No matter where in the world you go to: YOU'LL FIND IT.
On doors, on boats, on many things, wood blistered by the sun and weathered by the wind.
Flakes of paint, curled up and exposing the bleached wood.
It often is so very photogenic, and that is why it attracts us .
Many love capturing it.
Have a glorious day and thank you, M, (*_*)

The North-Bay at Scarborough on the beautiful Heritage Coast...
We had missed the sea and needed our 'dose'.
Once there, we spent most of our time at the South Bay, where the fishing harbour and yacht-harbour are, the fair, the beach with the donkey-rides, the more popular part!
The sea was calm there...
After our evening meal, the sun was getting lower, drove to the North Bay... no more beach, just rolling and crashing waves!
What a roar, what a force!
The North-Sea, you could smell it, feel it, taste it, hear it, a feast for the eyes... the light was playing with the waves, JOY!
Yes, came home, ALL the senses well fulfilled!
Have a great day and thank you for your time, Magda, (*_*)

Japanese old wooden houses.
We visited the whole neighbourhood, BEAUTIFUL!!!
Machiya are traditional wooden townhouses found throughout Japan.
This here is in Kanazawa.
Machiya or townhouses and nōka (farm dwellings) constitute the two categories of Japanese vernacular architecture known as minka (folk dwellings).
Machiya originated as early as the Heian period and continued to develop through to the Edo period and even into the Meiji period.
Machiya housed urban merchants and craftsmen, a class collectively referred to as chōnin (townspeople).
There is ONE from Brugge!
Have a good day and thanks for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

Lily of the Valley,
French: Muguet, lis des vallées
Dutch: Lelietjes van Dalen
Flemish: meiklokjes (Little BELLS OF MAY)
The flower is also known as 'Our Lady's tears' since, according to Christian legend; the lily of the valley came into being from Eve's tears after she was driven with Adam from the Garden of Eden.
According to another legend, Lilies of the Valley also sprang from the blood of Saint Leonard of Noblac during his battles with a dragon.
Other names include May Lily, May Bells, Lily Constancy, Ladder-to-Heaven, Male Lily and Muguet.
Lily of the Valley became the national flower of Finland in 1967.
The Norwegian municipality Lunner has a Lily of the Valley in its coat-of-arms.
It is also the official flowers of many fraternities and sororities.
... an erect low-growing perennial herb of the genus Convallaria (C. majalis) that has two large oblong lanceolate leaves and a raceme of fragrant nodding bell-shaped white flowers.
All parts of the Lily of the Valley are highly poisonous.
The first day of May in France and other European countries is La Fête du Travail (Labour Day). It is a holiday.
May 1 is also La Fête du Muguet, and the tradition is to give the ones you love a sprig of Muguet, for good luck and to celebrate the arrival of Spring.
Wishing you well and stay safe.

Some call this Flowerotica?
The human body as a landscape/decor...
This one with green flower-balls, Asclepias fruticosa fruits, they are light and may look spiky but they aren't, no model was harmed during the making of this image, LOL... part of an original set for an exhibition "SALON des DAMES".
SWAN MILKWEED…
Gomphocarpus fruticosus: Asclepias fruticosa is the old botanical name, Narrowleaf cotton bush, Swan bush, Swan milkweed the popular ones.
Inflated green and later light brown, papery pod or follicle; short bristly hair cover the outer surface; dark seeds have silvery cotton wool-like attachments that facilitate wind distribution.
Asclepias fruticosa is a species of milkweed native to South Africa.
Brought this from Sardinia to photograph in my studio… what happened next?
Due to the heat given off by the lights in the studio, the pods started to open and the pod opened and released the seeds.
Hundreds of seeds fluffing from that one pod.
In a matter of minutes all of the seeds floated out of the pod.
Once the process of release started, it could not be stopped.
I loved shooting this small miracle of nature in my studio.
THANK you, M, (*_*)

In the Negev Desert, which is a stone desert in Southern Israel, you have a part, with different coloured canyons, the Pink canyon, the Red canyon, the White canyon, some of them in Timna, where you also find the ruins of the place where King Solomon had his copper mines.
It is an awesome place, hot and silent, with some of the strangest rock-formations I ever photographed.
It was quite a climb down, with all our equipment, it was out of season, we were by ourselves and one evening, the sun, as usual, dropped down quickly, taking with it the warmth, we had waited for the sweet light and on our return almost got lost.
It is a fabulous environment, bright light and deep shadows, again what hits me is the absolute silence, the beauty and the sense of the deeper you go, the more you go back in time, a feeling of eternity came over me...
From jagged, dark granite to the softer coloured sandstone and limestone, these distinctions offer a delightful picture of the desert terrain.
To see them go to the previous separate

Exotic.
MAITAKE...mushroom...
Maitake is one of the major culinary mushrooms used in Japan, the others being shiitake, shimeji and enoki.
In 2009, a phase I/II human trial, conducted by Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center, showed Maitake could stimulate the immune systems of breast cancer patients!
Maitake is rich in minerals (such as potassium, calcium, and magnesium), various vitamins (B2, D2 and niacin), fibers and amino acids.
Grifola frondosa is a polypore mushroom that grows in clusters at the base of trees, particularly oaks.
The fungus is native to the northeastern part of Japan and North America, and is prized in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbology as a medicinal mushroom,
The Oyster mushroom, or Pleurotus ostreatus, both the Latin and common name refer to the shape of the fruiting body.
The Latin pleurotus (sideways) refers to the sideways-growth of the stem with respect to the cap while the Latin ostreatus (and the English common name, oyster) refers to the shape of the cap which resembles the bi-valve of the same name.
Many also believe that the name is fitting due to the flavour resemblance to oysters.
The pink colour will fade on cooking. In fact, cooked oyster mushrooms all look the same, regardless of the colour they started as.
Lead and enjoy a good life, do and say things that enrich... and do not forget to tell the people close to you, how much you love them!
You'll be able to live a life with few regrets!

A stunningly beautiful flower, exotic, well to us, not in the countries where they grow naturally. I always say it, one man's exotic is another man's 'daily'... lol
I again tried to photograph them in the 'style’ that I love so much, a bit moody, dramatic, theatrical, playing with the light and dof.
Over the years I photographed thousands of flowers, with passion and joy, I never tire of them, hope you enjoy with me.
Another day, another flower, another lighting set-up, another composition.
Portrait of a Strelitzia reginae also called Bird of Paradise.
A stunningly beautiful flower, exotic, well to us, not in the countries where they grow naturally.
I always say it, one man's exotic is another man's 'daily'... lol
Strelitzia reginae is a monocotyledonous flowering plant indigenous to South Africa (the Cape Provinces and KwaZulu-Natal), where I saw them in nature.
Common names include crane flower or bird of paradise, though these names are also collectively applied to other species in the genus Strelitzia.
Its scientific name commemorates the British queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
The plant grows to 2 m tall, with large, strong leaves 25–70 cm long and 10–30 cm broad, produced on petioles up to 1 m long.
The leaves are evergreen and arranged in two ranks, making a fan-shaped crown. The flowers stand above the foliage at the tips of long stalks.
The hard, beak-like sheath from which the flower emerges is termed the spathe.
This is placed perpendicular to the stem, which gives it the appearance of a bird's head and beak; it makes a durable perch for holding the sunbirds which pollinate the flowers.
The flowers, which emerge one at a time from the spathe, consist of three brilliant orange sepals and three purplish-blue or white petals.
Two of the blue or white petals are joined together to form an arrow-like nectary.

Wherever we go in the world, it is especially the sea that attracts us most.
We're always drawn to the harbour, not to admire the big luxury yachts, no, the fishing harbour, the working boats, the people, the different methods they use.
The netting depends obviously on the type of catch they fish for. The majority of rigged nets are made to order, allowing fishermen to have exactly the right net for their needs.
Here, in England and the North, the size of the mesh is often bigger than what we saw here in Spain.

Perfect harmony and light.
Dianthus barbatus (Sweet William) is a species of Dianthus, small Carnation, native to the mountains of southern Europe from the Pyrenees east to the Carpathians and the Balkans, with a variety in northeastern China, Korea, and south easternmost Russia.
The flowers are produced in a dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems and have a spicy, clove like scent; each flower is 2–3 cm diameter with five petals with serrated edges; in wild plants the petals are red with a white base.
In the Victorian language of flowers, Sweet William symbolises gallantry.
Sweet William is a good candidate for a naturalistic garden because its nectar attracts birds, bees and butterflies.
Its flowers are considered edible...
I love them because of their unbelievable 'variety', both in colours and variegations!
They last a long time in a vase, real beauties.

just a bit of fun.
Strawberries are at their best in Summer!
The garden strawberry was first bred in Brittany, France, in the 1750s via a cross of Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis, which was brought from Chile by Amédée-François Frézier in 1714.
Cultivars of Fragaria × ananassa have replaced, in commercial production, the woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca), which was the first strawberry species cultivated in the early 17th century.
The strawberry is not, from a botanical point of view, a berry.
Technically, it is an aggregate accessory fruit, meaning that the fleshy part is derived not from the plant's ovaries but from the receptacle that holds the ovaries.
Each apparent "seed" (achene) on the outside of the fruit is actually one of the ovaries of the flower, with a seed inside it.
The entire strawberry plant was used to treat depressive illnesses.
In 2017, world production of strawberries was 9.2 million tonnes, led by China with 40% of the total.
The chilli is the fruit of the Capsicum.

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fibre that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae.
The fibre is almost pure cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds.
Within 80–100 days after planting, the plant develops white blossoms, which change to a reddish colour.
The fertilised blossoms fall off after a few days and are replaced by small green triangular pods, called bolls, that mature after a period of 55–80 days.
During this period the seeds and their attached hairs develop within the boll, which increases considerably in size.
The seed hair, or cotton fibre, reaching a maximum length of about 6 cm (2.5 inches) in long-fibre varieties, is known as lint.
When ripe, the boll bursts into a white, fluffy ball...

AND YET: The dandelion plant is a beneficial weed, with a wide range of uses, and is even a good companion plant for gardening.
Its taproot will bring up nutrients for shallower-rooting plants, and add minerals and nitrogen to soil.
It is also known to attract pollinating insects and release ethylene gas which helps fruit to ripen.

I love photographing horses, not the easiest to do, there are standards, but with the help of the breeders it usually becomes a very pleasant and exciting experience.
Here was a fortuitous moment, as a photographer, yes you have to focus on the main subject and there is MUCH to think about and concentrate on, but as a creative you stay aware of what is going on around you, and these 'off' images often become my favourite shots...
Such tenderness, closeness, emotion, just HAD to be captured.

Table Mountain has its own cloud cover (the Tablecloth), forming rapidly when the wind is in the southeast and is mainly responsible for the lush plateau vegetation.
Table Mountain’s ‘tablecloth’ is an orographic cloud formation (clouds that develop in response to the forced lifting of air by the earth’s topography).
As a south-easterly wind blowing up the mountain slopes meets colder air at higher altitude, condensation takes place and a thick mist soon coats the top-most regions of the mountain.
As the cloud-cover pours over the side of the mountain, the process is reversed. Clouds encounter warmer air layers lower down, where the moisture evaporates, making the clouds disappear.
Despite its undeniable beauty, the tablecloth can be dangerous to unwary hikers.
The cloud often descends rapidly, obscuring visibility and posing a threat to hikers unfamiliar with the mountain.
This is a view taken from the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in the historic heart of Cape Town's working harbour and South Africa's most-visited destination, having the highest rate of foreign tourists of any attraction in the country.
Prince Alfred, second son of Queen Victoria, began construction of the harbour in 1860.
The first basin was named after himself, the second after his mother, hence the name.
The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront development is a renewal project that incorporates much of the historic harbour infrastructure.
As you can see, the weather cadges very fast sometimes.

#AbFav_The_COLOUR_PURPLE_💜
#AbFav_PHOTOSTORY
Purple is a colour intermediate between blue and red.
It is similar to violet, but unlike violet, which is a spectral colour with its own wavelength on the visible spectrum of light, purple is a composite colour made by combining red and blue.
According to surveys in Europe and the U.S., purple is the colour most often associated with royalty, magic, mystery, and piety.
When combined with pink, it is associated with eroticism, femininity, and seduction.
Purple was the colour worn by Roman magistrates; it became the imperial colour worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, and later by Roman Catholic bishops.
Similarly in Japan, the colour is traditionally associated with the Emperor and aristocracy.
The deep, rich purple dye made from a sea snail called the spiny dye-murex became known as Tyrian purple.
The process of making the dye was long, difficult and expensive.
Thousands of the tiny snails had to be found, their shells cracked, the snail removed.
Mountains of empty shells have been found at the ancient sites of Sidon and Tyre.
The snails were left to soak, then a tiny gland was removed and the juice extracted and put in a basin, which was placed in the sunlight.
There a remarkable transformation took place.
In the sunlight the juice turned white, then yellow-green, then green, then violet, then a red which turned darker and darker.
The process had to be stopped at exactly the right time to obtain the desired colour, which could range from a bright crimson to a dark purple.
Then either wool, linen or silk would be dyed. The exact hue varied, but it was always rich, bright and lasting.
Purple, represented royally by this proud Anemone.
Have a lovely day and thank you for viewing, M, (*_*)

An old craft, very zen, tried it!
Not something you see often these days?
Louet wheels treadle lightly, are low maintenance and nearly adjustment free and can be modified with accessories for the expert spinner.
Louet wheels were originally geared towards spinning medium to heavy yarns.
Although bobbins and flyers are available for spinning this type of yarn, the standard wheels have been redesigned to be more suitable for spinning fine to medium yarns.
This type of wheel is powered by the spinner's foot rather than their hand or a motor.
The spinner sits and pumps a foot treadle that turns the drive wheel via a crankshaft and a connecting rod.
This leaves both hands free for drafting the fibres, which is necessary in the short draw spinning technique, which is often used on this type of wheel.
Take care, be safe!
Thank you, M, (*_*)

Coffee and tea and the java and me
A cup, a cup, a cup, a cup, a cup (boy!)…
Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain Coffea species.
When coffee berries turn from green to bright red in colour – indicating ripeness – they are picked, processed, and dried.
Dried coffee seeds (referred to as "beans") are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavour.
The two most commonly grown coffee bean types are C. arabica and C. robusta.
Coffee plants are now cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Africa.
As of 2018, Brazil was the leading grower of coffee beans, producing 35% of the world total.

Mousseron mushrooms are delicious small wild mushrooms from France.
Mousseron mushrooms have a wonderful flavour with a soft and chewy texture.
The smell and flavour of a Mousseron is reminiscent of Porcini mushrooms.
Mousseron can be found growing in groups or clusters called "fairy rings" because of the circular pattern formed when they produce.
A small, bell-shaped wild mushroom with an off-white to beige-brown colour with lacy, deep gills and very thin stems, the mousseron mushroom is rather full-bodied for its size and has a fleshy texture and earthy flavor. Its long, narrow stem is tough, but edible.
Nutritionally beneficial, mushrooms provide a source of riboflavin, niacin, potassium, phosphorus, thiamin, protein, fat, carbohydrates, copper and crude dietary fiber.
MMM, they were lovely!

"In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work.
When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair.
The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.”
—Sol LeWitt.
