In November 2017, the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) held its second country dialogue on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) in Geita, Tanzania.
The dialogue followed months of preparatory work with Tanzanian partners HakiMadani and MTL Consulting.
Participants spent two days visiting four-small-scale mines in Geita, one of Tanzania's main gold-producing regions. This was followed by two days in workshops discussing how to make ASM in Tanzania more sustainable.

The rule is that you don't panic until you see the sound techs running. The ASM running is completely normal.

Winners of the ASMS Hackathon competition recently pitched their ideas to the City of Mobile - Government Mayor and other city & business leaders!
The Hackathon event included a one-day challenge for students to engage in real-world, creative problem solving while also learning from local technology professionals. Congratulations to the juniors from ASMS and 8th graders from Elberta and Foley Middle schools! Their winning projects included a job finder site for young adults in Mobile and an environmental impact browser plug in.
Rugby au menu du mercredi 29 décembre avec la première journée retour du Top 14.
Au stade Marcel Michelin de Clermont Ferrand, l’ASM reçoit l’USAP (pour les non initiés, le club de Rugby de la ville de Clermont-Ferrand en Auvergne reçoit le club de Rugby de la ville de Perpignan). Ces deux équipes représentent les deux derniers champions et l’affiche de ce match est identique à l’affiche des deux dernières finales. L’ASM est comme d’habitude en jaune et bleu (ce n’est pas pour rien qu’on les appelle les « jaunards »), les catalans (les joueurs de Perpignan) sont comme d’habitude en « sang et or ».
Le coup d’envoi a lieu à 20 heures 45, dernier match de la journée, horaire spécial pour les caméras de Canal+ qui le diffuse en direct. Le stade est plein, plus de 16 000 personnes dont beaucoup comme moi debout sur le coté de la pelouse. Les joueurs locaux vont gagner difficilement tout en ayant dominé.

La photo a été prise avec un canon G11 en zoom 5 fois à f 4,5 au 1/100ème de seconde.
