One of my favourites from Upfest. This was in a residential street so I was glad that someone walked past to give the art a sense of scale ...

abstract digital art:

all elements of this image were created by me

I've had an idea about painting on canvas and then using a needle to poke through the canvas and add threads to the image. It's fun to try it digitally to see what it might look like. My idea was to have the threads all hang vertically and be lose at the bottom. It seems that horizontal threads would either have to be stretched straight across the canvas or hang in lose arcs unless I stitch in and out of the canvas to made them wavy. Or perhaps I can have the threads cross over each other, so it is impossible to tell which thread is which.

October 19, 2018: I've finally gotten around to woking on a handmade work based on this image. It is actually quite different in color, composition and even in the shape of the canvas (square). Once it is completed, I'll take a photo and post it, then add a link to it here. It will probably take me a few more days to complete it.

See another recent work I created using thread:

Judy's Hand...

This is a 7-ton, 21-foot-high sculpture of a hand on the plaza just the east of the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (MOCA). Chicago artist Tony Tasset created the sculpture from a cast of his wife's hand for the 2018 FRONT International Cleveland Triennial art exhibition. The piece was co-commissioned by Case Western Reserve and is a permanent installation.

Thanks to AndC for the spot and help. It rained while I was painting this and a swarm of mosquitos ravaged my legs with more than 100 bites. They looked like two blood red, blotchy twiglets by the time I was finished. Fun day and inspiring place.

If this looks familiar to some, it is because it's a recrop of a photo already in my photostream. This variation was suggested in feedback from a Flickr friend Matt (a.k.a. Facing The World) who suggested I try cropping some off the top and the left side.

Cropping is an art form in and of itself and one is always learning. Non-photographers often criticize portraits that have part of the hat or the top of the head cropped, even though doing so can frequently result in a more intimate connection to the all-important eyes.

With the original crop of this photo I was lazy and left too much foliage to the left which did not contribute much so getting rid of it makes sense (thanks Matt).

In my original version of the photo, frankly, I got hung up on including all of her hair, thinking it was essential to the portrait.

Flickr is a place for displaying but also for learning. One must remain open to feedback from friends so here is the suggested version. I have included the original (below) to make the comparison easier.

As is so often the case, tastes vary and there is not always a right or wrong. I leave it to you to decide which you like best and either way I think you will agree that she's a beauty.

Although I still have a handful of Amsterdam photos, it's the weekend and time for a break! I've been doing a bit of drawing during the last couple of weeks, and have come up with these of Paris and Amsterdam, to go up in our newly decorated dining room! I do look at them and wish I'd done things a touch differently, but they'll do for now!!

Alternate title: Angry Clown with Frog Hat.

This started as a photo of a flower. I was just playing with the paintshop tools. I think this was a collage effect, and a rotating mirror effect. That's when this fellow jumped out.
