Aside from the amazing street dancers on Bourbon Street, this chap was definitely my favourite street performer. He doesn't move a muscle, I have no clue how he keeps his back foot like that, and I know he has been doing this for years. I dropped some coin in his bucket and he frightened the life out of me by bursting into life and thanking me, I did shriek quite a bit, as I wan't expecting him to move. In fact I think I frightened him more than he frightened me.

Aside from several locals that operate on the P&W, the daily road trains from RI and CT have historically operated under the cover of darkness for decades. Starting in around 1982, they operated train PRWO from Valley Falls, RI to Worcester to get interchange to and from Conrail to save per-diem. This also got things set up for the locals on Monday. This particular day in the winter of 1983, WOPR is racing south through the Linwood section of Northbridge, MA with M-420 2004 leading GP38-2 2008. Robert C. Barnett scan, SC Collection
The Union Pacific local is heading backwards on what is today known as the St. Charles Industrial Spur in St. Charles, IL. This line used to be the mainline of the Chicago Great Western, the "Corn Belt Route." The St. Charles Industrial Spur is one of 3 surviving segments of the former CGW main that still exist in Illinois that I am aware of. Of the 3 remaining stretches of CGW trackage in Illinois, this is the 2nd longest. The segment out in Byron, IL that is still in service to occasionally serve the Byron Nuclear Plant is the longest. The shortest segment is just to the east of this location, and is a spur off the Elgin, Joliet, & Eastern in West Chicago, IL.
Aside from the UP locomotives, this scene would look very much the same as it did prior to 1968, when the CGW was taken over by the Chicago & Northwestern. A few years later the CGW was downgraded and then abandoned in pieces. The jointed rail, single trackage, and perceived rural setting could very well lead one to believe this was the CGW of old. You just have to let your mind swap U.P. Armor Yellow for CGW Maroon.
Aside from the since-remodeled physical plant here at CPF-335, the bigger story in this case is the motive power. By the time the Pan Am era dawned, it was clear that the remaining six-axle units were on borrowed time...and in hindsight, their SD40-2 successors didn't last that long either.
Catching one of the SD26s was always fun, but the SD39 was a real score. Both were antiques, and neither evaded the scrap yard for too much longer after this image.
Last in my wetlands series is this American Avocet photographed in Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge, Utah.
Established in 1928 by Congress, Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge was one of the first refuges to join a system of lands now encompassing over 560 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System - a network of lands set aside and managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service specifically for wildlife. The Refuge and other wetlands associated with the Great Salt Lake provide critical habitat for migrating birds, over 250 species moving through this area annually by the millions to rest and feed. As part of the Bear River Bay, the Refuge is designated as a Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network site, a globally important shorebird area.
The Refuge lies along the eastern edge of the Pacific Flyway and the western edge of the Central Flyway, making it an important resting, feeding, and nesting area for birds in both flyways. Of more than 250 bird species that use the refuge, 67 species nest on the Refuge. American avocets and black-necked stilts nest by the thousands along Refuge dikes and roads. White-faced ibis nest in dense emergent vegetation in large colonies of up to 10,000 birds. Migrant tundra swans can number in the tens of thousands in the spring and fall. The Refuge uses a complex system of dikes and water control structures to provide different water depths for a variety of waterbird species over the seasons.
A dance of light and shadow blends,
As day to night its journey sends.
The clouds, like curtains, part aside,
Revealing sun's last warm, bright tide.

I'll be going now...
Hyperbole aside, this will be my last post for awhile (for a positive reason). Tomorrow will be my last day in Montana, and I debated over which shot to symbolize it with. I settled on the real final shot I ever took out here. It truly symbolizes a lot. Seen ripping along the 4th Sub back home to Missoula, the first opportunity (opportunity vs doing it is another discussion I suppose) I had to shoot the business train is also the last time it would ever run. The railroad would fall 8 days later. The cars will certainly haul passengers again, but will never again be carrying the flag of Montana's proudest company. The trip was to celebrate the retirement of the Vice President, with his entire career served at MRL. For me though, it celebrated the end of one lifetime, and the beginning of another in the not so distant future. In the nine months following this shot, I haven't felt the urge to pick up the camera, save for a fun trip into Moab. It's just not the same. The 4300's are gone, both of the immaculate 4406/4408 on this train, along with all the other 4400's are now unrecognizable in Helena Helper service, the SD45's have been cut up (355 remains), the 355, 290 and all the GP9's sit in a deadline at Livingston. Even the gas train no longer takes the 10th Sub westbound, one of the best chases in the country. No MRL power leads mainline trains anymore, save for a few locals. The party is truly over, at least for me. I'm fortunate to have been able to document so much of this railroad, the good and the bad. When people talk about ol big blue and tell how things were, I don't need to listen... I lived it. See you on the other side!!
I have known this location for a long time now, but I didn't know how it looked like from the inside. It wasn't until some weeks ago that I started seeing some cool shots about a mysterious dome. I figured it could match the dome on this location, so I started asking around, with no success. I decided to drop by and pay it a visit, and luckily for me it was worth it

The mountains of Marlborough district loom in the distance across the waters of Tasman bay just moments after sunrise. The main event is to the left of this photo; you can see the actual sunrise in my related photo posted in my Photostream ('The Shining Path').
Taken from Split Apple Retreat, near Split Apple Rock, just south of Abel Tasman National Park, South Island, New Zealand.
Straight from the camera, only a neutral polarizing filter (KSM CPL) was used.
These sweet little guys have beautiful eyes, thick long eyelashes and wild crazy hairs coming out of them in very odd places. Aside from those vintage ladies purses of the 40's, I've only seen a real armadillo once before & that one was dead...road killed in a park in Panama.
Even though this castle is literally only a facade, it still stands with pride. Built in 1870, it suffered a fire in 2005 which destroyed the inside. I took this shot at dawn, just before sunrise. It was really cloudy, so I never saw the sun rise

Aside from the fact that we have the ability to create perfect figures, do not have any daily exercise rituals, and NEVER preoccupied with counting calories, I'd say we we have it pretty easy here in Second Life. What remains a challenge of course is looking our best when it comes to our cosmetics and clothing selections.
Denim shorts and a crop top like this [BEAUTY STYLE] #14 Top & Shorts combo makes for the ultimate cool girl outfit. This outfit fits Maitreya, Legacy (+ Perky), and Reborn mesh bodies.
This look exudes confidence, and when wearing it you can rock it in any season! You simply just need to know how to style it.
For example, with the many fabulous color schemes choices available within the HUD Color & Texture Fatpack of this Beauty Style outfit, it just a matter of picking out your favorite color choices for the top, denim shorts, and panties from the HUD's wide selection - and then pairing them with complementary accessories such as these [Howlett Design] Floral XXIX Leg and Butterfly IX Chest Tattoos.
Collectively, these fabulous tattoos draw out and thus enrich your color choices within the context of your chosen colors for your clothing pieces.
Both the [Beauty Style] #14 Outfit and the (HDesign) Floral XXIX Leg and Butterfly IX Chest Tattoos are exclusively available at this month's Swank Renew Yourself January Makeover Event.

They are saying snow is due this weekend , but on past record of previous years I will believe it when I see it ! My bit of Cornish String is not telling me anything - about anything at the moment .
A Planet Rock DJ this morning was on about how weather forecasts these days are always so dramatic and sound like the whole country is going to be deluged with whatever when only somewhere like the Outer Hebrides is affected !
All that aside , it seems the Yarn Bombers have been busy again decorating the pillar box , these days it seems there is always some sort of themed tea cosy on top here !!
Aside from Cleopatra, Tutankhamun is probably the best-known of the Egyptian pharaoh since the discovery of his tomb in the early 20th century.

Aside from its forests, Ranthambore also has dry, open areas with sparse vegetation and these are the habitat of the grey francolin, which feeds on insects, particularly termites, seeds and on occasion even snakes. Breeds from Iran to Bengal.

✨ Step aside, darlings… the Maggie Dress has arrived. ✨
Who says romance is dead? I’m the Maggie Dress — a dreamy blend of old-world charm and contemporary sass. Think Jane Austen meets high fashion runway, with a touch of coquette realness. My soft puffed sleeves and ruched bustline take a flirty bow to Regency-era silhouettes, but don’t be fooled — I’m made for the modern muse.
Let’s talk details
I hug just right at the waist before flaring into a delicate A-line skirt trimmed with the prettiest lace. The square neckline frames your collarbone like a whispered secret, and the silky fabric? Swoon. I’m elegance with an edge — perfect for candlelit dinners, garden parties, or serving main character energy in your next photo op.
HUD me, baby
Feeling soft? Bold? Somewhere in between? I come with a color HUD that lets you pick your vibe — from subtle neutrals to deep, sultry tones. Express yourself with every click.
Compatible mesh bodies
I play well with the best of the best. Try me on and watch the magic:
🔸 Legacy
🔸 Perky
🔸 LaraX
🔸 PetiteX
🔸 Reborn
🔸 Juicy
🔸 Waifu
Whether you're dancing under the stars or running the world, I’m your go-to glow-up moment. So zip me up, toss that hair, and tell them Maggie sent you.

Aside from my renewed interest in photography, my other passion is cycling. When I travel I look for bicycle shots that also make good photos. This is one of many that I took in Amsterdam a few years back, where cycling is a mode of transportation for the masses.

This location was in my bucket list for a long time.
Located in the middle of Antwerp, it is not really abandoned, although it has been uninhabited for a long time, waiting for the right buyer.
Surrounded by modern skyscrapers, it is an anomaly that catches your eye when you see it from the street.
I knew there was a guy living in the penthouse, watching out for intruders, so I didn't think that traspassing was an option on this one.
I took it for impossible to visit it for many years, until recently I got the number of the guard. I took my chances and gave him a call.
He turned up to be a really cool guy, and paying him a small tip, he lets you get inside and take all pictures you want.
Contact me if you want his number

Aside from the common P-42 action, the Downeaster has this GP38-3 running around due to power shortages making for an interesting change of pace. AMT 740 leads Amtrak #695 east down the Mountain Branch to Portland station, traversing mileage that saw GP38's on the daily many years ago.
Excerpt from conservationhamilton.ca:
Overview: Water mixes with carbon dioxide to make carbonic acid; the acid responsible for dissolving carbonate rocks like limestone.
This stream has been flowing underground for several meters through the channels it dissolved in the bedrock. This spring is the point where it "recharges‟ to the surface.
This isn't "pure water‟. Aside from the man-made chemicals it probably contains, it also has naturally occurring chemicals in it, like carbon dioxide.
Carbon Dioxide can be found in the air and in the soil. It is a natural gas created by humans, animals, and plants. When we breathe, we add carbon dioxide to the air. When plants
decompose, they add carbon dioxide to soil.
When rain falls through the air or percolates through the soil, it picks up the carbon dioxide and becomes carbonic acid; the same acid you find in soda pop. This acidic water is what dissolves the dolostone and makes karst. Pure water could not do it.
Depending on the time of year and the amount of rain, the stream pH will be neutral or very slightly acidic.
Aside from being a great skier, did I also mention that John Ward Kelly IV is also a great photographer too? More pics from my old friend's water skiing jaunt in Lutz, Florida.

The Boat That Drifted Aside
A winter morning on the Korana River, at Foginovo bathing area.
The sun finally managed to break through the fog and gently touch the water — a quiet reward for patience. Trees are still holding onto their last leaves, as if not yet ready to surrender to the cold.
The river is calm, blue and clear, reflecting the sky and the riverbank, while a small boat — seemingly drifted aside — rests peacefully, tied to this shore.
In this silence, everything feels exactly where it belongs. And nothing is in a hurry.
Photographed on the Korana River, Foginovo bathing area.
I ništa ne žuri.
Fotografirano na rijeci Korani, Foginovo kupalište.
The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport "Blanc Noir" at night, being well, white.
Cheesy jokes aside, this thing was so sick. Seeing it parked on the street amongst normal cars was unreal!
