So, lets put our minds to it... yes flowers talk to me and I hear them with my eyes, LOL

How this series came about: in the shop, the flower stall, in one of the buckets, on the bottom, one pack of Tulips, no water.... all bent!

I immediately saw the potential.

Many images passed my minds eye.

I had to keep them cool, so they kept their shape, super enjoyed photographing them, making the images come true!

Once in water.... They straightened, the fun was over, now I have the photo's as sweet memories, to share with you.

A Flanders' winter-sunset

I waited a long time for the right moment, was on my way home when I saw this in the side mirror.

I left my car on the side of the narrow road, grabbed my camera.

This is so very typical, the gnarled willows to keep the flat land 'dry', the sky reaching poplars, the majestic elm trees standing tall against the North wind.

In winter the sun just drops, eh?

So, only one negative!

Nikon F4 and 400asa film, scanned from neg and comp in camera!

the Fuchsias are in bloom, the dainty little dancers...

They are doing soooo well.

Fuchsia from my garden. So delicate and pretty and in one of my favourite colour-combinations!

Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees.

The first, Fuchsia triphylla, was discovered on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (present day Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1703 by the French Minim monk and botanist, Charles Plumier.

He named the new genus after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs.

This is one of the varieties, plump, with a red tutu and white nickers? LOL

Like I said, to my grandchildren this was an enchanting and enchanted wood!

They already are quite used to the small digital cameras and how to take photos, now they are more and more interested and more curious in some of the ‘tricks’ and creativity, especially my granddaughter.

After the ‘normal’ shot, with my camera on the tripod and while the shutter was open I moved the camera upwards creating the blur effect.

They thought it was magic!

I like it because it’s such a lovely blend of the autumn colours with the tree trunks so strong.

Each year I buy a few of those expensive beauties to photograph in the studio, same this year, they last forever, I had two varieties, this is the mauve/white, the other still to come.

It is a labour of love for me to find 'different' lighting and angles to bring out their unique beauty, the petals so tightly concentrated in the heart and cascading out in full glory.

Today, the chrysanthemum is a quintessential Japanese flower.

Western-style spray chrysanthemums or yogiku are becoming popular as cut flowers and garden plants in Japan, but respect is still attached to traditional, disbudded types, the big blooms often duo toned, collectively known as kotengiku or antique chrysanthemums.

*Name: comes from the Greek "krus anthemon” meaning gold (bronze) flower.

Today they come in all colours.

*History: The chrysanthemum has been known since before 5000BC in a small yellow form.

*Origin: China and Japan.

*Colours: all colours from white to deep purple, bronze, lime green and brick red – except blue (which are artificially dyed for special events)

*Family: Relatives include Chamomile, Marguerite.

*Varieties: they come in a range of shapes and sizes, including spiders, spoons, buttons and blooms.

*Trivia and Facts: The Chrysanthemum is depicted on Japan's imperial weapons and flag. Japan also has a national festival devoted to the flower (9 Sept).

*Mythology: Some countries (such as Malta) think it is unlucky to have the flower indoors.

It is associated with funerals and All Saints Day.

*Medicinal: Feng Shui adherents believe the chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness to your home. Teas are made with the leaves to help relieve from flue.

Leucospermum (Pincushion, Pincushion Protea) is a genus of about 50 species of flowering plants in the family Proteaceae, native to Zimbabwe and South Africa, where they occupy a variety of habitats, including scrub, forest, and mountain slopes.

They are evergreen shrubs (rarely small trees) growing to 0.5-5 m tall.

The leaves are spirally arranged, tough and leathery.

The flowers are produced in dense inflorescences, which have large numbers of prominent styles, which inspires the name.

I can absolutely see why this is called the 'PINCUSHION' PROTEA.

The national flower of South-Africa.

Protea flowers normally remain closed, (with the style curved, and the stigma within the mass of tepals), until an insect, bird, or rodent disturbs the flower.

At that point, the flower snaps open, the style straightens and the stigma is held some distance above the bloom.

Orchids are truly flowers of superlatives.

No plant family has as many different flowers as the orchid family.

Orchids are among the most highly prized of ornamental plants.

In Mexico the flowers are used symbolically by the natives; each one conveys a sentiment associated with different ceremonies or religious figures.

From the time that orchids were first imported from the Bahamas to Britain (in the early 18th century) these flowers have been cultivated for their commercial value and have been successfully hybridised and variegated.

FLOWERS MY GRANDMA LOVED: PEONY…

She especially love the more common ones from the garden, the dark red ones.

Again, memories very much connected with the fragrance!

The Peony is indigenous to China, but was imported to Japan so early it is difficult to be certain when the transplantation occurred.

It is a perennial plant with single flowers of white, red or pink which are born in late spring.

The peony was originally introduced as medicine. In fact, its ancient Japanese name "Ebisugusuri" literally means ‘medicine from China’.

However, due to its beautiful and now mostly double blooms, in time, many decorative varieties were developed.

In Japanese society, it was seen both as a medicine and a source of beauty.

Cascading gold, the petals of a Gerbera.

Gerbera is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family. It was named in honour of the German naturalist Traugott Gerber.

It has approximately 30 species in the wild, extending to South America, Africa and tropical Asia.

Colours include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink.

The center of the flower is sometimes black.

It is the fifth most used cut flower in the world (after rose, carnation, chrysanthemum, and tulip).

Aquilegia chrysantha 'Yellow Queen' .

This columbine cultivar is perennial that features large, upward facing, fragrant, bright yellow flowers with long, outward curving spurs.

Flowers grow on a long stem above the leaves and have five pointed yellow sepals and five yellow petals with long spurs projecting backwards between the sepals.

At the center of the flower are many yellow stamens.

Aquilegia comes from the Latin word for eagle in reference to the flower's five spurs which purportedly resemble an eagle's talon.

Like I said, to my grandchildren this was an enchanting and enchanted wood!

They already are quite used to the small digital cameras and how to take photos, now they are more and more interested and more curious in some of the ‘tricks’ and creativity, especially my granddaughter.

After the ‘normal’ shot, with my camera on the tripod and while the shutter was open I moved the camera upwards creating the blur effect.

They thought it was magic!

I like it because it’s such a lovely blend of the autumn colours with the tree trunks so strong.

the Fuchsias are in bloom, the dainty little dancers...

They are doing soooo well.

Fuchsia from my garden. So delicate and pretty and in one of my favourite colour-combinations!

Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees.

The first, Fuchsia triphylla, was discovered on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (present day Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1703 by the French Minim monk and botanist, Charles Plumier.

He named the new genus after the renowned German botanist Leonhart Fuchs.

This is one of the varieties, plump, with a red tutu and white nickers? LOL

yes I am a big fan of white lilies...

Lilium longiflorum.

This plant is native to Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers.

We have a family of friends that we visit every year, they breed horses, wonderful people.

They have now made it a tradition that each year, on the day of our return back home, the end of our visit/holidays, they present me with a bunch of freshly-cut Lilies (one of the sons helps on a farm where they grow them for the bulbs!).

It is a bouquet that I can barely hold my arms around, I had to buy a BIG vase and even now, they are split into two displays. Our house is filled whit the fragrance.

What wonderful friends we have all over!

Mono is all about the light, shapes and the textures.

An image is more an abstraction when not in colour.

Zantedeschia, usually erroneously called Calla or Arum lilies (only when big and white), they are not a true lily.

It is named after Italian botanist Francesco Zantedeschi.

All parts of the plant are toxic!

Aquilegia 'Spring Magic Rose & White'.

This columbine cultivar is perennial that features large, upward facing, fragrant, bright flowers with outward curving spurs.

Flowers grow on a long stem above the leaves and have five pointed pink sepals and five white petals with long spurs projecting backwards between the sepals.

At the centre of the flower are many stamens.

Aquilegia comes from the Latin word for eagle in reference to the flower's five spurs which purportedly resemble an eagle's talon.

More Fuchsia flowers from the garden. Another variety, even more delicate, smaller and candy pink!

I don’t have a large garden anymore , some plants are in pots.

Hence all the variations with all my favourites.

Yes, a big favourite place for us in Flanders.

A MUST ON OUR VISIT.

Such a lovely silence except for the rustle of the majestic Elm- and tall Poplar leaves.

Those cathedral like trees (the flat landscape needed these ‘wind-stoppers’), dappled light, and again, the silence only broken by a bumblebee, a bird, a distant moo, the shutter of the camera.

A few miles from Brugge and the coast, you have the small town of Damme.

In the Middle-Ages, this used to be the harbour of Brugge, one of the wealthiest cities in the North.

Due to silt the North Sea is now about 25 miles out, but Damme retained its reputation for good food and beer, wonderful old buildings full of the history of revolutionary Flanders.

Centuries later Napoleon saw the importance of the area and ordered a system of canals to be built.

Today, whichever road you come from, if you want to get to Damme, you'll drive along those beautiful treelined canals.

Here, all the rows of trees, bordering both a cycle/walking path and a bridle path, what an impressive sight.

MUSCARI BLUES… by magda indigo

Muscari is a genus of perennial bulbous plants native to Eurasia that produce spikes of dense, most commonly blue, urn-shaped flowers resembling bunches of grapes in the spring.

This lovely blue is so very cheerful in the winter-awakening garden, THIS IS THE TRUE BLUE OF THESE TINY LITTLE FLOWERS!

The common name for the genus is Grape Hyacinth, the name Muscari comes from the Greek muschos, musk, referring to the scent.
