Hundreds came to St. John Cantius parish to begin the penitential season of Lent. This is a privileged season of grace for the entire Church. It begins the annual solemn preparation for the Easter Mystery which is the culmination of the Church Year.
The Latin name for Lent, Quadragesima, means forty and refers to the forty days Christ spent in the desert which is the origin of the Season.
As happens on every Ash Wednesday, the people receive ashes on their foreheads in the shape of a cross while the priest says, "Remember that thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return." Ashes are a biblical symbol of repentance, sorrow, and humility. It is a fitting beginning to this holy season dedicated to the conversion of our hearts and the need to do acts of penance for ourselves and for the world.
In Lexington Cemetery, Kentucky.
I bought a roll of 120 format Rollei Pan 25 film a while ago. This is ISO/ASA 25 film. Very, very slow. And very sharp indeed. One of the advantages you often get with slow film is less grain and more detail. I'd say it's true with this film.
Ash trees in Schiller Park. The trees are in danger from the emerald ash borer, and might be cut down by the city to keep the pests from spreading.
The German Village Society is trying to protect them.
“Name’s Ash… Housewares.”
Meet Ashley “Ash” Williams. As you can tell, he has gone through a lot in a short period of time: He watched his friends get possessed by evil released from a book; he watched them get killed; his hand was taken over by the evil deadites; he had to cut off that hand with a chainsaw; he replaced his missing hand with said chainsaw; he was sucked through a portal to medieval times where he had to find the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in order to be able to get sent back to the future. He now works at S-Mart, protecting the public from the Evil Dead that roam the land.
Ash stands 13” tall, and is made of a 20% wool poly blend and stuffed with fiberfill. His chainsaw won’t cut you, but it will be used to scare off any deadite that is foolish enough to come within the realm of Ash Williams, and he even comes with a boomstick that can be used against Evil Ash, who just maybe seen sometime in the near future.
And remember

Removal of Ash Trees in Riverside Park due to Emerald Ash Borer infestation. Not all are dead, but all are dying. Over 50 trees are being removed. New trees will be planted in the future.
