looked through this window? How many times did my grandmother's seven siblings look out this window and wonder about their tomorrow or worry about their present?
For an uninhabited structure built in the 1930's, it has withstood the abuse of weather, neglect and time quiet well.
This window is on the second floor overlooking the stairwell and front porch. Note the line on the right, across the window and on the left. I can remember my great grandmother hanging her clothes there in the winter to dry.
The European robin (Erithacus rubecula), known simply as the robin or robin redbreast in the British Isles, is a small insectivorous passerine bird, specifically a chat, that was formerly classified as a member of the thrush family (Turdidae) but is now considered to be an Old World flycatcher. About 12.5–14.0 cm (5.0–5.5 inches) in length, the male and female are similar in coloration, with an orange breast and face lined with grey, brown upperparts and a whitish belly. It is found across Europe, east to Western Siberia and south to North Africa; it is sedentary in most of its range except the far north.
The robin is diurnal, although has been reported to be active hunting insects on moonlit nights or near artificial light at night. Well known to British and Irish gardeners, it is relatively unafraid of people and drawn to human activities involving the digging of soil, in order to look out for earthworms and other food freshly turned up. Indeed, the robin is considered to be a gardener's friend and for various folklore reasons the robin would never be harmed. In continental Europe on the other hand, robins were hunted and killed as with most other small birds, and are more wary. Robins also approach large wild animals, such as wild boar and other animals which disturb the ground, to look for any food that might be brought to the surface. In autumn and winter, robins will supplement their usual diet of terrestrial invertebrates, such as spiders, worms and insects, with berries and fruit. They will also eat seed mixtures placed on bird-tables.
Male robins are noted for their highly aggressive territorial behavior. They will fiercely attack other males and competitors that stray into their territories and have been observed attacking other small birds without apparent provocation. Such attacks sometimes lead to fatalities, accounting for up to 10% of adult robin deaths in some areas.
Because of high mortality in the first year of life, a robin has an average life expectancy of 1.1 years; however, once past its first year it can expect to live longer and one robin has been recorded as reaching 19 years of age. A spell of very low temperatures in winter may also result in significant mortality.

As you can see, kite flying is quite an exhausting sport. Rosebud Kite Festival. Rosebud, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia.
As the Mersey Ferry makes its final trip across the river from the Pier Head the sun began to set creating a beautiful golden sky for the lucky few who had made their way to vitness this scene. We are lucky to be able to witness some great sunsets in this part of the world and I will never get bored of sitting watching each one as all are unique.
As seen from above at Glacier Point, thick and buttery smoke fill Yosemite Valley as a result of the nearby Ferguson fire.
As the clock struck twelve, two Typhoons appear in the distance. A slow & sad flypast as the RAF flag is lowered for what is the last time as the handover to the army is complete.
Goodbye RAF Leuchars.
As seen from Lover's Leap, a southbound ethanol train snakes its way along the Mississippi River and through Hannibal, Missouri. From looking at photos taken a decade ago, it seems that the tracks here have been almost completely grown in with trees, and unfortunately now this is about as good of an angle as you can get.

Sadly not going to have much Carolyn time in the next couple of weeks and so just thought I would publish a couple of photos from the archives, albeit recent ones.
These are both from early 2022 and when I published the individual portfolios back then, they seemed to be received pretty well. Enjoy these new pics from those photo sessions and see you all soon. XXX
As luck would have it on the way home, I caught a meet going down at Murray siding on the CP near Belgrade, MN. Having scoped out the vintage elevator at Regal in years past but never seeing a train there, I knew exactly where to set up to catch the eastbound.
This is what happens when you have a concept in mind and you can't let more than four days pass without shooting something. You call up your friend two days before ask him if he can piece something together that has movement (which he did the night before) and tell him "Hey can you also find a model/subject?... Thank you!."
As is true of many places, Badlands National Park near Wall, SD is at its best in dawn light. Here, the rosy light at sunrise transforms the normally off-white landscape into something more resembling Southern Utah.
This photo was captured one year after a previous visit. The church in the former Iowa town of Halfa has not lost any of its charm to me, though the practice of rotating crops here set it among beans this year.
As another year passes, I honour places like this in spite of my long pause between flickr posts.
Had a little chat with my co worker last Friday she asked if I had spoken to Jess the girl who came out the other day. I said I had and that she was doing OK. we carried on chatting and my co worker said she can't understand why people don't just let us live life how we want to. I explained a few reasons and got on to how much it changes us as people. I said to her that she might have noticed how I have changed since being more comfortable being me. she responded in a totally unexpected way by saying. I don't see you has M anymore I see you as Helen.
Well I could have just hugged her there and then. I did tell her that not like we don't hug in our office because we do ut we normally have reason like her being upset or such like. It was so nice for her to say that and she isn't the first to do so.
Things are changing in my world once again.
As each new family party arrived they were greeted by loud joyful whooping from previous arrivals -it almost seemed like they were being questioned about the latest news from Iceland!

As a teenage boy I was always fascinated by the Crockton line change. I guess it was the unknown new place to see. When my dad would ask my opinion. It's the place I wanted to go. It was a lot of work to get into. But a pretty cool area.
Why do I love becoming a woman? A question I often ask myself as well as hearing from others who know of my liking to take ion a female persona. Do I regret being a man that desires to dress as a woman? Where is it all going to end up?
Questions, questions…
I accept we all have our own motivations and aspirations for expressing our desire to dress as women and which can also be a desire to inhabit a female persona. I have my personal feelings, emotional needs and ambitions for my female alter-ego which are not necessarily a reflection of how others feel about their own situation. For me, I have a need to actually pass as a woman and be perceived as being female when I cross-dress. I will admit to frustration over the years through a combination of my lack of skills in the art of male to female transformation, limits imposed by my physicality (being male) and I’m sure well meant advice telling me to forget passing and just enjoy it. To forget passing undermines everything that motivates my female side. When I become Helene I want to be a woman not simply a man dressed up. I dream of having a feminine appearance and emotionally being female rather than male. If this all sounds like serious transexual characteristics and an urgent need to start transition then let me say with utter certainty that is not what I want.
I don’t buy into the simplistic view that if you have a powerful desire to be a woman then the only answer is to transition. Nothing is that straightforward that you can boil it down to a one or the other answer. There exists a huge area of crossover. I genuinely like my male life and like being me. The idea of killing off my male self and only existing as a woman is not something I want. If I were to indulge in being simplistic, I could say I want it all, to be both a man and a woman. However, I know, especially now I am sixty years of age, how my feelings operate in terms of my transgender feelings. I can see now I have real intense moments of wanting to be female and this are all consuming when they occur. I do understand though, that these intense desires being too diminish and I am happy to return to being a man again. I would say that is reasonably creative cut as to why transitioning would not be a happy course of action for me.
I doubt I am alone in having these intense moments of wanting to be female forever but knowing they will at some point ease off. I will admit that it is these feelings that drive me to want to actually look convincingly female and to behave as a female both physically and emotionally when I transform myself from a man into a woman. It’s a fundamental part of my being and needs to be set free now and again.
In recent months my focus and aspirations for my female self has shifted towards passing myself off in a believable way as being a real woman. I find myself observing real women more and more and noting their choices in clothing, footwear and make-up. I also observe what men find attractive in women they encounter My goal is to be accomplished enough to be perceived as being a female and I too want to behave and respond as a female with any social interactions be that shopping, a polite hell, having a coffee in a cafe, visiting a gallery, having a meal and even creating some intrigue and desire with men. In short my aim for the few hours I take on my female persona I want o be able to cease being a man in every way and exist as a female.
Having outlined my feelings and aspirations does that answer any of the questions I began this narrative with? I think it partly addresses them. I do have many regrets about being a man that dresses as a woman. I kind of regret I never accepted this part of myself throughout my life. It caused me a lot of angst and made me a shy not very sociable person. I think I was far more transexual as a teenager and young man than I am now. Once I settled into a career I liked and a relationship that means more to me than my own inner desires and then had a family, everything took on a different level of contentment and also responsibility. My wife and family far outweigh my lifelong desire to become female, I would hate to cause any disruption to that. I do regret my cowardice as a young person not to act on my inner feelings in regard to desiring to be female. I chose the easy option of denial and suppression. Inevitably, I failed in that attempt at self control and had to come out as being transgender at the age of forty one. I do have regrets that certain people I came out to have used it against me, I misjudged their trust. I have regrets I don’t have breasts, a female body and look female, I dream of being feminine. Im not feminine though so this does distress me somewhat and I regret the lack of femininity.
Despite the regrets, they are not enough to crush me as I do enjoy my life, it’s an aspect I can handle, I know it is down to my own inaction that these regrets exist. I try to not let them intrude as I do enjoy my rare moments as a woman and find each opportunity incredibly rewarding and fulfilling.
Recently I was asked by a female friend where all of this was going to end up? It really made me think and I wanted to answer as honestly as I could. At the moment I think in the next few years I will start to spend time out and about as a woman not a man. This is a reflection of where I am going emotionally and also I do have personal ambitions in regard to the challenge of existing as a (part-time) woman. I want to do it well and never be considered as a man when I head out as a woman. I therefore see an increase in this kind of activity and a change in my wardrobe, hair and make-up to reflect this. I did consider what would occur if I were single. I don’t want to be single but it was a hypothetical scenario I felt I should muse over. I believe I would likely spend a lot more time as my female self if I were single but I’m pretty certain I would not transition. I still like my male self so I see such a scenario as being a less inhibited opportunity to fully express myself more freely.
It has taken me pretty much fifty years to accept myself and I don’t feel I’m still quite there yet, there is a lot more self acceptance I need to embrace. I think it’s my fear of damaging my relationship with my wife and family, who all know I have a female alter-ego, that prevents me from pushing things further. Al I can say is I do feel a lot more at ease with my inner female self than I did in past decades.
Tomorrow is national get outside day guys! Lets celebrate with a sunrise or a hike, spending some time out in nature. You could give me all the money in the world and my favourite thing would still be just being out in nature watching the sun rise.
Here's a shot from this morning at Corfe Castle. Seeing some epic shots in the mist during the week, I just had to get myself over there. No mist sadly, but still some lovely cloud and interesting light. I had to desaturate this one as it just didn't look right on the screen! A fantastic morning at my favourite castle ruins.
Happy Sunday!
Known as MIC 126, 126 was built in 1937 for the South Australian Railways' northern narrow gauge division where it spent its life as a railway pay car. During its operating life, the driver would've been accompanied by a guard armed with Colt.45 Semi-Automatic pistol to protect from a train robbery. It was not unheard of in Australia for railway pay vehicles to be targeted by armed gangs to gain access to the railway payroll. There were several robberies across the nation but one that has become almost a legend in SA is the 1935 Great Train Robbery on the Ghan Train which saw £4000 pounds-sterling of Gold stolen from a train that was en route from Alice Springs to Quorn.
Some maths for the total value of the loot now:
1935 (Pounds-Sterling) 4000
As of January 2023 that would be worth £225,147.11 (Pounds-Sterling) which translates to $409,457.75 in Australian Dollars.

Spending an afternoon with friends wearing a pretty blouse and a nice leather skirt is exactly how it should be. After years of guilt, of confusion and worrying that I was some weird person I now know that I was always supposed to be a woman.

Discovery at the flea market in the Obkirchergasse in Oberdöbling (in Vienna's 19th district Döbling)
The ringing in her ears was all she could hear, her vision was nothing but a blur of dust and echoes as the world was in chaos in disorder around her, she wiped at her eyes and readjusted her lens, she could hear two small beeps as it re-engaged and a few static transference's "Aliiii come in, do you copy?" "Ye..yess I'm here baby" she answered without addressing him properly, she didn't feel the need in this time to call him Sergeant, or whatever he thought he was and managed a small laugh as she said that to herself in her head.
"What's so damn funny!! Where is your location?" he commands at her, as she thinks to come back with a witty remark but she knew better to test his patience when he was like this. "I don't know!" she says back as she tries to prop up to see her surroundings and winces in pain "Fuc..shitt" she says as the pain seers thru her body. "What do you see?!!" he commands with frustration. "I, uh see" she pauses and lifts her hand to block out the blaring light. "The chopper, I see the tank" she says frantically as everything sets in as she can clearly see how much danger is around her. "Babyyyy where are you??" she says in panic.
"Look calm down and direct me Ali, otherwise you will die, we are running out of time!!" He shouts back. "I told you!! I see the chopper and the, um, the tank" she repeats as the blaring light is blocked out by his body and a hand is outstretched for her. "Baby lets go!!" he says as he reaches for her and a loud explosion nearly topples him onto her as the ground shakes beneath them. "Baby the chopper!! They hit the chopper!!" she screams as she tries to gain her strength to get up, her heart racing as she sees the tank bellow over the hillside. "Goooooo!!! Just goooo!! she screams at him as she fights to stand but can't "Nottttt a chance! Get up now, and move it!!" he says with a yank as she is pulled to her feet.
"Do not look, do not stop. do not do anything but get into the chopper, Do you understand me??!!" he commands as she is being dragged. "Ye..Yess!!" she says but the explosions drowned out her voice and all she could do is keep her feet moving as she kept up with him, his pace clearly outdoing hers as she felt her legs turning to rubber as she let out a sigh of relief as the chopper doors began to open. "Thank goodness" she says under her breath as she takes a step forward to grab the ladder that unrolled from the chopper, but suddenly she is yanked back and slams into his chest as he hugs her and leans into her ear "I love you and nothing will ever tear us apart" he says in her ear as he doesn't wish for a reply and nudges her to the ladder as she swings her foot up and he finds a playful side despite the world crashing down around them as he swats her bum "Heyy baddd Sergeant!" she says, with a laugh, as she is yanked up into the chopper and he follows in a quick pace as if he never had to use the ladder "Show off" she says in his ear as they are led out of the drama into safety
