Wood Duck. Best Viewed Large On Black Their breeding habitat is wooded swamps, shallow lakes, marshes or ponds in eastern North America, the west coast of the United States and western Mexico. They usually nest in cavities in trees close to water, although they will take advantage of nesting boxes in wetland locations if available. The wood duck tends to fly for prolonged periods of time after reproducing. Their personality is shy and skittish. IMG_4347

Located in the inner-city, the barbwire on the gate and fence are not exactly an endorsement of the neighborhood. This building and the one posted to the right have portal windows.

On our last day in Granada we had lunce at this very excellent vegan restaurant. Below is one persons impression as found on Trip Advisor.

Vegan food with street art charms. Hicuri will feed your hungry belly with some great tasting vegan food and your hungry mind with some fine street art made by none other than El Nino de la Pinturas, who made Granada famous for his works on the streets in this area. Enjoyed the views and the smell and the taste of Hicuri Burger and mixture of croqets. Not sure that meat lovers would spot the difference on a blind taste. This burger has all that you wish for when you order this kind of food. Don't miss this place if you get your strength from plants.

I used two elements to create this.

We recently had new windows installed and hadn't replaced the blinds or curtains yet. I noticed that after dark a light on a building across the way caused the pebbled, frosted window in the bathroom to sparkle. It also had some silhouettes of tree branches on it. So I took several photos and used one for my background, turned sideways, & cloned the sparkly parts to hide the tree silhouettes.

I was playing with a new app on my iPad called Flame Painter. I used one of the abstract images I created as an overlay over the window photo. It has a black background which hides much of the window, but leaves a hint of the sparkly effect.

Detail of an illustration from "The First Book of Snakes," by John Hoke, with illustrations by Paul Wenck. Franklin Watts, Inc., NY, Revised edition, first printing, 1952, 1956.

I have several "first book" textbook, and many times they contain bland illustrations and lackluster text. But this one was true find--the gorgeous line drawings and unique snakeskin endpapers caught my eye.

This illustration was cropped from a page explaining the mythological importance of snakes in world cultures.

I've mentioned this a few times before, but art is helping me get through this terrible season. I have my faith and hope for better days, but witnessing joy and passion for creativity feels tangible. So, I revisited these photos tonight after doom scrolling, and they lifted my spirits.

The irony I see at last reality is my perception and my personality is my reflection. - Taproot
