While waiting at a traffic light this morning Colby said "hurry up truck!" I replied with ~Colby the big truck doesn't want to have to completely stop so he's rolling slowly until the light turns~ Colby's response was "Lights don't turn Mom, they change." Yep, you're right buddy~

Language to an autistic child is concrete; you can imagine the response I received when I scolded him once with "Buddy, you are skating on thin ice!" ~ Mom, I don't even know how to ice skate!

“Grant made me aware that he believed in me and he was proud of my representation of the Kelowna

Chiefs,” says Mattila, a third-year business student, “I’m very fortunate to have met Grant Sheridan, he was a great owner,

general manager, good friend and mentor.”

Sheridan, Grant: It is with the utmost sadness that the family of Grant Sheridan announces his passing after his battle with bacterial meningitis on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at the age of 47. His memory will be forever engraved in the hearts of his wife of 17 years, Cherie, and his son Tanner; as well as his parents Dale and Sharon and brother Rod; father & mother-in-law Jim and Ann Culic, brother-in-law Chet Culic; nephew Zack and niece Abby Culic. Grant grew up in Grande Prairie, AB, later moved to Calgary, AB to receive his degree from the University of Calgary. Kelowna, BC became his home after university where he met and married Cherie, the love of his life, and together their son, Tanner, became their world. Later, Grant and his partner Brent Peacock founded Peacock Sheridan Group. Grant was an active member of the hockey community where he had an infectious passion for the game. He became the General Manager of the Kelowna Chiefs and mentored many young hockey athletes. His action-packed lifestyle included playing and coaching hockey, snowmobiling, surfing, water-skiing, boating, fishing trips, and Mabel Lake building projects.

Ensuring Medication Safety: The Overlooked Epidemic of Prescription Drug Misuse - CGI U 2013

Every day for the past decade, approximately 6,000 Americans started misusing prescription drugs, and more than one-third of these new users were under the age of 18. Prescribed by doctors and tested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, many people perceive prescription drugs as ‘safe’ and not harmful to share with friends and families. This lack of awareness of the potentially dangerous side effects of prescription drugs—and their escalating abuse—seems to only be recognized in the wake of a tragic outcome. And deaths from unintentional drug overdoses continue to rise: from 1999 to 2009, the number of deaths from narcotic pain pills in the U.S. nearly quadrupled to 15,597—more than those from heroin and cocaine combined. However, there is a renewed focus on increasing public awareness on this issue, and a myriad of new interventions are being developed to identify and support those in need. This panel will highlight successful strategies for combating prescription drug misuse and explore how students can harness their universities’ resources to accelerate action in prevention and treatment efforts on this issue.

This is a suicide awareness poster I created emphasizing the statistic (taken from 2008 data) that every 15 minutes (actually every 14.6 minutes according to the data) an American commits suicide. I wanted to show this through a modified clock that only has the minute hand, second hand, and only 15 minutes. I did not receive permission from the organization named "SAVE." to put their name on this poster, but this was just an exercise like I was creating an awareness poster for them.
