Anandham Swamimalai- The 1896bangla is set amidst a lush 5.5 acre coconut rove, radiating peace and harmony. The tranquil surroundings reverberate the values of Shri. Shankaracharya, the late Hindu Pontiff, who lived here. Though an ancient bangla, the rooms have been equipped to suit comforts of today's international tourists, without disturbuting the harmony and design. Infact, when the sun sets, the house radiates. Cherie O' Shea of New Zealand, is right when she said "If you are in South India, Anandham Swamimalai is amust". Infact it is not a hotel, but a destination by itself.

verwitterten Stauferlöwen,
die eher mit Wölfen Ähnlichkeit haben.

Esta torre. Portal del final de la disnastía Staufer, es la más antigua y conservada torre de la ciudad. Protegía el paso desde la torre Obertor-vorstadt al centro de la ciudad. Los dos leones en cuclillas, son un bello ejemplo plástico de la época del románico tardío, los cuales anuncian a los visitantes, que la ciudad está protegida bajo la disnastía de los duques suabos.
-Das Wolfstor aus der späten Stauferzeit ist der älteste erhaltene Torturm der Stadt. Es schützte einst den Zugang von der Obertorvorstadt in die Kernstadt. Die beiden kauernden Löwen, schöne Beispiele spätromanischer Großplastik, kündeten Besuchern wie Angreifern, dass die Stadt unter dem Schutz der Schwäbischen Herzöge stand.

The Wolfstor Gate Tower from the late Staufer period is the oldest remaining gate tower of the city. It once protected the entrance from the Obertor suburb into the medieval town centre. The two crouching lions, excellent examples of late-Romanesque sculpture, informed visitors and attackers alike that the city was under the protection of the Swabian Dukes.

La tour Wolfstor qui date de l’époque des Staufer est la plus ancienne porte encore intacte. Elle protégeait l’entrée par la banlieue du haut à la cité. Les deux lions couchés qui sont de superbes exemples de plastique de l’époque romaine tardive rappelaient aux visiteurs tout comme aux attaquants que la ville était sous la protection des ducs souabes.

Il Wolfstor che risale ai tardi tempi degli Staufer, è la torre più vecchia ancora esistente della citta. Una volta serviva come porta che controllava l’accesso dal quartiere di periferia Obertor al centro città .I due leoni vigilanti che sono due esempi di plastiche grandi tardoromaniche ,preavvisavano sia i visitatori sia potenziali aggressori che la città era sotto il dominio e la protezione dei duchi della Svevia.

Zu den besten Zeiten waren ca. 30 Wächter im Wachdienst.
Schon 1303 wurde eine Burg erwähnt.
1870 war nur noch ein Wächter im Dicken Turm (Hauptgebäude)
Esslinger 'Burg': Stadteigene Wehranlage zum Schutz der Burger (= ~Bürger).
Hochwacht (1501) mit Schenkelmauern, Dicker Turm (1527) und Seilergang, Pulverturm, Schütte, Burggraben und Mélachäuschen umgibt den inneren Burgplatz.

Viele Landseiler waren Wanderer.
Es bedurfte vieler Hände um ein langes Seil (Trosse,Tau) herzustellen.
Seil, plattdeutsch "Reep", englisch "rope".
Der Beruf "Sailer" wurde auch Reepschläger genannt.
Die Seilerbahn, Reeperbahn, wurde im Sailergang aufgeschlagen.
Die Verdrillung, Schlagrichtung der Seile konnte die Güte des Seiles bestimmen.

Das Wort Bürger leitet sich von burga (ahd. ‚Schutz‘) ab, ursprünglich ein befestigter Wohnsitz, eine Burg,
in dem sich Gewerbetreibende und Händler niederließen.
In der mittelalterlichen Verfassung einer Stadt war ein Bürger ein vollwertiges Mitglied der Gemeinschaft, der alle Rechte und Pflichten genoss.
Im Englischen ist borough (und speziell in Schottland in der Form burgh) als Bezeichnung für eine Stadt mit Stadtrechten, also für eine freie Stadt, weiterhin gebräuchlich.
Als "Burg" gelten alle bewohnbaren Wehrbauten, die von einer Person oder Gemeinschaft zu ihrem Schutz als ständiger oder zeitweiliger Wohnsitz errichtet wurden.
Burgen werden in deutschen Schriftquellen gewöhnlich als
burc, slos, burclich buwe, hus bzw. festes hus
bezeichnet.
Teil der ehemaligen Stadtbefestigung, 1314 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt.
Der Dicke Turm ist das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Esslingen. Er wurde 1527 als Teil der Stadtbefestigung erbaut. 5 Meter dicke Mauern sollten den neuen Feuerwaffen widerstehen.
Der Turmhelm wurde 1887 aufgesetzt. 1976/77 wurden der Turm und die Außenanlagen renoviert.
Vom gleichnamigen Restaurant, das heute im Dicken Turm untergebracht ist, hat man einen herrlichen Blick über Esslingen und seine Nachbargemeinden.
Auf dem Weg zurück Richtung Marktplatz hat man einen schönen Blick auf die Esslinger Burg. Sie war nie Adelssitz, sondern bildet den nördlichen Teil der Stadtbefestigung. Zwischen 1519 und 1531 wurde die Anlage mit Türmen und Mauern verstärkt. Auch der so genannte Dicke Turm stammt aus dieser Zeit. Die auf die Stadtmauer aufgesetzte Hochwacht, zu der man von der Stadt aus durch einen steilen Wehrgang gelangt, diente vor allem als „Ausguck“ für die Feuerwache.

The spire was set up 1887. 1976/77 were the tower and the exterior restored. From the eponymous restaurant - now in "The Thick Tower", aka 'Der Dicke Turm' is located in the tower itself - one has a magnificent view of Esslingen and its neighboring communities.

We headed out of town for the Victoria Day long weekend and a family wedding. Beginnings don't get much better than breakfast at an amazing little place called Pan Chancho in Kingston, Ontario. Cafe, bakery, mouthwatering French Toast, Eggs Bennie, Pain au Chocolat, the most amazing lattes, friendly smiles and just the easiest, quiet morning feeling. Even this quick snap is making me want another helping of that hour.
