trends go, this amazing new variety is a terrific example of how plant breeders are focusing on new lifestyle flowers that meet the needs of today's new consumer.

Short, modern containers with dense mounds of spiky green is exactly what stylists and hip florists are looking for.

There IS a trend in EVERYTHING!

I had nothing to do with this!

I'd taken them out of the wrap, put them down, set lights up, and I came back to this!

A beautiful curved curl, to me, it looked like it was sculpted?

Curling with desire?

Happy to see me? LOL

Plants are essential to the balance of nature and in people's lives.

The photosynthesis, in which water and carbon dioxide are combined by the energy of light, conducted by land plants and algae is the ultimate source of energy and organic material in nearly all ecosystems.

Photosynthesis radically changed the composition of the early Earth's atmosphere, which as a result is now 21% oxygen.

Plants are the primary producers in most terrestrial ecosystems and form the basis of the food web in those ecosystems.

Nature can be cruel... nature can be wonderful... nature can be creative...

These here are the stems of Narcissus... one... with ATTITUDE and great nonchalance, not a care in the world... whistling???

Deeper, lower, further back in history and time, you see the changes in the architecture and 'style'!

Romanesque architecture is the term for a period style in architecture in Europe which lasted from about 1050 to about 1200.

PYROTECHNICS… THALICTRUM by magda indigo

Doesn’t it look like fireworks?

Thalictrum is a tall, willowy perennial that produces an abundance of fluffy mauve flowers on glistening black stems during the height of summer.

Meadow Rue is perfect for filling gaps in woodland gardens and shaded borders, particularly as the elegant foliage provides an ideal backdrop for smaller perennials.

The foliage of Thalictrum can be added to summer bouquets for a delicate touch.

Unbelievable, but a member of Ranunculaceae, the buttercup family, its common name is Chinese Meadow Rue.

Gorgeous leafage and pretty flowers, it loves moist but well drained soils.

It has lavender-purple flowers, each small flower is held high and is made up of tiny strands, like downy thistles, giving the plant a hazy, fluffy effect.

The foliage is scalloped and lacy looking.

In my garden, it is next to my Peonies.

So, more flowers from my garden...

Boschendal (Dutch: wood and dale) is one of the oldest wine estates in South Africa and is located between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch in South Africa's Western Cape.

The name Boschendal will ring sweetly in the ears of all wine-lovers!

The farm's title deeds are dated 1685.

The Boschendal estate is crowned by the original Cape Dutch manor house, which is open to visitors, together with associated restaurants and outbuildings and visitor attractions.

The vineyards at Boschendal cover 2.54 km² between Groot Drakenstein and Simonsberg, and include substantial plantings of Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc, together with recent plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz.

The winery is noted particularly for its high quality white wines.

I totally agree! Wow.

We tasted some and we found one to our taste that was SUPER.

One of South Africa’s oldest wine estates, Boschendal played an indelible role in the history of the Cape, to which many trace their roots.

The first owner was Jean le Long, one of 200 Huguenots who fled religious persecution in France.

He was granted land by the Dutch East India Company in 1688.

It changed hands many times over the years.

We brought back two bottles, that were a great palatable memory that Christmas and New Year.

This is a bunch to hang up, baubles, hearts and stars in glass, I immediately saw several compositions (in the shop already), had great fun in the studio!

Now, from when I was a little girl, I have always loved red ribbon.

Often it is easier to pin down why you do not like something, I was wondering why this photo was so appealing to me.

Started to analyse and did not come up with a valid reason, except, I love red ribbon, it will have to suffice for now LOL

The red ribbons, and then, LOVE… this month people will gather and give.

I have a feeling that December can also be an ‘emotional’ month, especially when we ponder over the past year…

Christmas and New year, December, a month for giving, the ‘dark’ month, brighten it, give with your heart and not your wallet, it will bring you JOY!

Story in 2

Scheveningen (there's a challenge for you), Holland, is not just a posh and popular beach-resort in Holland, it is also a harbour, for both fishing and industrial, which I always found much more interesting.

It is 'the 'beach' of The Hague.

To protect the lowlands from the sea, many wave-breakers, made of huge boulders, and dikes divide up the different port-entrances.

Clambering over the rocks, looking for shots, I looked across, there had been a stream of people and cyclists.

To my delight this is what I saw, still can't believe it.

The second image: BICYCLHOUETTE...

I did not take many shots that day, just went to give the dog a run on the beach, and feel the wind in my hair and on my skin.

I waited and was rewarded and delighted with, the first one.

Just ONE shot each time, no PS or PP.

I knew I had only taken two shots in all of this scene, because these guys were really shifting it.

The front motorcycle had overtaken my first that was riding on a normal bike, so I took another look through my lens and was thrilled with what I saw, it was quite different, so pushed the shutter, this is the result.

I SQUEALED!

No filters or manipulation. PURE PHOTOGRAPHY!

Sometimes, we get lucky and encounter the unexpected.

St Ives in Cornwall.

After a long 'photo'-walk all along, we ended up on the harbour-wall, it was still lovely in the sun, I'd walked up to the end, to the lighthouse, looked over the side and there I saw THE SEAL!!!

First time ever I saw one in FREE nature, so very beautiful... I felt like jumping up and down, but stayed calm, not to scare it. By now a whole group of people were looking on as delighted as me.

It suddenly snorted and dived under, completely out of sight only to reappear a bit further...

Life can be so wonderful, sometimes through 'small' and surprising happenings.

In our home, we have a cupboard. Nothing extraordinary there?

Except, it is opened only once a year, it is where our Christmas decorations are kept.

I still feel the same excitement I felt when I was a little girl, and I'd climb the stairs, behind my dad, up to the (huge) attic, yes... open 'the cupboard' holding all the cardboard boxes with the shiny glass baubles, the sparkling garlands.

It wasn't heavy, so I was allowed to help, and ooooh, when I opened the first box, I smelled the pine and wax from years past...

Most of the treasures you remember and look forward to seeing again, many are a renewed surprise.

Last Sunday, it was the moment, the tree was put up, the lights were working, the wreath hanging on the door, it was all going smoothly...

Wind and sleety rain battering against the windows, nice and snug indoors, I was slowing down, growing a little tired... when I heard the most heavenly music, voices singing of a Silent Night, I opened the door, three little angels stood there, bedraggled and cold.

I rushed them quickly inside, rinsed off their wings and hung them up to dry.

Made the angels a nice warm drink, in no time, they'd recovered and sang their songs of bells that jingle, chestnuts roasting, some drummer-boy, things in a pear tree?

They helped me decorating in a festive and jolly mood, lighting the candles, arranging the Holly.

One of them felt the feathers, they were dry, they fluffed them up a little, stroked some smooth, time to go...

Two were quick to don their wings, I noticed that one was a bit slower, turned to me and whispered, I've not been an angel for very long, this is my first Christmas, bbbrrrr...

The music echoed in the distance for a brief moment, aaaahhh, what a lovely dream, now I still had to finish what I had started!

I carried on with renewed zest...

And then, I woke up, smiling... when I suddenly saw, where the wings had been drying... three lost feathers...

England... people are scared, parents worry, not without cause, the news is not good...

To see children playing outside, in the city, is a rare sight now!

The streets have gone mostly silent.

Sometimes you get lucky, you'll hear the laughter or tears that come with the joys of having fun with your neighbours instead of just with your brothers and sisters, or just you.

I've often observed these kids from the studio, they are well behaved, somehow they seem to have a preference for that ONE derelict backyard, I wonder what the attraction is?

It's not easy growing up these days, it's not easy growing up in the city these days...

I decided to start yet another series, I find it interesting, it will be ongoing for some time I suspect, lol.

Often it is easier to pin down why you do not like something, I was wondering why this photo was so appealing to me.

Started to analyse and did not come up with a valid reason, except, I love red ribbon, it will have to suffice for now LOL

The red ribbons, and then, LOVE… this month people will gather and give.

I have a feeling that December can also be an ‘emotional’ month, especially when we ponder over the past year…

Christmas and New year, December, a month for giving, the ‘dark’ month, brighten it, give with your heart and not your wallet, it will bring you JOY!

It is early October and we are in Scotland, so the weather is ‘Scottish’… which means, some sun, racing clouds, fast showers, lots of light play on the hills and oooh interesting light.

As we are high up, we are closer to the sky, so; often the top of the hills are covered in eerie wisps of white cloud.

Like a lover’s caress.

The weather doesn’t bother us, we take it as it comes, everything has its charms and moods.

When in The Highlands, you just have to see it with mist and rain.

We stand on the shore of many a Loch , standing silent, stunned by such beauty, which changes by the second! I capture the rain.

This is again how it came out of my camera!

I’m a ‘purist’, lol

Lavender blue Scabiosa, beautifully frilled, a genus in the honeysuckle family (Caprifoliaceae).

Another common name for members of this genus is pincushion flowers.

Scabious flowers are nectar rich and attractive to many insects, including butterflies and moths such as the Six-spot Burnet.

Lucia... THE FEST of LIGHT... by magda indigo

On the 13th of December, in Sweden, the festivities of Lucia Day begin early in the morning, with costumed children bringing their parents breakfast in bed. But the holiday continues, with Lucia processions in schools, hospitals, offices, factories, even on flights.

There are also Lucia competitions, with young women vying to represent their community.

Perhaps the most spectacular of these takes place in Stockholm where the city's Lucia is crowned by the writer who three days earlier was awarded that year's Nobel Prize in Literature.

Symbolising the light of faith and the promise of the sun's return,

Santa Lucia has become a Swedish icon of winter, nearly as popular as Jultomte, the Swedish Santa Claus.

HANAMI... BLOSSOMS by magda indigo

Hanami (花見, "flower viewing") is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers; flowers ("hana") are in this case almost always referring to those of the cherry ("sakura") or, less frequently, plum ("ume") trees.

...Amongst all the opulence, on the grass carpet, you could see that unfortunately people do not experience beauty in the same way, there were blossoms thrown all over the place, I saw two youngsters driving their bikes with their arms up, hitting every branch they could reach, leaving a trail of pink, they had fun...

I don't judge them, remember my own youth, we've all done silly stuff that now, but never anything like this, nothing destructive.

When you look or think back... you shake your head in disbelief... and sigh: why?

Because you are that age???

A broken off branch was left to wilt, I rescued it, it's adorning our dining room table now... not before I had photographed it in the studio, lol.

Whereas in China the cherry blossom symbolises feminine beauty, the feminine principle, or love in the language of herbs, in Japan the cherry blossoms are believed to exemplify the transient nature of life, because of their short blooming times.

Cherry blossoms also symbolise clouds due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life.

... Seen from the outside, the cloister and windows just to give you an idea...

The cloister is rectangular, and on the one side, there are windows… one almost down to the ground.

Apparently, another part was eventually to be added and this was to be a doorway… but now, thick safe glass is set in the arches, I can assure you, it is not for the fainthearted or those suffering from fear of height!

Even ‘mildly, however the views are stunning, the bay, as far as the eye can see, the tide is out, it is the ‘low season’ that means the sea can be out 12 km!

Perched on a 264 feet high rock formation sits Mont St. Michel.

During the seasons' highest tides the abbey is surrounded by water. During low tide the flats provide food for the world's only herd of salt water plant eating sheep ( Les agneaux des prés salés, the meat tastes salty).

Mont St. Michel's tides can rush in at incredible speeds.The tides in the area shift quickly, and has been described by Victor Hugo as à la vitesse d'un cheval au galop, "as swiftly as a galloping horse."

The tide actually comes in at 1 meter per second.

Popularly nicknamed "St. Michael in Peril of the Sea" by medieval pilgrims making their way across the tidal flats, the mount can still pose dangers for visitors who avoid the causeway and attempt the hazardous walk across the sands from the neighbouring coast.

The dangers from the tides and quick sands continue to claim lives.

Mont Saint Michel is a small rocky island about 1 km from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River in Normandy.

The mount is best known for the medieval Benedictine Abbey and steepled church that occupies most of the 1km-diameter clump of rocks jutting out of the waters of the English Channel.

There was a mini pointed cabbage (Hispi cabbage) in the shop…

A creative photographer came along and spotted it, picked it up, turned it around and around, looking at all the beautiful angles… could not resist, saw the potential… and bought it.

Eagerly took it home, into a dark studio, positioned it, switched on the lights, set it it all up beautifully and made a portrait of the mini-cabbage… RESULT! LOLOLOL

Then, cut into a delicious vegetable soup. THE END.

It is always good to drive through West Flanders, through the Polders, through the fertile flat land.

Dotted with small villages, the church in the middle and surrounded with houses.

Like a cluster.

The road is behind the coast and dunes.

We pass quite a few farms and typically, in this flat land, they are surrounded by tall sweeping trees, to protect from the eternal wind.

This looks like a more modern farm built within.

But still, a familiar sight.

It is Spring, the land lies ready.

These images depict the essence of my motherland.

Flanders’ natural beauty is best found in the polders of the Flemish lowlands.

An atmosphere of peace and tranquility pervades.

How I miss it.

It is more than time for me to be back!

On the picturesque Fish-market of Brugge, we meet this weaver from Latvia again.

Last Summer we bought a scarf, pure linen, for Paul here, now we meet him: the creative textile designer – weaver Janis Rozentals

He began his career in the Old Town Riga and for several years wove on the wheeled loom and sold the scarves, all over the world.

Made out of linen, they are beautiful.

He loves Bruges. Of course, we go home, with… yes, you’ve guessed it, another scarf!

HAPPINESS IS... buying art.

This time it was not a sculpture or painting nor design, but GLASS.

For quite some time we wanted to photograph glass being blown by an artisan.

I found Marcel Vlamynck, a master glassblower, and contacted him, he was agreeable and the appointment was made.

The earliest evidence of glassblowing comes from a collection of waste from a glass shop, including fragments of glass tubes, glass rods and tiny blown bottles, which was dumped in a ritual bath in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, dated from 37 to 4 BC.

The transformation of raw materials into glass takes place at around 1,320 °C (2,400 °F) the glass emits enough heat to appear almost white hot.

The glass is then left to "fine out" (allowing the bubbles to rise out of the mass), and then the working temperature is reduced in the furnace to around 1,090 °C (2,000 °F).

At this stage, the glass appears to be a bright orange color.

We enjoyed a whole afternoon, and of course we went home with a piece of glass Art work!

The bottom is hugged by a blackened old branch, very special.

For those who are always cold: THAT IS THE JOB!!! LOL
