I think Atlantis is evil. The guys in the red vessels probably hunt and kill the fish people. And keep the shell bikinis of harpooned maremaids as trophys.

The Lost City of Atlantis. Tucked away, in a far removed corner of the ocean lies Atlantis. Long gone are the evil rulers who brought about the destruction of this great civilization. There is a new ruler who seems to have everything under control. One might say the place is looking down right happy. Just don't mention sushi to any of the locals.

If you live in the Lower Mainland you can see it in person, as it will be at the Surrey, B.C. museum for the Vancouver Lego Club's Mythology show from July 2012 through to September 15th.

"Habitant of the Atlantis"

From the deepest reaches of Homeworld's oceans, comes one of the most powerful Battlebugs ever designed. Built in secret at the Atlantis Research Base on the ocean floor, the "Scorpion" is a direct response by the EarthForce Military, to the Mars Defense Force's Zorak Class Battlemech. Thought officially, hostilities between Earth and an Independent Mars have been over for more than year, the Earth Government's refusal to allow a Mars representative into the United Systems Council has left both planets' militaries in a state of Cold War.

The Scorpion was designed using technologies already perfected on the Olympus Defense Mech, most notably it's primary beam cannons. These capitol scale weapons are mounted on the mech's tail for maximum mobility and fire coverage. Additional weapons systems include a wide variety of missiles, heavy Gatling cannons, and two massive trinium alloy claws.

Having been built under Earth's oceans, the Atlantis Assault Mech is designed as an all environment mecha. It is capable of operating on land, under water, or in vacuum. Though not yet tested in battle, the Scorpion's combat trials have proved promising. EarthForce plans to deploy Atlantis Assault Mechs to all of it's colonies and carrier ships, however heavy production costs coupled with a weakened Homeworld economy after Mars' secession mean that it will be several years until the Scorpion sees any significant level of deployment.

You can see the Atlantis Assault Mech, along with hundreds of other awesome MOCs, at Bricks Cascade in the Portland Oregon Convention Center. Public Exhibition days are June 2nd and 3rd. The full convention runs from Noon, Thursday May 31st, to closing Sunday June 3rd.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – After space shuttle Endeavour's rollout to Launch pad 39B at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 17, 2009, two different shuttles were poised on two different launch pads. Shuttle Atlantis (foreground) already was on Launch Pad 39A. Endeavour stood by at pad B in the unlikely event that a rescue mission was necessary during Atlantis' STS-125 mission to upgrade NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Atlantis launched on May 11. Endeavour was later moved to Launch Pad 39A for its STS-127 mission to the International Space Station. That flight launched July 15.

You're hiking along in Atlantis, looking at potholes, when all of a sudden, the bottom drops out and you have an instant slot canyon!

This panoramic view, photographed from the International Space Station, looking past the docked space shuttle Atlantis' cargo bay and part of the station including a solar array panel toward Earth, was taken on July 14, 2011, as the joint complex passed over the southern hemisphere. Aurora Australis or the Southern Lights can be seen on Earth's horizon and a number of stars are visible also.

Atlantis (in Greek, Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas") is a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias.

In Plato's account, Atlantis was a naval power lying "in front of the Pillars of Hercules" that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately 9600 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune".

Title: Dreaming of Atlantis

Like the shot? Fav it!

He holds her up in strong solid arms... effortlessly, while she gently floats around him, carresing him gently.

Underwater, everything becomes slower and timless.

I want this moment to last forever.

Together, we dream of Atlantis.

This shot is actually the result of my flash misfires. A happy mistake that made me see the shot a little differently. While all the other shots looked dreamy and romantic, this one had a cold melancholic and ethereal feel that really strung a chord with me.

The models in this shot are Fey Cody and Vladimir Tatarinoff Lissouba.

To make the scene look like it was underwater, the following stock images were used:

Surface water glow from - alibakhtiar.deviantart.com/art/Under-water-81945263

First of a series of shots from my largest shoot ever (check out some backstage shots HERE - www.facebook.com/pages/Von-Wong-Photography-Montreal-Base....

The original concept developed when I met model Fey Cody online, who told me that she had lost many people in her life and would like to do something that showed how they're spirits still lived on and were carried on within her. This concept combined with a sad story of loneliness that a good friend of mine Sabrina had told me resulted in the image you see above. I edited this picture yesterday and took advantage of a 40% off special they had at provisia and printed it out in a gigantic 24x30" format that you can check out in crappy webcam version HERE (http://img.skitch.com/20100316-frqb4pjwn29jb2s8eh9b773ciy.jpg)

I threw some WTB Nanoraptors for shizz on the atlantis. Very fun to ride so far. It feels like it could ride anywhere, anytime. It wont win any cross races, but that's more the rider's fault than the bike's.

The idea for the seabed came from Soren's fabulous Atlantis MOC that was at Brickcon recently. You can see his work here. www.flickr.com/photos/32865345@N02/6478779507/in/photostream

Atlantis Cockpit - Kennedy Space Centre

Sand sculpture at Frankston. Atlantis, carved by Sandis Kondis and Sue McGrew.

The sculptures are created from coarse quarry sand and water and then sprayed with a waterproofing solution.

The Atlantis resort is located on Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas.

It's a short water taxi ride from the cruise terminal.

The photo was taken from the deck of the Carnival Liberty.

The Orbiter Atlantis has found a new home after retirement, and an impressive one it is too. A purpose-built attraction at the Visitor Center with a pre-show that opens out to the Shuttle. Hard to believe we watched this Orbiter launch on STS-112 way back in 2002, nice to see her preserved so well.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis¹ - Kennedy Space Center, Titusville Florida

The space shuttles required a very specific glide path to land, so they rejiggered the P.A.P.I. Lights¹ to safely guide them in,

'cause there were no second tries, landing these babies.

Back in the day I used to ride the P.A.P.I. Lights² dirt road right up to the gate to the lights, but these days you can only get half way there, since they made the last half mile off limits to those who don't have proper clearance. Who knows, maybe they're workin' on re-uppin' the lights for the next-gen re-entery ve-hicles, and they didn't want the locals takin' pics to sell to the Rooskies.

² PAPI lights (precision approach path indicator lights)

PAPI lights are an important part of an airfield's ground lighting system used to land incoming aircraft. The lights are a visual aid that helps pilots to approach the runway at a proper angle to land their aircraft safely.
