Standing tall in divine grace, this is the magnificent bronze statue of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, at Kek Lok Si Temple in Penang, Malaysia. Rising over 30 meters high, she represents compassion, kindness, and love—values deeply cherished in Buddhist culture.
Kek Lok Si, Southeast Asia's largest Buddhist temple, has been a beacon of spirituality and cultural pride since the late 19th century. This awe-inspiring pavilion, completed in 2009, shelters the goddess with its intricately carved pillars and vibrant roof, symbolizing both strength and serenity.

USSC #303 leads cane loads across the Caloosahatchee Canal at Moorehaven, FL on a crystal clear Winter afternoon. In the distance (right of the lead locomotive) you can see smoke from cane fields burning for harvest.
A Eurasian Robin (Erithacus rubecula) perched and singing loudly on an old tree stump at Burnby Hall Gardens, East Yorkshire.
This photo is from Marado [Mara Island]. Marado represents the southernmost point in South Korean territory. The island is about 30km from the southern port of Jeju and the trip by ferry took about 15-20 minutes. The island is comparatively small (approximately 0.3 square kilometers) and you can walk around its entirety at a leisurely pace in about 90 minutes. Marado is home to about 90 residents and "…has long been known for its population being composed of strong women and docile men." (Wiki). While there, we saw traditional "haenyeo" women divers actively working at their trade of free diving to gather seafood.
No one to sit on their pedestal, these wooden seagulls were perched alone in the rain and were at peace in the local park playground.

Sunrise; at last - My first proper trip out last weekend for sunrise since the lockdown and the first tentative relaxation of restrictions here in the UK.
It seems an age since I've been out on a proper shoot and even longer since a dawn one at that. Cloudless skies and a bright, intense daybreak made for challenging conditions. Nevertheless, it was great to be out and to gulp that fresh, cool dawn air at last.
So here it is - sunrise at Eshton with the early light casting long shadows of the delightful, quirky copse on the North Yorkshire landscape as colour floods across the rolling countryside.

At Great Pond
the sun, rising,
scrapes his orange breast
on the thick pines,
and down tumble
a few orange feathers into
the dark water.
On the far shore
a white bird is standing
like a white candle ---
or a man, in the distance,
in the clasp of some meditation ---
while all around me the lilies
are breaking open again
from the black cave
of the night.
Later, I will consider
what I have seen ---
what it could signify ---
what words of adoration I might
make of it, and to do this
I will go indoors to my desk ---

D&H paint and D&H signals, doesnt get much better. After staying up most of the night to see if they’d leave Enola early or at an acceptable time. They reached Hanover around 0600 and needed a recrew which allowed for everyone to get some morning golden light a majority of the way north.
These are the gardens of Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, just outside of Paris. Every Saturday evening until October, it is candlelit! 2000 candles in the garden and around the château. The evening ends with fireworks at 23:00 hours.

Santa Maria di Loreto was begun in 1507 by Antonio da Sangallo the younger (Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane, born Antonio Cordini), but not finished until 1573 by Jacopo del Duca. The church of the Most Holy Name of Mary at the Trajan Forum (as the name would be in English) was built 1736-1751 and designed by architect Antoine Derizet. The churches now look like twin churches, but they really are not.
I have photographed this group of palm trees before and they are always beautiful. Standing on the southern perimeter of Reed Canal Park in South Daytona, Florida, the light at sunset caught both the clouds and the trees with a wonderful glow. I brought up some of the colors that weren't obvious in the photo, but could be seen with the eye.

Personal note: Warm thanks to those of you that stayed with me during this Leopard series. This "Leopard at Rest" image is the last of the series for 2018. It is rare that you get to photograph the same magnificent animal for an extended period of time. The lighting fast changes of mood from napping to aggressive warnings demonstrated how complex their reactions could be at a moment's notice. I only wish I could follow him for years to come…

The bridge that crosses the river Conwy at Llanrwst.with the splendid Virginia creeper draped cottage tea rooms called Beyond the Bridge in the background .
I was at a pond in Az and aimed my camera at the opposite side.
I wanted to get a photo of some homes, the shoreline and a bit of the water below.
A blue heron flew over just as I clicked with what I guess is dinner, and this is its reflection in the water.
I didn't see it till I downloaded the image and noticed it at the bottom of the frame. It was the most interesting part of the photo, so I zoomed in and cropped it.
Other than smoothing it out a bit from the fuzziness of the zoom/crop, this is as it appeared.
That fish must have given the great blue heron quite a fight. ;-)
