Fallow bucks returning to Epping Forest - tension in the forest is palpable - maybe an early rut.

Not the remnants of a shipwreck as one might like to imagine but those of 17th century sea defences. There are examples of these all along the Thames Estuary. Oak timbers supported a mound of chalk and ragstone upon which an earth wall faced with stone was built. It took until the mid 20th century and a major disaster before they realised these structures probably weren't up to the job any longer. "They" being our public servants of the time. Search Wiki for "North Sea Flood of 1953" to get some context...

Sarcoscypha austriaca - scarlet elf cups found from late winter through to early spring and a real favourite with me. These were found at a site in the Lee Valley (UK) and are an annual feature.

A lovely misty morning in Clydesdale with the first real frost of the season... autumn is here!

Airy, bit damp, creaks in the wind. Dress warmly.

Redshank feeding in the Colne estuary, Essex, UK. When the weather is this overcast an option is a high key image. Tringa totanus

I normally shoot wildlife and am really just venturing into macro - this was my first attempt playing around a Laowa 60mm 2:1 on the Canon R5. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of all of the settings used, and as it's a totally manual lens, without any electrical contacts, it doesn't store the usual EXIF data.

If you look super close there's a small louse of some sort, wandering around on the shell.

Many thanks to everyone who comments or faves my shots.

A view taken around sunrise of the temperature inversion filling the Ribble and Aire Valleys.

These are horse chestnut trees on Woodford Green, UK on the border between London and Essex. Between the main trees and the background runs the main Woodford High Road so you have to be quick to avoid the ceaseless traffic. In fact the flowers are cream coloured but I prefer the strawberry blossoms which I see elsewhere - So I changed ours in my picture.

A long exposure of a water pumping station just after sunrise.

Tensions have been mounting all week in the clubhouse. Now it's time to let it all go...

Corny but irresistible..

Another beautiful misty morning in Epping Forest - started in local woods before dawn and the tawny owls were still calling - a good start to the week.

How are you today...?

Indian silk-moth newly emerged from its cocoon. Butterfly house in Icod, Tenerife. So good to see the group still operating after so many mishaps.

Just picking through some older photos at the moment... with (hopefully) some new photo opportunities coming up this weekend. I've been taking more shots 'from the hip' which is a hit and miss affair to say the least! I love discovering my captures later though, this being one of them :).

Thanks for looking... and a very Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrates it!

Whisps of mist drifting in front of Stanage Edge just before Sunrise.

A statement? Unfathomable to me but I think skilfully done nevertheless.

The thing I love this area are the hills. I've lived in other places which are flatter, but never feel at home unless I'm surrounded by hills. Of course, it means there are a few steep roads to climb... this being one of them!

Thanks for looking!

Not my usual thing, and definitely not used to photography with high ISO and a heavy lens with no tripod.. A fine cheetah spotted up on a termite mound looking for food. There was some Impala to the left but nothing was caught while we waited patiently at Hwange Camp, Hwange National Park
