Welcome to the unofficial website of the All Blacks.

This is an all-black, female carpenter bee; not the prettiest of bees despite its rather attractive bluish iridescent wings and shiny, blackish, black-lead makeup - No swooning, please!

Toruń is one of most attractive and historic towns in Poland.

It is famous for being the birthplace ( in 1474 ) of the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus whose epochal book, De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium is universally regarded as the starting point of modern astronomy.

In 1997 the old medieval quarter of Toruń comprising the Old Town ( 1233 ), the New Town ( 1264 ) and the Teutonic Knights Castle ( mid 13th c. ) was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for having preserved almost intact its original medieval street layout. Toruń is full of Gothic monuments of architecture, all built of brick, such as the Town Hall, The Leaning Tower, numerous churches and many burgher houses around the central market square and the surrounding streets.

If you ever are in Gdańsk on the coast, I recommend driving down to Toruń - it's only 2hrs away on the motorway - the place has a great artistic atmosphere and a lively cafe scene.

DAZZLINGLY ATTRACTIVE bird, not often seen in our corner of Kent UK, and was not expecting to see it in the Grove Ferry Feast Hide, but what a joy when it landed, he caught a couple of tiddlers and was off, leaving me with the biggest grin ever.

The attractive but unobtrusive wood warbler is one of the largest Phylloscopus warblers in Europe. It has bright yellow upper parts, throat and upper chest and white under parts.

The species is widespread and numerous in deciduous forest in Europe and reaches its highest densities in the UK in the western oak woods of Wales.

The old town of Innsbruck is extremely attractive and so close to the Alps.

Eurasian Jays are vociferous acorn eaters, although they do enjoy seeds and insects – and that is just what this bird is searching for in a garden in Holloway, Derbyshire. The Jay is very attractive: it’s a blend of pink and brown on its body, and its wings are mainly black with some white patches but with a striking blue-black striped feature which makes them easy to spot in the garden.

Attractive, colorful vireo with thick white spectacles. Note dark blue-gray head, yellowish sides, and bold white wingbars. Breeds in forested areas, typically mixed coniferous and deciduous. Migrants can be found in any wooded area, often in flocks with other small songbirds. Winters from the southeastern U.S. to Central America. Blue-headed is the brightest of the "Solitary Vireo" complex, and usually identifiable by range alone. Compare especially with Cassin's Vireo on the wintering grounds, but note Blue-headed is more colorful and contrasty. Especially look for contrast between the dark gray face and white throat. Some birds are best left unidentified. Song is sweeter and slower than other vireos in breeding range. (eBird)

April is a good time to visit Menorca as the Spring flowers bring colour and before the heat of Summer makes everything so dry.

This attractive diving duck often gathers by the thousands on lakes or bays in the winter. Males have cinnamon-colored head, yellow eye, and gray body. Females are plain brown overall, a lighter blond color than scaup and Ring-necked Duck. Also note evenly rounded head shape. About the size of Greater Scaup, but slightly larger than Lesser Scaup and Ring-necked Duck—this can be helpful when they are together in mixed flocks. Best separated from Canvasback by head and bill shape and male’s darker gray body. Breeds on marshy freshwater ponds and lakes; winters in flocks on any large body of water, often mixed with other diving ducks. Dives frequently to reach submerged aquatic vegetation. (eBird)

A picture from rural Sussex. Sheep grazing in the field near an attractive old tree.

Probably not the most attractive of images up on the power lines but it isn't too often I see three Kookaburra's together.

I am sure you know what they sounds like - www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9HqvXy7wkc

and hearing all three joyously calling is a beautiful thing.

A smile for Sunday.

Species: Podiceps auritus.

Summer plumage.

North-east Scotland, UK.

Arguably the most attractive of the UK's breeding grebes, with its golden ear tufts and trilling calls. It looks similar to the black-necked grebe in winter but has whiter cheeks which almost meet at the back of the neck. Due to its small breeding population it is a Red List species. Info: RSPB.

I always loved the dandelion, especially as a child with its wonderful vibrant yellow colour and in particular when it turned into ball of white fluff that could be blown upon and the seedlings would float away. Not only that, the bees loves its pollen richness. So pretty flower it is then, rather than a nuisance weed.

Attractive scenery before sunset disappears behind the sea horizon leaving the sky and the clouds engulfed in a beautiful orange color.

I just couldn't resist this view of the Blue-headed Vireo. His white eyerings look like a superhero (supervillain ?)'s mask. He is proudly showing off the bug that he has caught.

The large flowers and abundant nectar are very attractive to many species of butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and moths. Many other species will also use other plant parts for food, including the leaves, stems, roots, flower heads and seeds. Seeds are attractive to seed eating birds such as such as the American goldfinch. More information can be found at... plants.usda.gov/factsheet/pdf/fs_cidi.pdf

Small attractive Insect (10-11 mm). Head and thorax are green or blue with a bright metallic sheen.. Abdomen is also shiny and metallic, and is ruby-red.

One of several bright coloured members of the Chrysididae family, sometimes called the cuckoo wasp.It lays eggs in the cells of solitay wasps or bees, where its larva feeds on the host's larva.

Spotted this little beauty on my daily garden safari😀

During courtship/bonding in the breeding season, male bee-eaters offer insect 'snacks' to females. Here on the branch are two males, left and middle (with the dragonfly) and the female to the right. Bothe sexes are alike with this species but females can often be separated from males by body size...but not always.

These migratory birds can be found as far north as Finland and as far south as South Africa, extending east into some Asiatic countries too. Most commonly, European Bee-eaters will breed and nest in southern Europe, then migrate south during autumn and winter.

European bee-eaters live for five to six years. The difficulties of migration and avoiding predators along the way affect every bird. Bee-eaters today also find it harder to find food, as there are fewer insects around as a result of pesticides.

The Tri-colored Heron created this "Attractive Splash" and I was lucky enough to capture it.

Attractive, perky warbler found in humid lowlands and foothills of Central and northern South America. Favors dense understory in forest and edge. Usually in pairs or small groups which hop around low in brush. Rather stout-billed. Also note white eyebrow, rusty cap and cheeks, and yellow underparts. Listen for high-pitched sputtering song. Once considered conspecific with Rufous-capped Warbler.

Mit einem sehr schönen und zur Lok guten Kontrast bietenden Containerzug nach Wolfurt war die damals nagelneu beklebte 186 941 "Attracktive Forces" der LTE unterwegs. The King's Head is an attractive, diminutive pub, just off the main shopping street of Stamford. The left hand side - where the small bar is situated - is more for vertical drinking, while the right hand side finds seating for about 25 people. An impressive wood burner kept things very toasty for those present on our bitterly cold Saturday night visit, while the above average choice of ales and wines provided suitable liquid refreshment. The decor is vaguely contemporary, but not unnecessarily so and the lighting made the place feel cosy. Stamford has a number of very good pubs, but the King's Arms can be assured of their place amongst them.

*** Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce was one of several small attractive towns we passed through as we drove through the southern part of Quebec towards Quebec city .

I liked the way the church was framed by the trees

Some random travel musings

Living in Europe I am not unused to driving over international borders and having to change languages . Mary and I both feel that for some reason the crossing of the border between the USA and Quebec was the most dramatic we have ever experienced . We left Acadia NP in the morning and in the evening checked into a hotel in St Georges in Quebec. As soon as we crossed the border instantaneously absolutely everything was written in French and it was odd to arrive in St Georges and walk its streets to only hear French being spoken.

We had expected the change in language but were surprised how total it was . We had dinner in the only restaurant in the town the waitress was charming but English was for her a second language and her French was like nothing we had ever heard. My French in reasonable Marys is excellent but we had a devil of a job to make ourselves understood . In Quebec they seem to speak an older version of French and we were not catching some of the words and idioms at all. . However It was great fun it really did feel like we were in a foreign country . One example the sign in France at a traffic junction is Stop, in Quebec they used the word Arret which Mary says she has not seen on a road in France since the late sixties .

This is not a complaint we loved our visit to Quebec and the people were very friendly it is just a travel observation .

A final difference in Quebec car drivers drive in the European style were speed limits are of interest but not necessarily to be obeyed . This felt much more natural to me, in the States people do seem to stick to the speed limits much more. Odd that some people complain that face masks are an infringement of their liberty but seem quite content to let State governments mandate a speed limit.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH.

ANYONE MAKING MULTIPLE FAVES WITHOUT COMMENTS WILL SIMPLY BE BLOCKED

A scattered group of attractive relatively large mushrooms was growing between acers and conifers. I was thought it wouldn’t be too difficult finding out what are they but couldn’t find anything looking similar online or in guides. A dark charcoal-like cap (look like it was scorched by fire even on emerging young fungi seen here on the right) of up to 10 cm , smell was indiscriminate, no change in colours on touch. Any help with ID would be much appreciated. Old Arboretum. Westonbirt Arboretum near Tetbury, Gloucestershire, England.
