As dusk starts to fall, the sun begins to drop behind hills on the Makanyane Park as we wait by a dam for animals to join us for a sundowner drink. Beer in hand, camera of course in the other, the stillness and peacefulness of the scene caught us all by surprise. A fish eagle sits in the tree in the centre of the lake - awaiting any movement on the surface. In the distance we could hear lions celebrating a kill and hyenas calling. Magical.

In June 2011, for the first time, all 16 communities in the Xingu Indigenous Park joined in celebration of the 50th anniversary.

No primeiro quartel do séc.

Salamander elite pilots use the Nautilus SP-350 as a deep sea exploration submarine ship. Its technology is based on the close observation of cephalopods in general, and the Chambered Nautilus in particular.

The right balance between swift movement (both activated by propellers and jet propulsion), an assortment of visual, chemical and gravity sensors, and high camouflage skills makes it the perfect vehicle for inconspicuous observation of the deep sea biomes.

Pilots often take pride in decorating their own machine with rare customized parts made of copper and gold, coral powder and opal moonstones.

-------------------------------------

This is my very first attempt at building a ship slash mollusk, or any type of vehicle for that matter, out of Lego.

Its name and inspiration actually comes from the sea creature more than the famous fictional Jules Verne's submarine, although the steampunk background was definitely in my mind while building it.

It's been great fun getting accustomed to this new logic and finding new solutions to new problems. Being able to hold the model in my hands while building it was pretty neat too. And the use of a minimal number of parts is both exciting, because it's a fast building pace, and stressing because you can't rely on mass to cover mistakes.

I'll definitely try my hands at another ship model soon, and try to make those damned canopy gaps disappear.

The model sits on a stand from which it can be lifted, and can be swooshed if need be.

Very curious to know what you think of this thing! - Cheers

An awful lot of time and effort was taken by GM North to complete the thorough refurbishment of 4760. However, the project to resurrect and refresh further Atlanteans beyond 4446 and 4721 would remain stillborn.

When you enter the Siq you feel the temperature drop and the sky disappear. Your world feels limited to the walkway. In some places it can be five metres wide but usually less than that. The walls rise up to two hundred metres from the ground. It can feel like a cold, dark and dead place but there are some birds in the region - Sinai Rosefinch, Laughing Doves, Mourning Wheatear, Fan-Tailed Raven, Blackstart, Black Redstart and Rock Pigeon. It is quite a walk and you do feel as if you are entering another realm. Sometimes it can be very busy so it is better to go when it is quiet.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siq

al-Siq (Arabic: السيق‎) (translated: the shaft) is the main entrance to the ancient city of Petra in southern Jordan. The dim, narrow gorge (in some points no more than 3 meters wide) winds its way approximately one mile and ends at Petra's most elaborate ruin, Al Khazneh (The Treasury).

The Siq is a natural geological fault produced by tectonic forces and worn smooth by water erosion. The walls that enclose the Siq stand between 91–182 meters (300–600 feet) in height.[1]

The entrance to the Siq contains a huge dam, reconstructed in 1963 and again in 1991, designed to bar the mouth of the Siq and reroute the waters of Wadi Musa. The dam is a fairly true reconstruction of what the Nabataeans did to control Wadi Musa between the 1st century BC and the beginning of the 1st century AD. The entrance also contains the remnants of a monumental arch, of which only the two abutments and some hewn stones of the arch itself have survived. The arch collapsed in 1896 following an earthquake, but its appearance is known based on the lithograph works of David Roberts.[1]

The Siq was used as the grand caravan entrance into Petra. Along both walls of the fissure are a number of votive niches containing baetyli, which suggest that the Siq was sacred to the Nabatean people. In 1998, a group of statues were uncovered when digging was conducted to lower the road by more than six feet. Although the upper part is greatly eroded, it is still possible to recognize the figures of two merchants, each leading two camels. The figures are almost twice lifesize.[1]

Along the Siq are some underground chambers, the function of which has not yet been clarified. The possibility that they were tombs has been excluded and archaeologist find it difficult to believe that they were dwellings. The majority consensus is that they housed the guards that defended the main entrance to Petra.

As America takes pause to spend time with family and give thanks for the fact that we can over-eat in this country, Mr Hendricks and Mr Patchett would like to give thanks for all those who work to preserve our cultural heritage.

Thanks to all who bring important buildings like the Bosler House back to life. Thanks to those who restore furniture and early appliances. Thanks to those folks who keep “retro” fashions of all kinds in the public imagination. Thanks to those who keep the memory of orphan car brands alive and the people who still know how to keep them running. Thanks to the skillful Chinese craftsmen who made the models we photograph in order to take you on our nostalgic time travel adventures.

Thanks to all of you for the kind comments and views you have given us over the past couple of years.

Our first night at Wanaka was really hot and today it is overcast but warm so far this morning. January 28, 2015 New Zealand.

This shot was taken in Snowy's garden. I belong to a group called Blipfoto where you put up a photo a day. Snowy puts up some fantastic photos of her garden. I meet her for the first time today and she made us feel most welcome.

As the shadows encroach on the right-of-way, westbound Amtrak train #43 passes under the PRR position-light signals at MP 318.4 on the Pittsburgh Line. The view is from the overpass at Georges Station Road. This would be the last train I would photograph under this signal bridge, as it was removed three weeks later as part of Norfolk Southern's implementation of PTC on the Pittsburgh Line.

BNSF 9669 leads Becker empties back west to Montana on a rainy Saturday morning. Although weather was less than desirable, this was the first time I was ever able to chase one of these things leading a coal drag. Only one other time in my life have I seen one of these executive SD70MACs lead a coal train, and it was when I was still using my phone for a camera back in 2018.

She breathed deeply in...and held her breath...

The water rushing over the river rock could still be heard

Ever so faintly...the birds' wings fluttered above

Warm was the sun as it touched her skin

As each moment passed into the next...

She could see the seasons change before her eyes

And as she let out a sigh from holding her breath

A touch of frost could be seen

She felt the cold rush in...

Winter's lullaby approaching soon...another season

Another dream...

I'm now revisiting a few videos I made en femme not too long ago. This video snapshot is from March 6, 2019. When I previously posted pics for flickr from 2018-19 activity, I often only included here one or just a few snapshots per video taken. But more recently I've gotten into the practice of capturing more worthy video snapshots from individual videos of mine, so I'm doing a *retrospective* series now highlighting some such newly-captured snapshots, of course linking to the original videos posted on YouTube.

This particular pic is a snapshot from a video taken at home. The full video is posted on my YouTube channel at youtu.be/sUXDWsljdtA. Please check it out and comment/fave here if you like what you see.

As I was driving around the afternoon after a drifting thunderstorm, I found many of the classic pastoral scenes inspired by this region, such as the rolling green hills anchored by a lone cypress or a farmstead, of red barns framing green fields of wheat, of puffy white clouds marching endlessly into the horizon.

Here is one such scene from the byways that crisscross the Palouse region.
