The program is combined with an ongoing health awareness course and educates children in cities surrounding the International Peacekeeping and Security Center on the risk of entering the training area. The program, which is a combined effort between the Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine Civil Affairs Team, the IPSC and local communities, is part of JMTG-U's efforts to increase awareness, mitigate risk and clear training areas of UXO. This week is Deaf Awareness week. In the UK there are almost 9 million deaf and hard of hearing adults of which nearly 7 million are severely or profoundly deaf.

1 in 1000 children are deaf at the age of 3 and currently there are around 20,000 children who are moderately to profoundly deaf covering the ages of 0-15 years old. Only 12,000 of these children were born deaf.

It is important to raise awareness, never underestimate how being Deaf can affect somebody's life. Just learning the alphabet in sign language, or learning how to speak clearly, facing the person you are speaking to, can make a huge difference. Being patient, innovative and calm also helps.

The NDCS have announced that the theme for this year's Deaf Awareness week is "Look at Me".

"This theme aims to improve understanding of deafness by highlighting the range methods of communication methods used by deaf children, such as sign language and lip reading."

The RNID provide a completely confidential "Check your hearing" test. Give it a go, it may be the best thing you did. See www.rnid.org.uk/howwehelp/hearing_check/take_online_heari...

For more information about what you can do to help Deaf people, or where to go if you're worried about your hearing, see the following links:

I took this photo for Ostomy Awareness Day, just to show people that pouches can be hidden. I love my belly bands. This one my super-awesome momma made for me out of an old stretchy cotton t-shirt. We just cut it up, then she sewed it up, and viola! A breathable, comfortable tool that keeps my pouch from bulging under my shirt.

Before October is over, I wanted to post something PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As part of our Knife Crime Awareness Week, Greater Manchester Police officers attended Woodhey High School, in Bury, on Wednesday, 10 May 2017.

Officers gave a presentation to the pupils on the dangers and consequences of carrying a knife.

Pupils were also informed of the 'joint enterprise' law. 'Joint enterprise' is when even if it's not you carrying the knife, if you're with someone who uses a weapon to injure or kill, you too could be prosecuted and sentenced.

Officers also stressed that if pupils had any concerns on knife crime, they could speak to their teachers, call GMP on 101, or call Child Line on 0800 1111.

To find out more about Greater Manchester Police please visit our website.

www.gmp.police.uk

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.

You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.

“… We will continue to work until that’s a reality.” We stand united with the efforts to end child #sextrafficking. Everyone must make this issue a top priority. Our future and our children’s future depends on it.

Not a good start to the winter !! ... Two fatal accidents on the main road through our village today.

We had our first hard frost overnight ~ and we have a thousand new young drivers on our roads

in Norfolk, who have never driven on an icy road !!

This car took the bend too fast, left the road, turned a somersault, and overturned into a tree.

The other accident ( even more serious) caused the road to be closed, and I was not allowed to photograph the scene.

Let us pray that young drivers will calm down, and prevent any further carnage !!

When I was taught to drive, many years ago, ( by an accomplished ambulance-driver ! ) ~

I was told ... "Keep OFF icy roads, if you can . . . but if you MUST drive, pretend that your brakes have failed, and do all deceleration using THE GEARBOX ONLY !!

And that pre-supposes driving at a quarter of your normal speed !!!
