During the winter months we only have a few Goldfinches visiting our yard. This year they seem to prefer the Hot Meats, pepper treated sunflower meats, over the thistle socks we put out.
When a recent spell of severely cold weather hit our area I put out a brand new thistle sock for them and they completely ignored it when previous winters they could not get enough of it.
Guess as long as they're coming and finding plenty to eat there's no reason to complain.

Such a beautiful, warm first night of September, especially after the day dawned so foggy!
As things are about to really warm up finally with temperatures heading into the 80 degrees F range next week, winter is a thing of the past.
It did have its pretty moments like this one with the light snow on this pretty scene along the Gunpowder River in Maryland.
Happy Fence Friday too :))
The HST, once an everyday sight in South Wales now reduced to short formation secondary services, seen here led by 43175 as it rounds the bend at Miskin.
As silence fills my soul with contentment,
It's your soft glow that keeps me warm.
So as the waves wash away my cares,
I walk along the shore to its end.
All the while, a soft wind can be heard whispering,
as it guides the water over the sand, saying; hush...
As part of Singapore's Light to Night Festival 2023, two light installations were put up at the Padang.
Hearing Padang is comprises 2 large curved structures that creates an acoustic experience that allows sound to travel from one end to another.
As seen from the viewpoint right next to parking lot. Taken after first light.
With a sheer plunge of 89 feet, Tumalo Falls is both the tallest and most impressive waterfall along Tumalo Creek - as well as one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the vicinity of Bend. The area around the falls was burnt in a 1979 forest fire, though like the landscape surrounding Mount St. Helens after it's devastating 1980 eruption, the forest is quickly healing. A few snags still line the hillsides along the valley but the area is green again, covered with small fir trees and not at all detracting from the splendor of the falls. A nice set of viewpoints both at the top and near the base of the falls make viewing the falls possible for nearly everyone.

This was an HDR merge of 3 images at EV 0, EV -2, and EV -4. It looks like I'll have to go to EV -6 or lower to retain the details of the moon's surface.
As there were strong thunderstorms just over this area, assume this was naturally caused. Taken along the Colorado River.
As you can see there are some distracting objects but that tree and that light.... Could not find a better pov and did shoot this with the lens in a small opening between two gates.

Also known as Japanese cherry blossom, seeing the sakura blossom tree covered in delicate pink blossoms put me in mind of the song "The Flowers That Bloom in the Spring, Tra La" from my favourite Gilbert and Sullivan Operetta, "The Mikado".
"The flowers that bloom in the spring,
Tra la!
Breathe promise of merry sunshine —
As we merrily dance and we sing,
Tra la!
We welcome the hope that they bring,
Tra la!
Of a summer of roses and wine,
Of a summer of roses and wine.
And that's what we mean when we say that a thing,
Is welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring.
Tra la la la la,
Tra la la la la.
The flowers that bloom in the spring."
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" on the 6th of April is "blossoms", so whilst being in the Southern Hemisphere, I am slowly wending my way towards autumn, I do love spring, so I have lots of blossom shots that have yet to make their way up onto Flickr. The theme gives me the perfect excuse to select one and post it! My two favourite seasons are autumn, for its brightly coloured cascades of leaves, and spring for its pastel coloured blooms which are always a delight after the grey winter months. I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!
We just returned from an intense 3 week trip to Madagascar.
Wonderful people, beautiful landscapes and a fantastic but very difficult to photograph fauna.
It was really hard to photograph the wonderful endemic birds of Madagascar. We had to take many long walks along dense forest trails carrying our heavy lenses, going down and up slopes to find the most emblematic species, but in the end we managed to see and photograph most of them.
This photo of one of Madagascar's most emblematic endemic species was taken after another long walk through the dense forest. It is a rare and very localized bird.

"are you back?" he asked.
"maybe," came her cool response, drifting on a curling breeze from the ocean that was weighted heavy with salt and dreams. she was like that, you know. bitter sweet.
"i want you back." his eyes were tender as he reached for a beer, cracked it open, took a sip. he kept is eyes on her.
"yeah," she shook her short hair, and the wind sent it everywhere. it sent her scent everywhere. garnier fructis. cheap shit never smelled so good. "me, too."
he took her picture like that. hands stuffed in the pockets of her jean jacket -- half dressed, covered in sand and provoking. she was always provoking something. emotions. sex. laughs. smiles. hatred. this time it was lust.
god, he missed her to her marrow.

As Cleo tends to wait for the snacks to fly right into her mouth, no birds were hurt during or after this photo shoot. She still considers herself as a great huntress, though, who could catch every bird she wants if she thought it was worth the effort (what - of course - will never happen).
I add another capture in the comments.
In the fashion of John Glover, who climbed Ben Lomond with John Batman in 1833, I have opted for the long descriptive title. But I could just as easily have used the famous Bob Dylan one, "All Along the Watchtower".
This is the view from the Watchtower Lookout. It is a stunning place and my next photograph was taken when I turned the camera down, rather than out across the valley.

As the light faded Friday night, this tornado looking cloud still hung over the Rocky Mountains. Winds are forecasted to be extremely high today, so I'm sure we will have some interesting cloud formations in the sky.
Have a great week!!!!
As i stood waiting for just another sunset show at the foot of Rosengarten these people walked in this giant movie theater for the last 2 tickets available...
Thank you for your kind visit.
As many of you know Polaroid film has gotten very expensive. And the Polaroid55 is the worst! I have a box of 10 year old film and have been using it regardless. this is one. The negative is so washed out you can hardly believe it, but I'm actually getting good images from them. (My color polaroid film from ten years ago is completely gone. Utterly.)
As you know it’s rare for me to post a black and white photo as I usually find myself thinking that the colour version is so much prettier. Then there’s the other reason- can’t possibly post that B&W version as there’s so many of the you post far superior monochrome images. But sometimes it’s just worth trying at least I suppose, so this is a B&W image of the bluebells that I posted a few weeks ago. I did find it quite interesting though that the blue turned white.
Thanks for stopping

As I was driving by this old barnyard, I noticed a few chickens hurriedly making their way across the yard to the shed. Then I spied the problem. A cocky rooster was purposely strutting toward the hens with just one thing on his mind. All I could think of was that the farmer bought a new young rooster and the hens were not pleased. I wish I could have watched what unfolded, but I was stopped in the middle of a country road (yet again). I can hear the ladies now, “We want old Mr. Doodledont back again.”
As promised, the breeding male Pin-tailed Whydah. Native to Africa, this Southern California exotic is a small songbird, but he sure makes up for his size with those foot-long tail feathers. Of the several I have seen over the last few years, this is one of my cleaner images. They actually do a really cool mid-air dance for the girls - still waiting for that shot.
As the sun moves across the autumn sky the flowering maple also known around here as Chinese Lantern or Chinese Hat is full of beautiful flowers. As suggested, my hummingbird visitors seem to really enjoying the nectar. That is as long as my camera is in the house. When the camera is with me the maple might get a butterfly to visit but the hummers stay out of image range, high in the oak trees while they wait for me to put the camera down.
As well as photographing pebbles and leaves in Scotland, I spent a lot of time photographing bits of grass. All things I probably could have photographed at home. I always enjoy making this kind of image. But I’m never quite sure later if I’ve created a work of art or just a load of arty bollocks. It's a fine line! You decide.
