While I was wandering around St. Peter's Square (Piazza San Pietro), I started to recall some of the striking scenes right there from the book and movie "Angels and Demons":-) Then I was attracted by these colossal Tuscan colonnades (a long sequence of columns) surrounding the huge forecourt ,with exquisite colors and fine textures, designed by Bernini in the sixteenth century.

If anyone thinks its simple to take a shot like this please think again as I worked my self into a right old lather to finally get the shot I envisioned in my mind-this 365 business is a real eye opener !!!
Each of the beads on this bracelet signifies a part of what I experienced in 2009 -(following on from what I explained about health and family matters on yesterdays shot)...so there are beads for each half stone I lost and some that have significance in personal ways about support and strength ..and some from family as gifts for my achievement
Now this year I have to earn every one of these back again
The Castel Sant'Angelo appeared in Dan Brown's 2000 novel Angels and Demons. The location served as the secret lair for the Hassassin and was seen as the last existing church of the Illuminati and where he kept the four abducted cardinals of the Catholic church.
The book and the movie featured the Passetto di Borgo, an elevated passage where protagonists Robert Langdon and Vittoria Vetra used as a shortcut to the Vatican City.
Apart from being a great movie from start to finish (contrary to its prequel The Da Vinci Code which was a bit disappointing), watching Angels and Demons made me re-live and re-discover my appreciation of these landmarks in Rome I visited two years ago.
So, where will the weekend bring you? Looks like it'd be a DVD weekend for me. :-)
Enjoy the weekend, friends!
First thing that hit us on entering was the way the sun shone through a side window right across the room.......fantastic blue light !!

In my mind I see them
lurking in the old world roots.
Looking out from beneath the moss, covered in muck and filth, they seek out souls with there snoots.
The demons climb out one by one, following the branch's out into the world, wearing suits.
Screaming loudly and frighting as they go, scary, nasty, hellish brutes.
Eating souls and haunting the minds, they find there victims and send the leftovers down the chutes.
Angels rush in, in our defense, chasing them back to the darkest of places. Singing and playing there sweet soulful flutes.
Eternal Conflict: Angels & Demons
The Village of Eskiyurt may have been lost. Yet, a mysterious presence remained. The lost soul, as the hosts of angels and hordes of demons knew him, offered insight to those who would help him on his mission to retrieve his body. The lost soul was drawn to a curious statue, and once he entered its confines – a mysterious voice put both Angel and Demon to the test. Once they’d successfully completed the challenge, the lost soul was allowed to merge with the body the statue contained. Once the lost soul and body had merged; the Guardian of Eskiyurt was revealed.
Eternal Conflict: Angels & Demons
Eskiyurt itself was a vibrant and beautiful little town. With the coming of the great evil, the War of Sacrilege, the lush outskirts of the village masked the true horror that had befallen the now decimated village. If not for the stench that filled the air, you could be forgiven for being woefully unaware of the brutal massacre that had taken place not too far away.

This fully working toy camera takes 16mm film on a paper backing. Before taking it with me on a short trip to Rome, I re-rolled some expired 16mm FP4 film onto an original backing paper. There are copious amounts of dust on the film, and various scratches and other blemishes, but for me they add to the charm of the images from this tiny, very simple working toy.

The X-33 space plane roared into the sky and arced south toward Rome. On board, Langdon sat in silence. The last fifteen minutes had been a blur. Now that he had finished briefing Vittoria on the Illuminati and their covenant against the Vatican, the scope of this situation was starting to sink in.

Bodies littered the temple. The charred remains emitted the foul stench of death. It would have been too much for any mere mortal to stand, had any survived. It was in this temple that the devout of Eskiyurt had tried to seek refuge. They were only met with their demise before they could set foot into it’s consecrated halls.

Eternal Conflict: Angels & Demons
A great calamity had fallen upon the remote and once unknown Village of Eskiyurt. If you listened closely you could hear the desperate pleading cries, of those long dead, still echoing across the land. They begged for mercy. They begged for deliverance. Neither would come. Only death and war.
The Angel with the Superscription is one of ten marble angels commissioned by Pope Clement IX to breathe new life into the ancient Pons Aelius bridge in Rome. The ten angels were all designed by the workshop of Bernini but only two of the sculptures, the Angel with the superscription and the Angel with the Crown of Thorns, were carved by his own hand.
The two copies that stand on the bridge today are the 2nd iterations of the angels: upon seeing two first two angels carved by Bernini, the pope deemed them too beautiful to be placed outdoors and demanded that they be sent to his hometown.
The statues were never transferred, however, they remained in Bernini's possession until after his death, when they were then transferred to the church of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte, where they still reside today.

EXPLORED July 15, 2009.
Mexico city, Mexico.
These photos were taken on a Mexico trip back in January, 2009.
Since the 1500s, a regiment of Swiss soldiers have served as the bodyguard for the pope. Swiss mercenaries in the past were known to be very loyal to their employers and very dependable too. At present, only one regiment of those "original" Swiss guards exist -- the Papal Swiss Guard. The Swiss guards in the Vatican are in charge of protecting the pope, and the areas around the Apostolic Palace.
This guard stands near a massive door, close to the Apostolic Palace. They have different costumes. Usually, at night up to early morning, they are dressed in black and dark blue, the in the morning and afternoon, you can see them in traditional Blue, Orange and Red.

Yeah i know its a deep question, so feel free to answer if you wish
Below is the SOOC version
I was referring to the movie "Angels and Demons", not the girl and the man in the picture.
I watched the movie today and it was great! It is even better that even though I have read the book before, I have forgotten most parts of it so the finale was really good!
Just got off from watching the movie "Angels and Demons". I would say their special effects group did a good job replicating all scenes within the Vatican. Just in case you did not know, the movie director had many photographers take photos inside the Basilica and other sites of the Vatican -- and then they replicated the whole thing using CGI -- since they were never allowed to film inside the Vatican -- for obvious reasons.
The series of shots you have been seeing here(and you will be seeing from my stream) are scenes that are similar to those taken from that movie -- but these are more original -- as Tom Hanks was never allowed inside the Vatican's hollowed grounds.

Shot taken just outside (the courtyard) of the Pantheon. The Pantheon was built in 126AD. It is now a Roman Catholic Church(since the 4th Century) -- but the date 126AD -- there was no Roman Catholic church yet -- at this time, Christians were massacred all over Rome as the Roman Empire attempted to kill all of them. More on the Pantheon later....
This is part of the filming site for "Angels and Demons".
