I will be posting 3 photos of the upper falls over the next few days. I did not shoot the larger, lower falls this time. This place is about 90 minutes away from me.

20-second exposure achieved with a 4-stop IRND filter. My 24-70mm zoom is really the perfect lens for shooting falls.

Tripod, remote shutter; all the normal long exposure gear.

Not cropped. Not HDR. Zoom in and enjoy the detail.

The GDF Suez Onyx Power coal plant [DHV Architects] is one of two recently built coal plants on the Maasvlakte.

A recent court ruling forced the Netherlands to reduce CO2 emissions by 2020 by at least 25%. Now the government is heading for just 17%. Urgenda [an organization for sustainability and innovation] had filed the lawsuit, arguing that the government has a duty of care to the citizens and therefore has to do everything to prevent an environmental disaster. The judge ruled in favour of Urgenda.

Today (30 November, 2021) on the news: this coal-fired power station (one of biggest polluters of the Netherlands, build in 2015) will be closed, maybe as soon as within the next two months. Necessary for NL to be able to live up to the Paris Agreements. There's three more coal fired power stations to go.

The New Hondsbossche Dunes [by Adriaan Geuze/West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture] is a huge project that will replace existing dikes at Hondsbossche and the Pettemer seawalls - the last weak links in the extensively and heavily reinforced Dutch coast.

Thirty-five million cubic meters of sand will be used to sculpt this vulnerable stretch of beach into a new recreational area that will attract wildlife and provide protection from the North Sea for another 50 years. Once the eight-kilometer project is completed, it will become Europe’s longest uninterrupted dunescape.
