Taxus baccata is a species of evergreen tree in the family Taxaceae, native to western, central and southern Europe (including the British Isles), northwest Africa, northern Iran, and southwest Asia. It is the tree originally known as yew, though with other related trees becoming known, it may now be known as common yew, English yew, or European yew. It is primarily grown as an ornamental.
As near as I can tell this is a young Cooper's Hawk. Feel free to correct me if you can make a more positive ID.
As the Rio Grande Zephyr traveled between Salt Lake City and Helper, the train faced the morning sun. An exception was three miles of track through Gilluly, where the right of way reversed direction through the Wasatch to keep the grade at or below 2%.
On April 11, 1976, train No. 18 has reversed direction at the lower horseshoe, and will return to an eastward facing direction at the upper horseshoe on the ascent to Soldier Summit.

Also known as a Sand Martin, this is a very rare visitor to our Southern state though more common in North India where they winter after migrating from the Pale Arctic region. They have a wide spread across much of Europe, Asia and even North America.
The birds are pretty small - maybe 12-14 cms and have a slow erratic flight path. They tend to catch the insects in flight making them pretty hard to shoot in flight. Two birds came to a city lake, I was lucky to have spotted them close. I sat on the ground trying to shoot some birds and this one came close by giving this wonderful opportunity. The birds are solo fliers unlike other swallows like the Barn Swallow or Streak Throated Swallow which fly in small groups. The Bank swallow joined others species, but it was flying alone with no other members of its species around.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

As quite a number of you have asked here is how I do the texture.
First of all you do need to have Photoshop, I am sure you can do it in another way but I don't know that and maybe someone else does.
He has been such a bad dog today! It's been raining, but he has found some mouldy old apple windfalls, and is determined that we will be out there throwing them for him to fetch. He wouldn't come inside, he wouldn't let me dry his feet, he didn't want to do anything that was asked of him - he has learned the power of "No", and, it seems, there is nothing we can do right now. He was so muddy as well...all the floors have needed a good clean as well as the dog himself! It may be, of course that he can't see a lot - he is booked in for a haircut next week....

As much as this scene begs to be displayed in traditional monochrome New topographics style it has so much more to offer in color.
The nuances of hues across the water and grass present themselves nicely in color as does the mist of the fountain.
But her beauty is only skin deep.......
As I had previously noted; humanity has bastardized nature by replacing streams with stagnant industrial ditches, waterfalls with fountains, and sad bronze statues where once herds of elk roamed.
The harder the landscape architects try to recreate nature in their 'functional public parks' the more they demonstrate the degree of change for natural wilderness.
New Topographic artists "primarily concerned with relationships of land to culture and the particularities of social existence"
"In reality there are no "before" pictures when photographing landscape. Only an endless sequence of "afters". book New topographics - photographs of a Man altered landscape. 1975 - page 41.
In example; this was an open midwest prairie. Then a working farm in the 1800's. now a sprawling industrial park. And someday as Chicagoland expands into the the suburbs the land will again be transformed into a row of high-rise apartments.
And yes, that's an airplane attesting to our effects upon the skies as well. No, contrails are not beautiful !!!!!
as evening returns
at the end of the day . . .
autumn leaves remain
before they slip and fall away
the tree awaits . . .
for once they have gone
it will be time for the tree
to sing it's winter's song !

As far as temperatures and the general weather situation are concerned, autumn has returned today.
So after yesterday's spring fever, let's carefully approach reality.
However, so that the transition doesn't feel so violent, we'll start without fog, rain or snow for the time being.
Instead, we find ourselves on an October morning in the Königsbrück Heather and admire the sight of the autumn-colored red-gold ferns on the forest floor, lit up by the newly risen sun.

As Samara munched happily on her favorite sushi roll, her delight was cut short by Belle’s soft sniffling. She turned her gaze from her plate to her best friend, Belle.
“What’s wrong?” Her eyes wide in worry. “Is it musty? Are they…crusty?” Her eyes darted from her friend’s tearful face and then down to the can of Vienna Sausages cupped safely in Belle’s hand as if she were holding a delicate jewel.
Belle’s exhaled heavily. “No….” Her cheeks flushed and soaked from her somber tears. Belle gazed longingly at the can of Vienna Sausages. “I just miss him.”
Thanks for doing this photo with me. It was a treat. :D
As I passed by this scene I could just imagine tiny creatures living on these little islands. I woneder what they thought of Giant me intruding on their space??? Kris..
As the sky turned into dreams above the ocean,
and the spectators long waited for it to turn that;
it became THE ONE moment.
🌅 we went out sea shoring sunsetting with friends - and had some snacks and gossips on life and partnerships and direction - and how we'd adore med from near the ocean, away from the chaotic city lives and sadness and troubles of the humans.
how are you, friends? sending December greetings, and wishes 💕

regarding last post, couldn't get back to you all - but I'd, slow by slow.
As its name implies, the Common Darter is a frequently encountered dragonfly, about 4cm in length and span.
As the waterlily leaves unfurl, they create wonderful sheltered retreats for frogs who enjoy having a sunbathe in their very own bucket chair.

The same waterfalls as in the previous shot, just taken from a different side and angle. With plenty of rainfall as of late, the falls were even more impressive than usually. There were only few tourists around, which made taking pictures easier.
前回と同じ滝なのですが、反対側から撮りました。訪ねた日には、観光客はわりと少なくて、撮りやすかったです。
As legend has it long before Cv-19, Lord Berkeley used to sit up on top smoking his pipe, and dangling his feet over the edge enjoying the views hence the name Lord Berkeley's Seat.
The whole face of An Teallach is undercut at this point, so the exposure is dramatic right down to the paddling pool below.
Here's to dipping our toes in the cooling waters again!
PS - special kudos to anyone who can get a bearing on my bright red tent as in "Where's Wally"? Best advice to view in double large for any tryers out there.🎪
As the sun settles over the Red Sea,
the water opens into a path of gold.
A lone boat moves quietly between horizon and light —
crossing the evening before it disappears.
Red Sea, December.
As we sailed through Doubtful Sound, low clouds and mist drifted lazily over the water and mountains, shrouding the landscape in an ethereal veil. With every turn of the boat, we seemed to slip further into a mysterious world, where the boundaries between land, sea, and sky blurred.
Punctuated only by the gentle movement of the boat, we were completely silenced by the sense of wonder, as if we had entered a hidden realm untouched by time.
As dusk approached, I photographed this adult grey fox on a tree branch scanning for prey. These animals possess unique, hooked claws, allowing them to climb trees effortlessly. They are the only canid species with this trait. A truly remarkable animal!

Between Lochan na Fola and the somewhat inaccurately names ‘Meeting of the Three Waters’ waterfall there is a layby on the northern side of the A82. I pulled in with the idea of setting up on the road to get an S-bend shot looking westwards. I got the shot but it was a bit ‘blah’ to my mind so for once I remembered my drone in the boot of the car and decided I’d see what I could get. This is the result. I think it’s better than the ones I got from the road and from climbing up on a small bank alongside the layby.
