On my way to the beach, these blue cobblestones were begging me to be photographed, aah, and there was one missing and another pining away, I loved the faint heel print, walking away...

Photographers are always on the look-out, high and low! LOL

Cobblestones are small round (street) bricks used for the construction of paved roads.

Colloquially they are often called 'child's heads'; the name refers to as big as the head of a child.

Major roads were built in cobblestones, to make them more passable than sand or earth.

In earthen roads they fast made deep trails, and they were quickly muddy and 'flooded’ in bad weather.

They are mostly made out of bluestone.

Often nowadays they get tarred over, because the are not so comfortable?

Our famous cobblestones adorn the beautiful streets of Bruges, Brussels, Antwerp.

In European cities such as Budapest, Vienna or Rome, you'll encounter them everywhere.

Cobblestones withstood the ravages of time.

It is amazing that over the centuries they only get more beautiful ...

BACK IN TIME in SOUTHERN ISRAEL... by magda indigo

In the Negev Desert, which is a stone desert in Southern Israel, you have a part, with different coloured canyons, the Pink canyon, the Red canyon, the White canyon, some of them in Timna, where you also find the ruins of the place where King Solomon had his copper mines.

It is an awesome place, hot and silent, with some of the strangest rock-formations I ever photographed.

It was quite a climb down, with all our equipment, it was out of season, we were by ourselves and one evening, the sun, as usual, dropped down quickly, taking with it the warmth, we had waited for the sweet light and on our return almost got lost.

It is a fabulous environment, bright light and deep shadows, again what hits me is the absolute silence, the beauty and the sense of the deeper you go, the more you go back in time, a feeling of eternity came over me...

From jagged, dark granite to the softer coloured sandstone and limestone, these distinctions offer a delightful picture of the desert terrain.

The Spanish love their glazed colourful tiles and use them on floors, on walls, inside and outside, made with great Artistry and creativity, they liven up the place and are part of the architecture.

These were 4 flights of stairs, a real eye-teaser.

Standing in front of it, it looked like a tall wall, I asked a model to go and sit on the first landing, free and comfortable, not posed.

I have it with all the steps, but the place was surrounded by palm trees, it was impossible to get a picture without shadow, this was over the midday= the least favourable moment to take a photograph, so I decided to go for a closer comp.

I'd taken them out of the wrap, put them down, set lights up, and I came back to this!

A beautiful curved curl, to me, it looked like it was sculpted?

Plants are essential to the balance of nature and in people's lives.

The photosynthesis, in which water and carbon dioxide are combined by the energy of light, conducted by land plants and algae is the ultimate source of energy and organic material in nearly all ecosystems.

Photosynthesis radically changed the composition of the early Earth's atmosphere, which as a result is now 21% oxygen.

Plants are the primary producers in most terrestrial ecosystems and form the basis of the food web in those ecosystems.

Nature can be cruel... nature can be wonderful... nature can be creative...

These here are the stems of Narcissus... one... with ATTITUDE and great nonchalance, not a care in the world... whistling???

Lisianthus are also known as Texas Bluebells, Prairie Gentian, or Lira de San Pedro.

Just opened, a small bud, white and purple just on the lips.

Eustoma stems from the Greek words 'eu', which denotes something beautiful, and 'stoma', meaning mouth.

Lisianthus on the other hand comes from the Greek words 'lysis', which translates as 'dissolution', and 'anthos', meaning flower.

Symbolising gratefulness and charisma, this beautiful long stemmed flower in cymes makes a perfect bouquet when wanting to show respect, love, acceptance, and acknowledgement.

I am sitting, contemplating and also cooling down, it is a bit fresher here.

Bit by bit more activity, more people gathering, something is afoot, you can sense it.

More nuns arrive and follow the same ritual as the first, a few more monks, they are the oldest.

The older ones carrying a small stool, that could disappear under the cape.

They are too old to kneel, he is allowed to sit.

A gold leafed book was carried in and put on a lectern, the light from the windows falls on the few ‘decorations’ in this church, (as most of it was lost over all the years for many reasons), the small, delicate cross and the top edge of the missal.

They belong to "Monastic Community of Jerusalem".

I do not know what precisely is going on, however it is interesting.

It is a magic moment, as they all sit in deep prayer.

I am not a religious person; I respect the religions and their followers.

So here I sit, this cannot leave one indifferent, I find it emotional and almost ‘envy’ them for their belief, their apparent peace, their silent devotion and commitment.

I dare not move to take shots from a different angle, my camera, otherwise so quiet, now seems to go off with a huge ‘clack’ whenever I push the shutter.

Originating in the West Indies, Mexico, and Central and South America, the flower is known botanically as Eustoma grandiflorum.

The common name comes from the Greek words lysis, meaning 'dissolution' and anthos, meaning 'flower' Lisianthus is also known as eustoma.

Colours include white, light and dark pink, lavender and deep purple. Double and single-flower varieties exist.

Many people do not know what it is, but everyone loves it!

How this series came about: in the shop, the flower stall, in one of the buckets, on the bottom, one pack of Tulips, no water.... all bent!

I immediately saw the potential.

Many images passed my minds eye.

I had to keep them cool, so they kept their shape, super enjoyed photographing them, making the images come true!

Once in water....

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae.

The fibre is almost pure cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds.

Within 80–100 days after planting, the plant develops white blossoms, which change to a reddish colour.

The fertilised blossoms fall off after a few days and are replaced by small green triangular pods, called bolls, that mature after a period of 55–80 days.

During this period the seeds and their attached hairs develop within the boll, which increases considerably in size.

The seed hair, or cotton fibre, reaching a maximum length of about 6 cm (2.5 inches) in long-fibre varieties, is known as lint.

When ripe, the boll bursts into a white, fluffy ball...

The Oyster mushroom, or Pleurotus ostreatus var. columbinus,BLUE OYSTER MUSHROOMS, they look like part of a Symphonic Orchestra, the Tuba section?

Oyster mushrooms (there are several varieties and subspecies) are some of the most nutritious around.

According to R.H. Kurtzman, PhD., they are a rich sources of high-quality proteins and amino acids, B vitamins, and pro-vitamin D (the vitamin a lot of people are missing these days, as indoor jobs means little sun exposure).

Minerals such as iron and potassium are also present.

The crocuses stand in all their glory, trembling on their delicate stalks, but, it’s fantastic to see them, at last some splashes of colours in the grass.

In some areas there are whole carpets of them, fills me with hopeful expectation of all the things to come, the beauty to absorb and of course eternalise…

I saw them in the grass, probably trampled by dogs or children.

Picked it up carefully and brought it home... to photograph...

I had to hurry because they are iconic out-door flowers! Love the cold and NOT warmth!

It opened up nicely one last time in all its purple and orange glory.

So welcome in December, the fragrance of orange, cinnamon and Star anise, then add some pine from the tree, maybe some candle-wax and all set? LOL

* Star anise is a star-shaped, dark brown pod that contains a pea-size seed in each of its eight segments.

Native to China and Vietnam, star anise comes from a small evergreen tree.

Its flavour is slightly more bitter than that of regular anise seed.

* Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum that is used in both sweet and savoury foods.

Cinnamon has been known from remote antiquity. It was imported to Egypt as early as 2000 BC.

Cinnamon was so highly prized among ancient nations that it was regarded as a gift fit for monarchs and even for a god: a fine inscription records the gift of cinnamon and cassia to the temple of Apollo at Miletus.

Though its source was kept mysterious in the Mediterranean world for centuries by the middlemen, who handled the spice trade, to protect their monopoly as suppliers, cinnamon is native to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Malabar Coast of India, and Burma.

* The "sweet orange", which is the kind that are most often eaten today, grew first in Asia but now grows in many parts of the world.

Oranges are round orange-coloured fruit that grow on a tree which can reach 10 metres (33 ft) high.

Orange trees have dark green shiny leaves and small white flowers with five petals. The flowers smell very sweet which attracts many bees.

An orange has a tough shiny orange skin.

Lily of the Valley,

French: Muguet, lis des vallées

The flower is also known as 'Our Lady's tears' since, according to Christian legend; the lily of the valley came into being from Eve's tears after she was driven with Adam from the Garden of Eden.

According to another legend, Lilies of the Valley also sprang from the blood of Saint Leonard of Noblac during his battles with a dragon.

Other names include May Lily, May Bells, Lily Constancy, Ladder-to-Heaven, Male Lily and Muguet.

Lily of the Valley became the national flower of Finland in 1967.

The Norwegian municipality Lunner has a Lily of the Valley in its coat-of-arms.

It is also the official flowers of many fraternities and sororities.

... an erect low-growing perennial herb of the genus Convallaria (C. majalis) that has two large oblong lanceolate leaves and a raceme of fragrant nodding bell-shaped white flowers.

All parts of the Lily of the Valley are highly poisonous.

The first day of May in France and other European countries is La Fête du Travail (Labour Day). It is a holiday.

Leaving Dunkirk

... The ferry has turned in the harbour, watching the turbulent wake, the ship groans and shudders some.

And then we are once more at sea, the lights of France receding fast, my eyes are moist… can’t see through the lens anymore, must be the wind speed picking up!

We stay out as long as we can, really, till there is nothing left to photograph.

Heading home.

Lily of the Valley,

French: Muguet, lis des vallées

Dutch: Lelietjes van Dalen

Flemish: meiklokjes (Little BELLS OF MAY)

The flower is also known as 'Our Lady's tears' since, according to Christian legend; the lily of the valley came into being from Eve's tears after she was driven with Adam from the Garden of Eden.

According to another legend, Lilies of the Valley also sprang from the blood of Saint Leonard of Noblac during his battles with a dragon.

Other names include May Lily, May Bells, Lily Constancy, Ladder-to-Heaven, Male Lily and Muguet.

Lily of the Valley became the national flower of Finland in 1967.

The Norwegian municipality Lunner has a Lily of the Valley in its coat-of-arms.

It is also the official flowers of many fraternities and sororities.

... an erect low-growing perennial herb of the genus Convallaria (C. majalis) that has two large oblong lanceolate leaves and a raceme of fragrant nodding bell-shaped white flowers.

All parts of the Lily of the Valley are highly poisonous.

The first day of May in France and other European countries is La Fête du Travail (Labour Day). It is a holiday.

Smuggler's Cove in Flamborough, one of our favourite haunts.

Magical place and wonderful people, their catch, mainly crabs and are beyond words.

They also catch lobsters... they go straight to the Continent...

During the week, these fisher folk are working from very early morning, on Sunday, they take people around the surrounding bays, and to view the cliffs like the famous Bempton Cliffs, with all their natural (bird) wildlife, some take people fishing.

Here the skipper eased his boat in with confidence, funny how they spot a lens aimed at them so quickly..

Mind your head!

I remember this being built!

The Van Brienenoord Bridge is an arch bridge for car traffic over the river Nieuwe Maas, which is a major distributary of the river Rhine.

The bridge is located at the east side of Rotterdam.

The bridge consists of two almost identical arches laying parallel next to each other, followed by three bascule bridges.

Every day over 250,000 vehicles cross the Van Brienenoord Bridge, which is part of the A16 highway, the most busy road in the Netherlands.

Bicycles can use the bridges to cross the Nieuwe Maas river.

The Van Brienenoord Bridge is 1320 metres long and ships of 24 metres and lower can pass through underneath it.

The eastern (287,5 m long) arch was built in 1965, the western (305 m long and slightly broader) one followed in 1990.

An average of 140.000 ships pass the bridge every year.

Approximately 500 of these ships require the bridge to be opened, a process which takes 18 minutes.

Suspending road traffic and opening the bridge takes 4 minutes, letting the ship pass takes 10 minutes, and closing the bridge requires an additional 4 minutes.

During this time, road traffic is blocked by boom barriers.

As of November 2005, the bridge is no longer controlled locally but from the nearby city of Rhoon, where the region's Road Traffic Control is located.

A request to open the bridge for shipping needs to be made at the harbour authorities at least three hours in advance.

We were there for 2 weeks and had rented an apartment on the sea-front.

We also had a big terrace, these are views taken from it, the different mornings and evenings

Daily people came to throw their nets and hope for some fish.

The weather is changeable, often starting misty in the morning, the promise of another day in paradise! LOL.

We had visited Table mountain and saw the storm come in from over the sea.

Once safely home, this view awaited us.

But mostly blue skies, sunny days looking towards the other side of the Bay, Blouberg.

Flamborough Head is one of the most spectacular areas of chalk cliffs in Britain, standing 400 feet high.

The chalk was laid down millions of years ago when the last dinosaurs were roaming the earth.

The cliffs are home to one of the largest sites of nesting sea birds in England, boasting a rare colony of gannets.

The cliff top walk is a bird-spotter's paradise, and visitors to the headland include oyster catchers, gulls, eider ducks, and cormorants.

There's also a wide variety of plant and wildlife species.

The one photo is with THE NEEDLE...

As well as its distinctive white cliffs, there are coves, sea caves and stacks along the coastline.

Often trying to see beyond the obvious, not always to everyone’s taste, but, we have to photograph for ourselves in the first place, not ‘cater’ for others?

Oh yes, and then… and then I saw where the petals came from, this stem, half naked… Looked so lost without its petals.

Orange ranunculus, a has-been, still glowing though!

I like it so much I took a very close-up. LOL

AAAH and then... and then I see the final one of ‘the Orange Ranunculus with the fallen petals’… lol
