** Cliché Alert ** There is an unwritten law that says if you are holding a camera in your hand and see some old boats beached at low tide, you must photograph them. Especially if there are 3 of them. Red is a bonus point. Under no circumstances can they be new, shiny or expensive.
We are an island nation. So who am I to argue…?

The castle is situated on the Laich of Moray, a fertile plain that was once the swampy foreshore of Spynie Loch. This was originally a more defensive position than it appears today, long after the loch was drained.
Speke Hall is a wood-framed wattle-and-daub Tudor manor house in Speke, Liverpool, England. It is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind. It is owned by the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building. Wikipedia
The taking of this image was tricky. I was not allowed to use a tripod in the Big Top, not allowed to stand up or move from my designated seat and not allowed to use flash... so, it is what it is and the best I could do at the time.
I couldn't resist a close-up of this beautiful orchid. I was lucky this year to have a sneaky trip out before work on a morning with perfect conditions. In the days that followed we had heavy rain and the blooms were largely ruined. Evolved to mimic a certain species of bee to aid pollination the blooms take on an exotic feel. The bee in question no longer exists in the UK and the flowers are self pollinating. According to Wikipedia species of bees do contribute to pollination in the Mediteranean area, the flowers emiting a female bee pheromone so attracting male bees along with the visual mimicry. Fascinating stuff....biology lecture over!!

An entry to World Photography Day 2022. I had to be super quick with setting this shot. Geese typically announce their arrival noisily, but at that moment my camera was switched off, the lens cap was still on and my settings were as I had left them from the day before (a static shot). A hasty adjustment was made and I clicked. So whilst it may not stand up to close scrutiny as just a bird shot, with that sky I’d like to think the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Just a view of a central street in London, between theatre, bars. restaurants and various activities. Life in a busy city as London.
Softer yellows and browns replace the more strident greens and magentas across the heaths as August rolls into September. Autumn beckons, a lovely time of year this transition period.
A recent 2 week trip to Northumberland resulted in some memorable conditions including a small matter of the aurora! Having never seen the Lights anywhere before to say this was a treat is an understatement, particularly in my favourite part of the world. A red alert pinged at a very respectable early evening hour and staying within a 5 minute drive of the beach saw us there almost before anyone else. Little did we know the treat would be repeated later in the week with a much stronger display but this view remains my favourite as it was one of the first and most exciting!!
Probably the best mist I'd seen here to date - filled the shallow valley but left enough detail for interest. It was almost an hour before sunrise when I arrived - a warm pink glow showing through the mist. There are a few popular compositions near this spot in the New Forest and I wanted something a little different. This was probably only 200yds from the car but even by this stage the light was changing rapidly. The foreground was still in total darkness so manual focusing via headtorch was the order of the day - and thank goodness for modern sensors and AI noise reduction!!

I love this shop... there's so much to see... especially when they have a sale on ;-)
Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday!
Many gravestones offer grim reminders of our brief tenure on planet Earth, the most poignant are the memorials to the young who didn’t get their fair chance to life.
A recent trip to Switzerland and up to the "Top of Europe" at Jungfraujoch. 3,400m. Such a beautiful day with this panorama being done as a lovely cloud inversion over the glacier was gradually rolling back under the late afternoon light. I'm lucky enough to have visited this spot a couple of times but the conditions on this recent occasion were spectacular if a little nippy at -16 with lots of added windchill on top!!
From a Sunday morning g admiring the surfers doing there thing in pretty big waves in La Santa. It was very talented surfers riding these big waves in what to me (I know nothing about surfing) looks a quite tight area close to some fearsome rocks. So big respect top the guys & girls that do there thing in these conditions.
They were also ably supported by a few jet skis who were bringing them back after the action to have another run at it.
Unusually for Ayrshire we've a bit of fog hanging around, it rolled in from the sea again about 3 so I grabbed the camera and dashed out to the highest local spot I could find where I was briefly above the fog. Glad I made the effort, it was a wonderful sight.
Former quarry and landfill site becomes natural habitat. Some things we get right…
