Sanding plaster.....now the pooey sander has stopped working...I really don't want to do the rest by hand! :P
I shall artex the ceiling for a bit and see if it recovers.
The trick to getting a Tatooine look, whether your walls are cardboard, foamboard, polystyrene or whatever, is plaster. If you use polystyrene, you might want to sand it down first. It roughens the surface up and removes whatever markings or lettering might be embossed on it, which means you don't have to slap the plaster on too thick, unless you want to!
I use wall filler I buy from Poundland, which works quite well, and apply with various implements (another messy job). I create texture by 'dabbing' the wet plaster with a piece of kitchen towel or bandage, and sometimes by sprinkling on actual sand. These particular buildings are made from the 'granulated' type of polystyrene, which doesn't always hold plaster too well, so I had to apply it more than once in certain problem areas. On the plus side, it does give a nice impression of crumbling, neglected masonry, ideal for Tatooine.
Once it's dry, I sand it down (best done outside) then spray it with yellow or sand colour paint. Tamiya's Dark Yellow is best, but it's expensive, so lately I've been using some bright yellow car paint (it was cheap!) Bear in mind that paint, and indeed glue, may dissolve the polystyrene to some extent - you might want to test it first.
I then overspray with white to tone it down, then I get to weatherin', with white, black, yellow and various shades of brown. Watercolours, or watered down acrylics, are best for this. How much you apply is up to you. I've never known whether it's more authentic to mimic the original dirty-white, but smooth, Tunisian locations (which were coastal, and subject to rain), the sound stage sets at Elstree (which appear to be covered with white Artex, a rough flexible coating used on walls and ceilings), or the custom-built Mos Espa set from the prequels, which seems to be a streaky, orangey-sandy colour. A mix of all three seems to be the happiest medium, bearing in mind that the colour will be less obvious in a photo.
Anyway, I hope this has been of some use and interest!

I was once given some great advice on photography. Don't forget to look behind you!
Sure, this was relevant to travel photography, where people tend to look at where they are going, rather than the view of where they've travelled from. However, its equally applicable to not forget to look up, because you might spot patterns / lighting characteristics that are more appealing than the side on view.
My advice? Look everywhere. But try not to look crazy while you go about it :)
Evenstow is a fictitious harbour/resort in North Devon, somewhere "beyond" Barnstaple. The time is the late
1920s /mid 1930s. Baseboards are plywood, with ground contours built up from expanded polystyrene, covered with
dish-cloth material as reinforcement, and coated with Artex. Scenic dressings are generally by Woodland Scenics; trees
are generally from Heki kits. The layout is to P4 standards, using steel rail, C&L and Exactoscale chairs, ply sleepers and
point timbers, laid on 3mm cork. Dummy point-rodding utilises Model Signal Engineering components, the rodding being
27 SWG piano wire. Facing point locks are scratch-built. Point and signal operation is by Hoffman motors, signals being
Ratio. Buildings are generally scratch-built from styrene sheet, augmented with kits where suitable are available. Locos
and rolling stock are a mixture of kit-based and ready to run, modified where appropriate, and with added detail. Couplings
are Alex Jackson, uncoupling being effected through just three strategically placed electro-magnets.
The sequence of operations is intended to represent a typical weekday at Evenstow.

"The dynamic form of the 'neagari matsu' pine tree."
www.kanazawastation.com/kenrokuen-garden/
---------------------------------
•This black pine tree is one of the Kenrokuen garden’s famous sights. Its name literally means “rising root pine,” and the 15-meter tall tree combined with its 40 roots of varying sizes rising as much as two meters off the ground is a stunning sight to behold.
According to records, Maeda Nariyasu, the 13th lord of Kaga Domain, originally piled up a mound of earth and planted the tree on top of it; as such, its roots were originally covered by soil, but as it grew the roots became exposed. Also serving as the derivation of the former town of Neagari, in 1978 it was designated the town’s first Cultural Property. Today, a cedar bark-lined path passes by the tree, and many visitors strolling the garden take a moment to stop and admire the view.

Our Beloved Garden
Many people associate Kanazawa city with its stunning Japanese garden, Kenroku-En. One of the three great gardens of Japan, guidebooks often list it as a must-see attraction.
The three Chinese characters that make up its name reveal the philosophy behind the garden.
The first character, “ken”, means to hold multiple functions. The middle one, “roku”, is the number six. The final character, “en”, signifies garden. All together the name literally means “a garden with six functions”. So what are these functions, and who decided them?
They are derived from a Chinese poem composed about the nineteen great gardens of China. Kenroku-En has six features in direct contradiction of each other.
The closest English equivalent to these pairings would be spaciousness and profoundness, artificialness and antiquity, water fountain landscapes and mountain panoramas.
This once-private garden for Lord Maeda officially opened to the public in 1872.
An entrance free was introduced in 1976, though residents of Ishikawa prefecture are exempt on weekends. It is also free to everyone during New Year’s and days designated for enjoying the beauty of nature, such as during the cherry blossom season and harvest moon.
Located in the heart of downtown, its not uncommon to see the residents of nearby homes walking or jogging around the premises. The garden is not only a popular destination for tourists, but a beloved park for the citizens as well.

The cattle were not in the field when I crossed it to walk to the river. I could see that they were all young, but also that there were a lot more of them than me, so I walked purposefully to the gate.

Its been a decade now since Artex Compound in Bgy. Panghulo, Malabon City has been submerged in chest-deep floodwater. Despite having water everywhere in the compound, the residents don’t have direct access to clean and portable water. They row their boats daily to fill up an average of eight 5-gallon containers at the water pump by the gate, then row back to their homes to use the water to wash their dishes, clothes, and themselves.
When I was a child I used to have difficulties sleeping at night.
To pass the time I used to stick my feet up in the air and imagine I was crunching across the artex ceiling.
I wanted nothing more than to live in an upside down house!!

O que é::
