Evenstow is a fictitious harbour/resort in North Devon, somewhere "beyond" Barnstaple. The time is the late
1920s /mid 1930s. Baseboards are plywood, with ground contours built up from expanded polystyrene, covered with
dish-cloth material as reinforcement, and coated with Artex. Scenic dressings are generally by Woodland Scenics; trees
are generally from Heki kits. The layout is to P4 standards, using steel rail, C&L and Exactoscale chairs, ply sleepers and
point timbers, laid on 3mm cork. Dummy point-rodding utilises Model Signal Engineering components, the rodding being
27 SWG piano wire. Facing point locks are scratch-built. Point and signal operation is by Hoffman motors, signals being
Ratio. Buildings are generally scratch-built from styrene sheet, augmented with kits where suitable are available. Locos
and rolling stock are a mixture of kit-based and ready to run, modified where appropriate, and with added detail. Couplings
are Alex Jackson, uncoupling being effected through just three strategically placed electro-magnets.
The sequence of operations is intended to represent a typical weekday at Evenstow.
I found this door frame behind some fitted wardrobes. Part of the plaster hiding the door came off with the wardrobes. I removed the rest of it. Also behind the wardrobes was a section of wood chip wall paper. The rest of the room is heavy duty artex.

This is the very first quilt I ever made, well.. sort of. In 1980 I did artex paint a bunch of sun bonnet sues that were put on a blanket for the flower girl in my wedding. In 1981 I artex'ed some cardinals and sewed them on a bedspread type blanket for my grandmother. In 1983 I artex'd a baby quilt for liz while I was pg with her. Hmmm. .. I have no idea whatever happened to that! But this is the first real 'quilt' I made. I used scraps of the kids clothes (made all their clothes when they were little) and one day took out these boxes of fabric, cut out a 4 inch (approx) square of cardboard, and traced the darn thing all over the materials with colored pencils. Must have cut out a million of them things! LOL. Put them in a grocery bag and shook it good. Let Liz pick out squares for me to put together in the quilt. I made these huge long strips of one square width (this is about queen sized quilt and the squares wrap around the end and half way back up the back, LOL). Sewed the strips together. Filled with an old blanket and lined with a sheet. only did about 3 or 4 rows of 'quilting' as I did not baste it and I 'closed it' all around before quilting and so the materials all bunched up, so I quit quilting, LOL. But I still use this quilt every day!!!!! and I made it in 1986!
This painting is one of delight and wonder as the magic and life of this city sparkled before me. I love the technique of using gold paint as a beautiful metallic base for my artwork and I also mix this rich hue with other colours to highlight the energy and light of a subject.

At this stage the prop was pristine and the Artex and weathering had yet to be applied. Since the test filming at Ealing Studios, all the door handles had been removed and the phone panel surround was yet to be painted blue. The sign graphics were also absent from the right lintel. The St John's Ambulance logo was a simplified prop version compared to the original
A new lampshade in the living room! At this point, Malin had painted about half of the room (including the fireplace!).

VWS3357 © VW Selburn 2015: The new porch ceiling is now up. It does not look pretty just now, but the artex (photo to come) will cover the joins and the screw heads. There is more work to do on fixing up the frames which will fit around the lights.
