The first recipient of the residency staged under the auspices of the Art & Science Network is MarÃa Ignacia Edwards (CHL). She was selected from among the 140+ applicants from 40 countries and will be spending her residency at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile and at the Ars Electronica Futurelab in Austria. the full mirror - which is about 55cm in diameter.
it is made up a variety of recycled materials: glass vases, ceramic tiles, wine bottle & Bombay Gin bottle glass; bon bon dishes, gilt liqueur glasses, fused glass, dichonic glass; and gilded glass which has been painted on the reverse and mirror
One experiemental bit is the dark blue background which is made from shards from the local paperweight factory which were fused into a sheet of glass - predominately blue, but bits of green, clear & red too - which i then cut up for the mosaic.
This piece has been submitted to the Mosaic Art Now magazine; and will be on sale in due course... if i can find somewhere to sell it for me!
